Relaxing the Cannabis Law in the UK?

The relaxing of cannabis from a Class B to Class C Drug in the UK has been approved, so where should I start after such an overdrawn subject in the news as of late. Well being a pro-cannabis smoker, I'd love to say the move by the government is a noble one, but due to the implications posed by Mr.Blunkett I'm still a little unsettled. For instance, why make allowance for the use of the drug, but still ban officiated cannabis café's. When I heard about this, I was hardly impressed. Look at it this way, you can smoke the drug on the street (of course only in small quantities and just get a caution), but you can't smoke the drug in officially instigated places where the police can look over the usage of the drug, effectively taking the crime off the streets and into fully licensed sites? The new policy is just muddled and this so-called reform I've just heard a debate from all the main parties is quite frankly stupid and confusing an already confused area.

People who disagree to smoking cannabis as a whole, well I'm saddened. Further more, those who say cannabis is a base level gateway for taking more fatal drugs. Yeah sure it is, but I know many decent, fine, upstanding individuals who do smoke and despise Heroin, Coke, etc. It's simple; there IS no fundamental relationship with cannabis and fatal drugs, only the people making that leap. Those people, not cannabis are the issue and if they want to find out whether taking a few grams of coke up every orifice and sharing needles with the local dealer will kill you or not, then, well let them. But to scapegoat and to have the audacity and think you have a level-headed argument in simply stamping out cannabis due to that, well pardon me, but screw you! Did the coke and heroin addicts smoke cigarettes and drink beer before doing hard drugs? Exactly, so why have the government excluded these 2 things when they kill more people than marijuana? Little propaganda monkey's milling about their million dollar houses, goddamit. You know, personally I believe the only reason marijuana is actually illegal is because the government can't tax it. People can grow their own and sell it and it pisses the government off because they can't make any money off of it. Result: until the government figures out a way to make money off of weed, it will be illegal. Either that or that just can't come to the reasoning as to why they did it in the first place. I'm guessing poor judgement based on little to no knowledge of the true facts of the drug. Just lump it all together, the dealers seem to sell it alongside all the other drugs that kill and pronounce crime"¦ oh dear. 😀

Thing is though, People who've died from such drugs (and I hate to de-motivate anyone's moral balance, really I am), well, they're dumb, stupid, more than anything the main part of the deceased who take it and know the precautions and consequences, well it's there fault, not mine. Why should they contradict my right to smoking something that's in point of fact killed far, far less people than both tobacco and alcohol combined and on the contrary helped me no end in the past few years of gruelling study and hardship? Easy, people are still stuck in a mould of pretences, the media machine, and headline news. There is no devil's advocate conspiring towards a world of terror, crime and misery due to it, just the people who are stupid enough to believe so. Anti-activist go against the problems and tests of the new law in such places like Brixton because the effects have so far gone unchanged"¦ well what do you bloody expect from a war-torn, crime-bombed part of the country. Things aren't just going to change overnight you idiots! Now, take somewhere like Amsterdam where the drug has been legal for a while; the percentage of people that use harder drugs in the country has dropped, education has improved vastly and the average age of the users of harder drugs has risen by about 5 or 6 years, meaning that less of the young people are trying the hard drugs and just sticking to weed. The gateway drug theory simply has absolutely no proof.

As for cannabis and it's ties with hardcore drugs and crime on the streets, well I believe sparking up should be left to the confinements of your house anyway; smoking and getting it on the street is a hapless cause at best, something akin to walking up and down the pier with a boom box, a halo of gold chains and being affiliated with a trade of con artists, criminals and well, butt monkeys. But I'm 18, I get my gear from hard-working people of society who grow it and have quite gracefully taught me the true nature of this world while keeping things clean, NOT drug baron's who plan to facilitate me a future of guns, jeez! Again, the government instead of blaming the environment we live in (a.k.a. something they can be blamed for), use cannabis as the scapegoat to lump all it's problems on and to lessen the tension on their lives. As for actually smoking, well it shouldn't be tarnished to simply multiply your ego, used to influence harder drugs or anything the government in point of fact claims people smoke and do in effect. It should be from experience imposed on a gathering of friends; light-hearted works best with a mutual ceremony of laughs, loves and feeling incensed, liberated"¦ a step of evolution in comparison to the everyday junctions of boredom, biscuit and the "job."

Back to my point about cannabis café's and making everything legitimate though, well why not just manufacture joints just like fags and booze with a censored age limitation. Here's how I see it should work. Due to the full legalisation of cannabis, police therefore successfully crackdown on the harder drug dealers, who of course usually sell cannabis. So then this is put in abundance and the government then rids all the pills and powders and just stores the cannabis. This in all intents purpose (no martial profit and backdoor agenda's) is then contracted to a manufacturer and then commercially sold at retailers. Boom, the government makes money, the economy makes money, the criminals and dealers are disposed of aswell as more fatal drugs and we all coerce into a civilisation of happy people, lol. But back to what's actually forseeable, surely that would keep the financial position the government content though and counter-effectively they could maybe use some of it's profits into aiding this reform of health, police and education they seem to be drivelling on about, with again, little to no action at all. Quite ironic how they said the same thing 4 years back, huh? But I mean, it all has consistency, as to why the government can't see this, well I really am dumb-founded in all honesty.

