In Season 4's episode 'Restless', cryptic messages are a pretty big theme, e.g, Tara says, "Be back before Dawn" refering to Buffy's sister who first appears in Season 5. Althogh, there are a couple I didn't understand. First of all in Xander's dream sequence, Buffy is sitting in a sandbox and say's to him "Way ahead of you big brother" does anyone have any idea's of what this could mean? Also the big cryptic clue of the episode Tara says, "You think you know ... what's to come ... what you are. You haven't even begun." Does anyone know what this means. I thought it maybe had something to do with Buffy's death but i'm not sure. Its really bugging me!

I have a theory about the "Way Ahead Of You, Big Brother" thing.

First, she's digging in sand, possibley refering to her being dead and buried for a summer. Way ahead of you is talking about the big theme of Xander's dream, which is that the other scoobies lifes are going on ahead without him. Big Brother could mean two things, either that Buffy thinks of Xander as kind of a brother to him, or it could be a nick name for the government, meaning the Initiative.

"You think you know ... what's to come ... what you are. You haven't even begun." is refering to the First situation.... this is why... Tara said that and then Dracula said that in the season 5 opener, and he talked about how slayer powers come from the darkness... that was never followed until season 7 episode Get It Done, where we get the explanation about how the first slayer was created....

The sandbox scene foreshadows the episode Intervention where Buffy goes to see the mystic guide who uses the first slayer form and says "Death is your gift" It's the same desert, and buffy says it's no time for me yet....

And there are many more...giles says "spike is like a son to me" while spike is wearing that weird outfit, which he uses again in Tabula Rasa where giles and spike thought they were father and son

there are more things refering to the slayer from darkness stuff
When buffy wakes up inside her dream, she sees the first slayer chained and the shaman guys in Get It Done chained her in order to make her the slayer

Buffy tells Adam "we're not killers" and he says "isn't that so" which could mean either the darkness from which the slayers were created OR the kill Dawn plot

This is a good suggestion becuase Dawn talks about Big Brother in Out of My Mind and about Rileys involvement with the government.
As for the sandbox idea Billy Blood, WAY TO THINK! I never thought of that!
I was listening to commentery of Restless by Joss, and he said that Joyce in the wall, is a refernce to Joyce dying in season 5

also there is the fact that anya and xanders story is fore told to ,, they are talking about it in the front of the ice cream truck ,,,plus in addition to what lorne the host said ,, there is a reference to the thing that is after spike ,,,,, "gotta be moving forward , like a shark ,, a shark that walks on land! ",,,

The Tara buffy scene in buffy's bedroom is a continuation of the dream buffy has with faith in graduation day which tells us of dawns arrival ,,"lil sis is coming"

In 'Intervention' Buffy asks Giles if that being a Slayer is juts being a killer, and she metions it agian in The Gift and Giles 'Refuses to believe it' So I think we've both got the same idea.
