This is it. One more day. I can wait no longer.

The trailers have been seen, and the early critic reviews have been read (favorable).
I've even read the actual script, and it is nothing short of awesome (yes, the actual script, not a phony. Don't ask me how I got it 😛).

I honestly believe theres no way this movie is going to fail at any single point. Lucas understands his shortcomings with some of the things in the previous two chapters. He realizes just as much as we do how important it is that this movie delivers.

This is the end. It is the Revenge Of The Sith, quite literally. The end of a vicious war that has already claimed many, people turning on eachother, more personal violence and betrayal, final confrontations, fights to the death, a coup, and the systematic destruction of the only peace keepers left in the galaxy.
Its an all-out purging of the ways of old and the start of something truly evil.

And perhaps the icing on the cake....the fall of a hero and the unveiling of the true enemy to which all are powerless to stop.

If that doesn't spell automatic fan approval when we've all seen it, then our damn standards are too high and we're being too critical and very unreasonable and would be bitching just to bitch.

Ian McDiarmid is really going to put on an awesome performance, once again, and also in a physical way which is something we've never seen before. I can't wait for his saber duels and to finally see the Lord of the Sith unleash his full fury.

"Are you threatening me, Master Jedi?!" Heh...just that scene alone gives me the chills. Lol.

Ian will deserve an award for this, but its doubtful he'll personally get one since it would probably go to Hayden or Ewan. I'm sure all the major characters will put up perhaps oscar worthy performances. I think the Palpatine character and Yoda character especially deserve mention.

I remember when I watched the commentary tracks for ESB and ROTJ dvds. Lucas said, that at the time, Frank Oz was considered for an award but never nominated because puppeteering wasn't considered acting at the time, which Lucas felt was outrageous. I agree. Oz brought Yoda to life as did the work of his staff and team. Theres more to acting than a physical presence. Ah well, we know better and can give all these wonderful characters our own kudos not too long from now.

Folks, theres no need to hope or have faith this movie will deliver. I know it will. This one is going to blow the other two away. Thats not an opinion, that's a fact.

I just hope I get a good seat.

I understand how you feel, my son is foaming at the mouth to see it. They are showing it here tonight at midnight, but alas he will have to wait till Friday before he can go. Hope that you get a good seat and enjoy it, looks to be an awesome movie ( I am not a big Star Wars fan, and I want to see it).
 
I have one issue with this, and its nothing to do with the film itself. I hate crowded cinema's, and with a film like this every seat is taken. I managed to avoid it with Return of The King by skipping class the morning it opened and going to the first showing.

But a movie like this has to be seen on the big screen, and the kid in me wants to go straight away to see it. But chances are I will probably leave it until its been out a while, weekends are a no go because I refuse to sit in a screen full of kids.

Flashbacks to when I used to work there and all I did was throw teenagers out for causing trouble, totally ruined my cinematic experience as now when people talk I forget I don't work there and still threaten to kick them out.

So many times i've went to book my ticket for this, but changed my mind at the last minute. I opted for going on my own because I went with a friend once to Harry Potter and TTT and she talked all the way through it. Of course I was not amused, lets just say the kids in the screen heard some choice swear words that day.
 
Oh oh oh oh oh!!! Master, you said what I feel!!! 11:30 tonight, in line at Short Pump Cinema, that'll be me, bouncing up and down on my b/f's arm. I cannot wait ANY more!!! I usually try to avoid the crowded theaters like Faith, but for Revenge of the Sith (the title makes me giggle btw, remember the 'fake' title for Jedi?) I'll do it! I just hope that I'm not disappointed, the way I was the last time I broke my 'no opening days' rule: The Matrix: Revolutions. UGh. But I don't think I will be!! And I can't belive you got a script. I wouldn't want one. Anyway, I can't wait to see what Natalie Portman is going to do. The character intrigues me, and her acting has been getting steadily better for years (I love Closer) so this should be her best to date...pregnant, betrayed, alone..I love it!! Oooh, I'm sooo stoked! Gonna go watch A New Hope again! Bye!
 
I was going to go this afternoon, I figured it would be less crowded. But ended up giving it a miss due to a migrane, it would make it no fun. So next week it is.
 
Loved 4 5 and 6 (despite the Ewoks), hated 1 and 2. So am not too fussed about seeing this immediately. Poor old George, he should have allowed someone to quality control his dialoque before making the prequels. As Harrison Ford once said to him, you can write this s***, but you sure as hell can't say it. 🙂
 
I'll be heading out to watch it on Monday. Couldn't chance seeing it on opening day. I no longer have the patience to stand on those ticket holders lines that take several years to start moving.

just saw it....and loved it....won't spoil it for yall...except that i'll say that its a good movie...
 
Saw this baby yesterday (despite my @*#%$ seperated ligament in my shoulder: ow, it hurts to type) and..ahem. You know, it was good. What am I saying??!?! I LOVED IT!! Got shivers when Darth Vader breathed. Fabulous. Gonna stop now, cause first off I don't want to ruin anything, secondly it hurts like a bitca to move my shoulder this much. I didn't know typing required so much of a shoulder.
 
As customary with a movie of this caliber, I can affirm that my father and boyfriend were also literally foaming at the mouth to see it. I shot down the idea of seeing it at midnight, because I'm normally asleep by ten! The poor saps had to wait until Friday night to see it.

I liked it. It was an entertaining two and half hours! There's a lot of violence in it though, and was surprised by it. I wasn't expecting that. But it was good.
 
This review contains some very minor spoilers, but I'll not be commenting on actual plot reveals.




