So I am so loving this show! I totally cried when Carla was sitting in the dark talking to her dad. Alexa was great, and the guy playing Will is totally hot. And man when that truck hit them it was like it was coming right at you!

Only had three problems with it:

1) They don't dress/look like it's the 80s at all. Which is in some ways good because it was such a crap time lol.

2) When Will answers the phone and the lawyer says, "This is your lawyer." I think he would have known his lawyer's name.

3) When Carla and Samantha are in the cab at the end, Carla asks for "Kennedy airport" - anyone in New York would call it "JFK" to a cabbie.

I'd also like to look into whether there really was dwi legislation then, because I remember when it became a big thing and it was after 1986.

Anyone else watch?
 
I watched and I'm hooked, if only to find out who got planted.

Having been roughly the age they were in the 80's (I graduated a year later) I dug a lot of the music and pop references they had in there.

In terms of the clothing, sometimes it hit (Craig's polo shirt, Jenna's "Madonna" outfit) and other times it didn't, but didn't distract from the story.

The only problem I had is that it had the oldest cliche in the book in the fact that Aaron has the hots for Jenna, not noticing that Carla has the hots for him and is pretty smoking (she calls herself flat-chested...NOT!).

I will be watching this next week for certain.
 
Well maybe it's just my distorted memory, but I thought the clothes were trying to be 80s but they didn't really. I mean, yes he had a polo shirt and yes he did the Don Johnson blazer thing, and yes she dressed like Madonna. But she sort of dressed like someone today trying to do Madonna's look from then. I don't know lol
 
I liked it, didn't love it, but I've gotta feeling it's going to hook me, and by the end of the season, I'll be totally wired.

Speaking of appearances, I was impressed by what they did with Alexa. You could hardly tell she's the same actress who played Gwen on Angel, and they made her look so young.

Aww man, Gwen? I gotta watch this now! Are they gonna re-air the pilot sometime I wonder?
 
They will probably reair it by next month. But ya it was ok, nothing spectacular yet. The writers are going to have a hard time keeping this show on air for more than like 2 seasons though. I wished they wouldve just jumped a year or two every season instead of doing all of this in one season
 
Getting back to the clothes thing...

Watching this made me look through some books I have on the era known as the '80's and it made me think only one thing:

Wearing those clothes...what the hell were we thinking?
 
Wow, when I first read this thread I must have been tired or not paying attention but luckily I read it again and: Alexa!? Oh, I have to watch this now.. somehow.. Couldn't love her more as Gwen Raiden, and I'm sure I'll like her just as much even if this is something completely different...
 
Yup i'm hooked already. I did get the feeling that they were trying to hard to make you believe it was the 80's, with the Ah-ha music video and the clothes. Fashion is one of those things that comes and goes in a loop and even the past few years has seen some of the 80's stuff come back...which did make me cringe...such a bad era for fashion.

As for the idea itself I like it, its good to see a pilot that catches you from the start.
 
I really liked it and WHAT a cliffhanger for next week. Will probably watch it again, just to see what the deal is with the gun.

I thought some of the clothes were a little 'off.' The one guy had on a baseball jersey, but it was green with brown sleeves. We always wore them white with colored sleeves. I had several, matter of fact......don't tell anyone, ok?

OMG, the Ah-ha video! That brought back memories, LOLLLL!
 
hey, does anyone know when this is gonna air in the UK? from what you guys have been saying, it sounds like a pretty ok show, so i'd like to check it out!
 
Darn it! This was one show that I wanted to watch this season, and I totally forgot about it. I even missed the re-air of the pilot.

I'll have to try and catch it again. Can someone tell me what night it is on?
 
I just watched this episode and I really liked it. In a way it felt more like a movie than a TV show.. I liked the actors and characters, and Alexa did a great job (I thought she looked almost exactly like she did when she was Gwen though, but I liked her even more here)..
Oh and they played my current favorite song, Time After Time 😀 (I wasn't surprised since that's probably a must have in a 80s thing like this but still, mhm..)

1) Someone else said that it seemed like people from 2005 trying to dress like it's 1986. I strongly agree.

2) I didn't notice or was bother by this.

3) This takes place in upstate New York. I'm from upstate New York. I would say "Kennedy Airport".

And I love this show. People say it's "badly written" or whatever but I really am into this show.
 
I'm normally bored to tears with soaps, but i like the novelty of the format here. I wonder if they'll slowly work their way through alternative, grunge, 90s Brit-pop...Britney. I guess some folks were probably still wearing pink izods with the upturned collar in '86, but...hmm. Did anyone ever really wear the Don Johnson getup?

Now, the giant phenomenon I remember in '87 was U2, Joshua Tree. And R.E.M, Document starting to break open the floodgates a little bit and sweep out slick synthesizer music, big hair 80s.

If the mystery and characters become as fun as picking apart the "period piece" aspect, this'll get good.

Really? That's good to know, cause I have never heard anyone refer to JFK as Kennedy. 🙂

People did wear the Don Johnson getup. Unfortuneately lol 😀

I love pop culture archaeology! And for some bizarre reason, I like 80s pop for sound tracks. I thought all the 80s bands worked well for "Donnie Darko" too. Must be the steady diet of John Hughes films growing up...

OH yeah....that was HUGE, I remember. You had two looks back then, you could go for "Tubbs'" look, or the character DJ played, who's name I can't remember.....LOL! Also, the pink Izods with the collars turned up, another huge fad.....and taken the next step further, TWO Izods in contrasting colors layered over each other, with both collars turned up and parachute pants. Bizzare. Yes, I was there and I live to tell. :nopity:
