Retro TV Couples We Love

Airam agrees: Whipper over Ling? Interesting...

I did struggle with that one. Ling and Fish were hilarious together....but with Whipper it was love.

And Ms. Woo didn't have the wattle to keep him anyway.

Ally and Larry! OR John and Fish LOL
I think as far as this list goes they just considered any show off the air as "retro" or maybe more accurately any couple no longer opn the air which is I guess how they snuck Elle and Sylar in there, cause Elle is dead now eventhough she's only been dead for a few months, lol. If we were talking really retro I think I'd include:

Kelly & Zack:

Cory & Topanga:

Kevin & Winnie:

I was also partial to Justin & Julia from Party of Five, cause man did he love her! It still melts my heart:

YES!!! Ally and Larry, cause its my Downey and never was there a better man for Ally than Larry, not even Billy:

*tears up* you got it so right, they were the couples of my childhood
Joan the Vampire Slayer

Kevin and Winnie! Yes. God, I loved that show.
Larry was just amazing. Robert Downey Jr gave so much to that show. I was so upset that they couldn't bring him back. I could listen to him singing 'River' and 'Every Breath You Take' all day, every day! He was perfect for Ally, although I do also share a soft spot for Billy. But Larry was definitely her perfect man.

I meant to include Kelly and Zack in mine but completely forgot. I'd also bat for Jake and Tiffany (California Dreams) too!

I know, he was great for the show, but he didn't quite have his shit together back then yet sadly. And WooT for California Dreams too :)

Oh... if we're talking about British sitcom couples I have to mention Jean and Lionel Hardcastle (Judi Dench and Geoffrey Palmer) from "As Time Goes By."

And Tim and Daisy from the imaginary "Spaced" series 3...

Yeah, I'm slightly confused about the use of the word "retro". But hey, who am I to judge. About as retro as I go is the late nineties. So, that being said, if I was making a retro-ish list I'd have to include:

Richard Fish and Whipper
Pete and Jenny
Old style Donna and Josh

Oh, and since I don't want to disappoint DoI, Piper and Dan.

Just FYI "Retro" is defined by:

Retro is a term used to describe, denote or classify culturally outdated or aged trends, modes, or fashions, from the overall postmodern past, but have since that time become functionally or superficially the norm once again. The use of "retro" style iconography and imagery interjected into post-modern art, advertising, mass media, etc. has occurred from around the time of the industrial revolution to present day. At least as of the present, "retro" implies especially before the 1990s and after World War 2, while retro fashion design is nowadays increasingly inspired by the 1930s and 1940s.

So...most of these couples, who are they consitered "retro" too? Nine year olds?

I'll be eight next month and I consider these couples retro as hell.
yeah i did think lots we were saying are not retro, but since we are all different ages here, some 90s teen shows are what we remember from our old days.

I was meaning more confused in the sense that Elle and Sylar were being considered retro. And anyway, the word retro can mean different things in different contexts for different mediums. Fashion and design evolve much more slowly than, say television or video games. In the context of the latter, the word retro is commonly, and justifiably, applied to anything pre-2000. So I can understand television shows from the 1990s being considered retro.

Elle and Sylar though, that's just crazy talk.

And anyway, like I said, the nineties is as far back as I go, so for me that is retro.

Good point. I mean, when I think of The Care Bears and My Little Pony and Power Rangers, I get all nostalgic. I'm a true child of the 90s. Yet, my mother still thinks The Care Bears is a fairly new show.

And I'm referring to the ORIGINAL Care Bears, FYI 😉 The show that ran from 1985 to 1988, so I guess I was watching the re-runs. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:CBMI_poster.jpg I think it's funny that the main conflict in the show was, What would happen in the world stopped caring? LOL. Big question, I tell you.
