It was three years ago that Robin Williams passed away. He featured more often in my childhood years probably than some of my aunts and uncles did. I was heartbroken not only to learn of his passing, but the situation behind his passing. I guess it shocked me that a man who I admired and laughed at so much could be harbouring so much pain and suffering in his personal life. 🙁

There were so many of his movies that I loved as a child; Mrs Doubtfire, Hook, Jumanji. For me, the pivotal role was that of the Genie in Aladdin. I knew that movie off by heart (probably still do!) and he was just perfect. He always made me laugh. I always felt that when he told Aladdin just to be himself, he was telling shy, insecure, picked-on me that I should always just be myself.

So I guess I just wanted to remember the man on this thread for the joy he brought to people's lives. How do you remember Robin Williams? Which is your favourite movie/tv show he starred in?

I never watched his standup. I did watch Mork and Mindy though. I was a small kid and I don't think I'd ever seen a man as hairy as Mork was! 😀

You are asking an impossible question, Athena. He's been in too many great movies to possible pick just one. But some of them are, as you said, Hook, Jumanji, Mrs. Doubtfire. I actually find Jack very enjoyable, watched it very recently, but my favorite has to be The Birdcage. A hilarious classic, imo.
 
I remember him as a man I looked up to. No matter how he felt (we had a lot in common), he made people laugh and cry, he was talented and showed that talent to the world. I can't believe it's been that long already 🙁
 
Aladdin will always be my favorite; it is Disney at its finest and so much of it is because of Robin Williams' spectacular character. But just listening to Robin talk about anything is always hilarious. I think that's what I miss about him.
 
Loved him in One Hour Photo, Awakenings, Insomnia, Dead Poets Society and Good Will Hunting. I think I admired him more in his serious roles, probably because his RL pain would show and make for a good performance. I definitely preferred him dialed down a bit.
 
It was so sad when he died because he'd been in a lot of my childhood movies. Jumanji is probably my favourite as is his role as the Genie. I think he was a big part of most people's childhoods. My 4 year old nephew enjoys the Genie songs in Aladdin "Friend like me" and "Prince Ali". He finds the merchant scene at the beginning hilarious.

Robin Williams' work will be enjoyed by generations to come, he is forever immortalised as the Genie.
 
Everyone always remembers Robin Williams for his stand up comedy and his comedic roles, but my favorite two Robin Williams movies are "The Dead Poet's Society," and"What Dreams May Come." Anyone who ever doubted that he had any talent beyond making people should watch them. Also, "Man Of The Year," was very good without the usual comedy elements.

I preferred his drama films too
Since it is a Buffy board, he was in The Crazy Ones where he played SMG's father and she got to do the straight lines. It looked like SMG was going to be back on the small screen when it all came crumbling down. Robin Williams was one of the best comedic actors ever.