Now as for marijuana being "gateway" drug because smokers are more likely to be exposed to other drugs and therefore tempted because they're illegal. Well, that is thanks to our opinionated government anyway. But any educated and truthfully informed pot smoker is well aware of the inherent dangers and health risks associated with using hard drugs. (Again, wouldn't making it fully legal instead of fiddling around with classes be more appropriate?) I've heard all the issues, but in a way cannabis is like sex (ok, not the effects"¦ well depends on the trip), but I mean it's still a youngster in the public eye; a taboo, people don't want to make a common ground just with any radical change against pastimes. Without clearly understanding the basics though, people are led astray and subject, judge and oppose due to that. Hypocrisy and ignorance abounds in this country though - this is something you will hopefully learn as you get older in the UK.

Having habitually smoked for the last 2 years and having the inspiration to write this due to smoking for most of the day lol, you can see why I'm still mentally at a tangent. Such a close-minded and arrogant society still keeps on bearing its ugly head around ever major issue in the UK and as a member of a minority I, well were just helpless to do anything about it. Leave it to this cabinet of politicians, shadowy figures at best and the "general public," en mass to play tennis with what I can and can't do. Law, sure it's prime aim is the interest of the general public, but, *ahem* what about me and the others who have evolved, seen the light and entered a new phase in human culture. Cannabis can be such an enhancement to your life, but if you're not a toker or dislike its effect in anyway, then simple, don't take it. I as I believe anyone should respect you for who you are, not your preference. To have a bad time or to have not fully experienced it and then to act against it though"¦ well I'll leave that to you to put together a few choice words on my behalf. In conclusion, I believe adults, in a free country should be free to risk their own health if they wish, and marijuana is simply a much less harmful drug than the legal intoxicants alcohol and tobacco inhabit. The truth is simple.

Comments, opinions anyone?

People like that really get to me, sure some people do go onto harder things but that its their choice, cannabis itself does'nt lead them to it. Each individual is different (hence the term individual) so it is therefore unfair for those that smoke it and do not go onto harder things to be classed with those that do.

When I heard that they were relaxing the laws i was pleased, as i thought it would be a step towards the situation in Amsterdam, a quote from the newscaster said that 'they will tolerate smokers but not dealers'. I personally do not see the harm in cannabis, and think that alocohol is actually worse. If you stick a bunch of people in a room with alchohol you are almost guaranteed to get some disagreement/argument and perhaps even a fight. If you put people in a room and let them smoke away not much will happen. (and i've tried and tested this theory) As Oz has proven by his post, it is possible to have some joints and still be able to function properly, in his case he was able to put together a well thought out and structured post. In the case of others they can go to work or whatever.

i think the cannabis gateway theory would fall apart once selling became legal.it comes from people going to dealers who may offer them something else.one thing that annoys me about anti-drugs protesters is when the roll out the drug causes crime statistics without saying that most of them crimes are possession/dealing and not the rabid crackhead crimewaves they focus on.

and if you now get a caution when caught in possession.is that just the first time .would the police just let you rack up umpteen cautions or prosecute at the Xth digression?

I think it is incredibly demeaning that cannabis is illegal, a drug less harmful than alcohol and tobacco put together and the government tries to make the choice for us. I optimistically think that this is just the start of a bigger change, more people are learning how harmless cannabis is, especially compared to alcohol and tobacco, so the government can now change the law without outraging the masses, but only slowly, hopefully people will realise from the fact that it is being classed down that it is not particularly dangerous, and eventually it will probably become legal. Obviously a lot of people realise how ridiculous it is that cannabis is illegal while alcohol and tobacco are legal, but unfortunately until the majority of people realise that, it won't happen. I think it's sad that people who obviously don't care, or know much about the subject dictate smoker's rights, but until the public is educated, it will continue.

It was on the news a couple of days ago that it will be a 3 strikes and you're out kind of deal, so 3 cautions and then prosecution.

yeah i heard that too, personally, and this is just an opnion, i agree with the declassification of cannibis, mainly because i think it would free up a lot of police time so they could focus on harder more dangerous drugs, after all a joint never hurt anyone? my friends mum has ME and she uses cannibas to take the pain away the fact that it was illegal didn't stop her using it so i doubt it being illegal would stop many others either. i read a survey once saying that in fact, cigarettes are more life threatening than cannabis because of the nicotine content.also what about all the "free love" in the sixties? i think they were on joints all day and it never did many of those any harm! i personally reckon it should be one's own choice whether you choose to smoke cannabis or not. after all, it is YOUR life and i would like to think that we had some choice as to what we do with our lives left. i'm only expressing an opnionso don't hate me!!
