This ep was ok, not the best though

i found the beanie Buffy wore in the beginning very annoying
and when her and Angel were doing yoga, i thought that was a little random do they ever do yoga again or was it just that one time thing?


on another note:
Giles said Angel would come back as an animal(which he did) but he would be almost a lost cause, if he were a lost cause how was he so humanlike so fast

I think the point of Angel being 'humanized' so quickly was to highlight his attachment to Buffy. Almost from the start he knew it was her (not the very start but towards the end of Beauty and the Beast episode).

I love the confrontations between Xander and Buffy, although most of the times I feel he's being too hard but considering he's the only 'normal non powered' human guy around Buffy he is the one least scared of voicing his opinions.

It wasn't yoga - it was taichi.. Well, It made me wonder too - like why taichi, why only once in entire season?

I just don't know why Angel has to do taichi at all - well, maybe just to get together and calm down. For it requires and presumes correct breathing technique ( Vamps don't breathe - their existence is supernatural. Remember how Angel wasn't affected by Gas in Invisible Girl?) Also, taichi is good for general health - and health isn't the subject with vampires too. For Buffy it was good thing to do, but as I'm practicing/studying taichi for third year already I know how diffucult it to do, and Buffy seemed never studied taichi before - as for we never saw. (I know she's supernatural and stuff)... She's not even using its principles in her fights with Evil...


It's just point of curiousity for me.

Felt pity for Scott - he seemed nice guy.
 
I think the whole point of the tai chi was 1) angel had just come back from a life changing ordeal. I think it was a way for him to focus on something else, to stay relaxed, calm, to keep it together.

2)Buffy joined in because, well, why not? I'm sure she wanted to still be close to him and it was a very sensual scene. And it doesn't hurt a slayer to learn more techniques. And just because we never saw it again doesn't mean she didn't continue with such training.

I think him being more human again was to prove how strong he was. Giles says the following in Beauty & the Beasts: "It would take someone of extraordinary... will and character to survive that and, uh, retain any semblance of self. "

That says volumes about Angel, since he was able to do so.

Yup, we're just have to accept that... Well, besides me being picky, it's a scene enough pleasurable to watch.
Stil, it's a bit unusual, you don't see vampires doing taichi quite often (in other 'verses).

I hope you get my point...
 
tai chi isn't just a physical exercise, it is also a meditation technique.The precise movements and carefully controlled breathing create a calming effect on the body by allowing the conscious and subconscious parts if the mind either focus to pin point precision or relax almost completely. I think the idea of Angel doing that particular form was to illustrate his efforts in attempting to separate and focus his consciousness while allowing his body to release its inner tension through the controlled movements. By doing the form with him, Buffy is joining her inner strength, or "chi," with his, allowing him assistance in regaining control and re adapt to his surroundings.

If Buffy had had someone to lead her through the tai chi forms when she returned in Season 6 it might have helped her to reattain her own focus sooner.

I believe that there was a scene in Angel's own series where he and Cordelia were doing something similar when he was supposedly training her to fight.

Yeah, it also powerful fighting technique.Though, Angel, himself, just doesn't breathe, and he's superior to human being. So, he's not really have to do it. In general... Well, as I say it's just curious scene for me. Un-expected.

Also, it's just won't help doing it without trainer and at once (in Buffy's case) - the incorrect performing may do harm. Let's assume (and hope) she was trained beyond "stage". off-frame.

Yup, in season 6 it would have greatly helped her.

It does work. Best cure for depression. Tested...


Lol the whole Angel and Buffy doing taichi - is as romantic as Morticia Addams speaking French to Gomez.
 
Angel is shown on quite a few occasions doing Taichi isn't he? plus he went to a tibetan monastry after Buffy died to try and come to terms with her death.

Yea.. the monastery which happens to have evil monks or something? Ad he kills them 😛 I think Vegas was a better idea 😉

Angel trained Cordy too.. he seemed to train the women he fell for..
 
I personally loved this episode, so note that I am TERRIBLY biased. 😉

First on the yoga/tai chi note, I always just assumed that Angel had learned it some time in his 250-something years of existence. It was made evident that at this point in the season he was still really weak and needed to somehow gain strength, but he would have been in no position to start training with Buffy again. Because of this, Tai Chi would have been a good alternative for him, it works his muscles while maintaining balance and concentration-- two things that he would be seriously lacking after a summer trip like he had.

Also, this isn't the first time he's seen doing this. Buffy catches him doing the same thing in "Band Candy", and says that she "didn't know he could do it" (perhaps showing interest that encouranged Angel to teach her how to do it, later on-- which Joss decided to show us!). Angel also says here that he is "getting stronger", again reinforcing the idea that this whole thing is a way for him to get back on his feet again. Presumably he did this quite often off-camera, and like many things we were only shown it on a few occations.


And I have to agree with Jules about the humanity thing. Angel recognized Buffy before anything else, and I think it was really just to show how strong an attatchment he had to Buffy (and that above all else in his world, she was the one grounding force he had-- the last tie to humanity that he could hold onto). After all, she had already drastically changed his life once before (and done so without knowing he existed), imagine after all they had been through what kind of an effect she could have on him.


Just some random thoughts, again I'm definitely biased, but that's how I always looked at the episode. I thought it was a great way for them to bring Angel "out there" and really did have some great one-liners. Poor Giles though, he's always the one to get clunked over the head with something-or-other!
 
I think this was actually the first episode I ever watched of Buffy last summer. I had no clue what was going on but I liked the episode. The whole taichi thing made me totally want to learn how to do it. That scene was really...sensual. I like the scene in Angel where he trains Cordy, too. That was pretty cool.
 
most of Zander's anger was from jealousy, but he made some valid points. Buffy was playing with fire, being that close to Angel again.

who's to say that Angelus won't return and kill more innocents?


Plus the Scoobies and Giles were hurt that she lied to them.

Especially Giles, that scene in his office was so sad.


Emily PISS Pott was annoying, her duplicity was painfully obvious.

I think Faith wants to more IN on Buffy/Scoobies meetings and activities. Not just the slaying aspect.

She appeared to be hurt about them metting w/o her.

any thoughts?
