I don't know if this has been bought up before, I haven't seen anything about it anyway. If someone wants to direct me to a thread then feel free!

Anyway I just vaguely remembered out of the blue that Angel said in Reptile Boy that he can walk in because they're not permanent residence or something along those lines. I couldn't find the exact quote on the internet but maybe I'll pull out my DVD's later on and have a look.

So does this mean a vampire could walk into someone's house if they were renting?
 
I really do not think that is the case, because a renters house, apt, w/e is still there home and they have say who comes in and out. Also I have trouble believing that Joyce just bought her house out right when she moved to sunnydale. She was prob. a renter at first (or buying to own).
 
I'd think that the owner of the house (the land-person) would have to invite them in. Or, the writers just retconned to make things easier on Angel. 😀
 
i don't think so. i'm pretty sure angel walked right into buffy's dorm room in season 4. but on angel when cordy gets her haunted apartment he has to be invited. granted not at that time b/c cordy said whenever she got a place he was totally invited. but i think that because the place was owned by the school and not the students he could walk in. same thing with the hotel on Angel. because the rooms were owned by someone else publically he could walk in and out freely.
 
I'd think the renter would have to invited them in, becuase most people who are renting class there house as there home and thus have emotional attachment and i think that would stop a vampire from just walking in. In my head anyway (i'm happy for someone to prove otherwise or the correct answer) a vampire can't come in becuase your homes like a protective sanctuary..if you get my drift... I'm probably wrong.
 
I think dorm rooms, frat houses, etc are different from apartments....
Then again, in S4 when Spike knocks on Willow and Buffy's dorm door, Willow has to invite him in. Well, maybe not HAS to, but she says, "Come in," and that's when Spike opens the door.

Soooo I don't know. ???

Seems like if vampires could get into dorm rooms, they would just make every night on campus a free-for-all, eat 'till you drop buffet.
 
Was Sunday not a student? Is that what you mean? I don't think so.. I think I should go eat.

Ahh right. Hmmm.

Maybe it has something to do with, how MUCH you own the place you're living. In a dorm, you're pretty much on public property. Yes, you have a key, and the room is technically "yours," but the repairs, the heat/AC, that's all up to someone else. And as far as I know, your room can be searched, etc, at any point. But an apartment is different. Yes, your landlord owns it, but he can't just barge in whenever he wants, etc.

(Oh, and I know Buffy would have deterred some vamps from feasting on the students...but you'd think vampires would just STOP coming to Sunnydale, with Buffy there and all, but they didn't.)
 
Honestly? I think we have classic case of what I call The Writers Getting Lazy And Forgetting About Continuity 🙂

As far as I know the way it is sopposed to be is that a vamp can not enter a residence uninvited unless a.) the tenent or owner is dead b.) the tenant is a demon or c.) the owner as abandoned the residence. This does not mean the writers actually remembered to always apply these rules.
