Awww, that's a really sweet story Cordelia and not sickening at all.
I've been with my husband for fifteen years. We've been married twelve years this August 10th and i can honestly say he's my best friend. I can tell him anything. He's calm, laid back and easy going and a fantastic father to our two kids, our son is nine and our daughter is two. Our boy is autistic, and to a lot of couples, the stress of dealing with autism on a day to day basis is a death knell on their relationship. Not us. We split the responsibility of looking after him fifty-fifty. When i get stressed from dealing with him (and he can be hard work sometimes) then he takes over and vice versa. We almost lost our daughter at birth (she was 12 weeks premature and not expected to survive) he was like a rock. I leaned on him a heck of a lot in those dark early days and he was amazing. I couldn't have gotten through it without him, and today, she's so fit and well and they have such a close loving father and daughter relationship, it made it all worthwhile. He gets on great with our boy, they're like two halves of a whole. He just shrugged his shoulders the day we were told he was autistic and said "he's my boy" and we take each day as it comes.
We're physically and emotionally very different. He's really dark haired with green eyes and i'm very blonde with blue eyes. He's calm and laid back as i've already said, and i'm the opposite, but somehow our relationship works. He's got a wicked sense of humour and makes me laugh out loud with stuff he's told me. He's not into Buffy/Angel/SFX stuff at all, but will happily listen to me wibble on about them. He buys me Angel stuff without a qualm, is cool about the pictures of David Boreanaz, Rob Thomas (of Matchbox Twenty) and Hugh Jackman that i have in my little computer cubby hole and is a sweetheart to be honest. He's secure enough to know that he's number one man in my life.
We've never had a full blown row in 15 years of being together. We bicker, but make a rule of never doing that in front of the kids. We complement each other and i absolutely adore him. He says i drive him nuts with my compulsive untidiness and the fact i can be completely scatterbrained. But he says the best thing about me (apart from the obvious) is my unquestioning loyalty and trust i have in him. And God help any female who gets within two feet of him (except his mum, his sister and his daughter 😀 )
That's me and my relationship. Feel free to pass the sickbucket if you need 😉
