Does the world REALLY need to have magic restored, or is that just Willow having trouble adjusting to being totally normal again? About the only people who seem to miss it or see anything wrong at all are the witches, warlocks, and sorcerers who no longer have their special power. So, what's the big deal?

Yes if you seen the preview pages the lack of magic is haveing a sever impact on the world at large

I so can not wait to get this series the cover art is so dam good

I'm still unsure on the Buffyverse difference between what is just part of the universe and what is deemed "magickal." I mean, people dying and entering the spirit world, people falling asleep and entering the astral world of dreams, etc, still happens. Nature itself is magick. Everything in the universe that is mysterious and wondrous can be explained now or someday with science and seen as natural.

I think that they no longer have Muses or spirits giving inspiration and sometimes full on completed projects to humans on earth. And the humans are now having trouble coming up with things on their own. They should still have their own realm of the Immateria since they can still dream. I don't see why the rainbow would only have two colors.

I can see why magick is important but there were so many apocalypses that I think people should at least attempt to live without it.

People can be healed by doctors and on their own with scalpels and dietary changes instead of with magick. Infact, the main causes of heart disease and cancer are eating the wrong foods, not having organic products, and cigarettes. People can still fall in love. People can still feel endorphin rushes. People can do amazing things like skydive and mountain climb and surf.

I think that a lot of it is in Willow's head. She has never tried to become a person without magick. She thinks that she is nobody without it. She never dealt with her issues, even after a six month long walkabout. She looked down on Amy for not changing but she hasn't either.

Willow never really tried to find inner validation or real happiness outside of magick. She never opted for excitement in regular things. It was all about gaining more power and passing another witch level.

Its not just reaching another level its fact that she is called again and again to fight things more powerful she has to keep or take the chance of fataly loseing one day.

Willow has delt with her issues in the series she westled with her dark nature and came out a better person for it now she can move forward she still fights with her darkness and still afraid its going to bite her in the ass witch it might (Or in one prespective will (Fray) but if Dark Willow can take an ax to the back (S6 Villiens) Im sure a gut check would be small potatos for Dark Willow) She still growing she still learning

How would you feel if a part of you was just striped away something important to you...like say reading what would you do to get back that abalty? Or driveing. Willow lost something that made her who she is she been magical sence before she could drive. It IS a part of her you cant just simply take that away from her and say deal with it its not fair.
Just like you she going to do what she can to get it back

Personally, I think magick should be restored the world, HOWEVER, I do agree that Willow is basically going through a withdrawl from not having it. She's been into the magicks since her Junior year of High School, and I think that besides Buffy, its been the one thing that's always been there for her. She feels like she needs it to survive, and without it, she doesn't feel like a whole-person.

Granted, that's not true. She was a person before she got involved with Buffy and the magicks, but maybe she doesn't have favorable memories of her time before that, so, in a way, trying to restore magick is her way of avoiding becoming that person again

But the majority of hose "things more powerful than she is" are supernatural in nature, which would seem to indicate that, without magic, they are no longer as powerful as they once were, or have no power whatsoever beyond what could be handled by simple physical means, the way that Slayers and other demon fighters have been doing for centuries.

This still seems to me to be at least partially Willow trying to regain the power that she lost, not because of anything that "the world" needs as much as because without that power, Willow reverts back to exactly what she was before Buffy came to Sunnydale.

Would you want to revert back you yourself in 10th or 11th grade?

Willow needs to revert to what she was back then. I hate the drug addiction analogy but she needed to hit rock bottom so she could build herself up and mature and learn in the right way. Buffy would still be a person without slayer powers. Tara would've still been a person if she never did another spell. But Willow?

Willow didn't need to stay who she was in high school. That's what she wasn't understanding. She used magick to no longer be that person instead of just growing up and becoming whatever or whoever she wanted. Most of her growth was connected to external things that if taken away, shows how little growth she really has.

She needed that part of her stripped away in order to realize that she IS still important. She thought that the entirety of who she was is that one part.

While Willow has used her powers to help the cause, I don't think her story would've been any different had she not been asked to or needed to help. She would've still dabbled and then become unhealthily fixated on the dark arts. I think that sometimes she used "I just wanna help" as an excuse to test boundaries and go as far as she wanted with things that everyone kept warning her and advising her to stay away from or slow down with. Giles warned her. Oz warned her. Buffy warned her. Tara warned her. But she felt she had to keep getting to another level of magicks as if to test herself and prove how powerful she could be.

