At least half a million young men in Japan are thought to have withdrawn from society, and refuse to leave their bedrooms. They’re known as hikikomori.

Their families often don’t know what to do, but one organisation is offering “sisters for hire” to help coax these young men out of their isolation.
 
He's got a pink gaming system and little girls clothes in his room. I think he got picked on for more than just his high-pitched voice.
 
I don't think that getting hookers "sisters for hire" is going to get these guys out of their bedrooms. If anything, they'll be spending far more time in there.
 
How much are they paying? I got a few ideas to get them moving out 😉

I know plenty of people in the world like this. We have entire houses that we don't leave, not just bedrooms.

How much does it cost the parents to upkeep these adult shut ins? Surely a chick getting them to move out is worth more than that!

I read the wiki page, looks like something occuring outside of Japan too, just doesnt have a catchy name.

900US would cover the rent yeah, its almost 3am here and I read it as Aud. Still not enough value put on the service considering what it would save parents in the long run.

I am waiting to cash in on the hire a friend trend. I do lots of fun adventures alone and would drag a client along with me if the money was worth it. Leading them to a self sustaining work life is out of my skill set though.

I duno why the shock, there are thousands on the internet/tumblr like this too. All supporting each other to never work and never leave the nest. I wonder what their internet search history has in common...
 
Sounds like a bit of a joke and obviously someone has spotted a gap in the market to make some money. Doesn't attempt to address the big question though. What the hell is wrong in the country or more likely the world that so many people feel the need to drop out altogether?

Yep. Japan is just the one of the first to acknowledge this issue. Obviously more widespread there but its happening all over.

I think it's pressure and work expectations.
 
This sounds like the reaction you would get to a society where any mistakes you make are considered very serious and anything good that you do is disregarded. This happens where penalties are of a greater magnitude than rewards that come from approval.

Japan has had a flat economy since the early 1990's. Young people cannot expect their lives to be better or even as good as that of their parents. The housing in Japan is expensive and very small. Most people live in less than 900 square feet.
 
The main reason that Japan has had a flat economy since the early 1990's is the amount of disaster threats and the few actualities. Not many other country can expect so many disasters to affect as much of the country. Some such countries are those at risk between South Africa and America. Most other at risk islands and continents are at risk due to climate change.
 
"All the unhappiness of men arises from one single fact, that they cannot stay quietly in their own room", wrote Blaise Pascal once, maybe these guys are onto something.
 
But what is the real reason why do they want young men to leave their rooms?
Could it be that the young wally's wear headphones then sing along to their favourite tunes? Folk tend to sing / talk a lot louder when wearing headphones.
 
Anyone told them that North Korea has stopped firing missiles at them?


But obviously there is something culturally at work here, and I don't think this is any sort of long-term solution.