Personally, I don't think Willow really has a "dark nature." I don't think she is bloodthirsty or naturally malicious. Her magick abuse has always been about needing to feel powerful and wanting to have control of things and she takes things so far with it that she doesn't realize or accept that she has crossed moral lines and is causing more destruction than she is order. I'd say it's less of a darkness and more of a brattiness but since she's using dark magicks instead of normal things it leads to really dark things.

No, but I wouldn't try to change the entire world, literally, in order to avoid it.

She dint change the world magics been apart of our world sence the start Willow is only trying to restore what was there in the first place. When Buffy destoryed that seed it threw the world off blance.

No Willow is a part of magic and magic been apart of her she had this inharent ablity sence she was born she just dint relizes it till later in life.
Had she had a teacher at any age she would have unlock the magic inside of her much sooner.

Buffy may or may not have won a few battles with out Willows help (Chosen or the fight with Adam come to mind)

She went dark one time in the show and on the few occasons she did go dark in the comics she was able to help control it thanks to the lessions the coven tought her.

S8 issue#3
Dawn: Are you Dark Willow again?
Dark Willow: It will pass.

Now I know we dont have the full story yet if the Fray crossover is to bleaved magic will be restored and something does happen to Willow to make her stay in the dark that makes Buffy "kill her" unless that timelines been altered these events will still come to pass then its just a wait and see game.

Like it or not Willow loses apart of her self with out magic and I hope she gets it back I hope magic is restored and the balance returns.

Speaking only for myself, I see your arguments as more of a challenge than an attack, so don't worry about it. We're fine, just as long as you don't kick my dog or insult John Wayne or Charlton Heston. Most other things, I can pretty well cope with.

On the same note, my answers may be on occasion short or blunt, but there isn't anything personal intended.

And as for Willow wanting to restoe magic simply because it was "there in the first place," that argument could be used to justify bringing back the dinosaurs, and you saw what a mess they made of that in "Jurassic Park."

So Buffy gets to dictate how the world should be? No Buffy disrupted something fundimintal to our world and its up to Willow to set it right.

Buffy gets to decide how the world should be because that is why the Shadow Men created the Slayer. To protect the non-magick beings on earth, defeat demons and monsters, and make sure that the balance never tips to the wrong side.

I'd say that Buffy has succeeded. Activating the Potentials stopped the First Evil from tipping the scales on the side of evil. However, there were so many activated that the PTB or Universe let more demons come out of the woodwork to balance the scales. And then when the Slayers were being annihilated, demons were being praised, and a floodgate of new demons were being poured in, Buffy managed to not only beat them back but to make sure they could never rise to power again.

She did more to defeat the forces of darkness with those two decisions than any demon hunter that came before her.

I think that there would have been no Chosen apocalypse if not for Willow. The First Evil found a way to rise to power because Willow had Buffy resurrected. It caused an anomaly in the Slayer line and the FE took advantage of that damage.

I think that if Willow hadn't of taken up spells, Giles would've gone back to them. He was a good spellcaster and would've been more active with it had the need arisen. He managed to switch Amy & Catherine back in Witch when he hadn't exposed himself to magick in years.

Magick may have always been a part of Willow internally without her even knowing it, but she did not treat it naturally, sacred, or like something that comes from within. She never seemed to look within. She sought out, grabbed hold of the external.

With Tara, you can see that she is a "natural witch." You feel that divinity within her. The power does not feel foreign, borrowed, or stolen. She seems one with it and knows it is not something that you master but something that you are and always have been. She seemed to have more respect for the natural order, the flow of things, and shaped her moral code out of her spiritual beliefs.

I agree that Willow needed someone like Jenny or Tara or the English coven from the beginning. Jenny was already gone when Willow started down her magickal journey and by the time she met another in-tune-with-nature-knows-everything-is-connected witch, it was too late. Willow was set in her ways. It's easier to teach and guide someone when they are a clean slate than when their mind is filled with false facts and ingrained dogmas.

I do not think you are attacking anyone's thoughts/opinions. I like that you can even hear someone disagree about Willow and list reasons why you feel differently. Whenever I say something about Cordelia people completely ignore it, get pissed, or accuse me of being a blind Bangel shipper (despite the fact that I also ship Spuffy).

I love your thoughts on Tara its what I always thought about her
You are so right about how Willow rose in power how she used power. But she is learning now about the true essence of magic she has the ablity in her self to fix the damge she caused to her self give her time