Well, it's now 12:00 AM and I've had a bit to think about on the ride home from my viewing today of "Star Wars: ROTS". Where to begin....where to begin? Well, first off....

....this installment ranks right up there with "The Empire Strikes Back" ("Empire" being the best out of all of them).

So, what made this one so good after the first two prequels left a bittersweet taste in the mouths of Star Wars fans? (Although I personally didn't hate the previous two films).

First, you slowly come to realize that for all of their faults, the first two were absolutely neccesary to set up the political atmosphere, the characters and the overall story so that ROTS could flow freely. This film takes off with a bang from the moment after the opening crawl fades into the distance and doesn't let up until the final fade.
The opening space battle above Coruscant was the best since the mega-battle in "Return of the Jedi".
Huge capital ships, more animated droid fighters and an actual eye to the detail of how huge military ships actually duke it out.
It made for a highly entertaining opening sequence that lets you know you're in for a nice ride. The ensuing intrusion of Obi-Wan and Anakin aboard a Trade Federation ship went above and beyond the opening fight scenes in "The Phantom Menace".
If the latter finally showed us what Jedi in their prime were capable of, then this sequence finally showed us what the really GOOD Jedi could do when diplomacy failed and they just had to simply kick some.

It's hard to write a good review while not giving anything big away, so I'll just say a few things about the stuff that stood out for me.

The absolute best job of acting in this film goes to Ian McDiarmid, hands-down.
His portrayal of Palpatine/Sidious took the evil of "Return Of The Jedi's" version of the Emperor and removed all the happy parts. Yes, this Emperor is kicked up a notch.
And yes, he gets to use his lightsaber, and yes...he's the Dark Lord of the Sith for a reason. The real power he wields, however, is his talent for manipulation. We all knew how he politically manipulated the Republic into becoming the Empire, but it's his level of personal manipulation that is astounding. As Palpatine draws Anakin deeper and deeper into darkness, we learn more about the nature of the Force here than the other films combined. We knew that Palpatine seduced Anakin, but it was how that I didn't see coming.

So many things were coming together at the same time, and it happens fast...but is explained simply enough so that you don't get lost.

Natalie Portman is far less involved from a dialog/action sense. She is here just to be tragic, but she does it well. You may not think much of her acting in these Star Wars films, but I guarantee even you will feel sad when Padme dies. Oh, and speaking of tragic....

When they say don't bring the little kids to this one, they absolutely mean it. I don't want to give anything away, but there are a few moments and scenes when the shyte starts to hit the fan that took me a back a little. The good thing about this, however, is that we finally fully understand how tragic a character Darth Vader truly was.

When Anakin finally does succumb to the Dark Side, it happens kinda fast. I found this a little bit off, but in reality, it's only a movie and from the previous two we know how impassioned Anakin can be. However, the thing that really gets you is the fact that he went down not out of pure anger, jealousy and hatred as we'd all assumed....but out of love and loyalty, however misplaced. This is another testament to the manipulative power of Emperor Palpatine.

Most of the things we wanted answered are explained, which is good. There are a few points that might slip by the less-than-hardcore fans, such as how Palpatine got the Clone troops to turn on the Jedi. You have to remember a few things from Attack of the Clones for that one, especially the mystery of Master Sypho-Dias. (sp?)

But, we find a lot of stuff out in a way that very neatly ties this film into "SW: A New Hope"....such as what Obi-Wan Kenobi did with his time on Tatooine waiting for Luke to grow up....why C-3PO didn't make the Anakin/Vader connection....and how Anakin was concieved in the first place. And of course, the reason for Darth Vader's big black suit.

Which leads us to the defining moments of "Revenge of the Sith"...the fated battle between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader. (Oops, mighta let something slip there...sorry...heh...)
On the planet Mustafar, the two go at it like nothing seen in a Star Wars film before. It's more than a lightsaber fight, though, it's a battle of wills...and Ewan MacGregor gives a tremendous portrayal of the betrayed mentor. Throughout this film, we see Obi-Wan not as the stoic monk-like Jedi of the previous films, but a real person, with tremendous power and a strong sense of brotherhood. His strong bond with Anakin in the first part of the film made the final fight even more intense.

The fight itself was artful, but a bit too fast in a few spots....and maybe even a little too short in duration, but that's just me being nitpicky. Lol.
Of course, you could argue that these were two desperate Jedi at the height of their power locked in an emotional and physical war.
We also see from Palpatine and Yoda just how much power a true Master of the Force can muster. If you thought Yoda rocked in Attack of the Clones, wait to you see the lil' green guy here.

Well, not much more I can get into without giving too much away, so I'll just say this....

This was a fitting end to a mythology that's been a part of my life for 28 years. A long story, no doubt, but one that has struck a chord with millions of people across our myriad societies. It was rather bittersweet on the ride home, the lingering exhilaration from a very entertaining film mixing with the knowledge that it's all over.

But it couldn't have ended better.

Kudos, Mr. Lucas...you hit the nail on the head with this one.

Oh My God i watched this last night and i thought it was great, in my opinion the best of all the star wars films, even when the film finished i sat there and watched all the credits i just didnt want it to end, but it i agree it could have ended better but i reckon if you watch a new hope right after you wouldn't be that disappointed
 
Geez! I wanna see this movie so bad, but every body tells me I wouldn't get it or I wouldn't like it cause I've never before watched a star wars episode or movie... But...Aren't the movies called episodes? Well... I'm confused... But I wanna see it! There's so much hype about it that it makes one curious!
 
I've been indulging in a little, personal boycott of movie-going, because there's so much that's irritating about the modern movie theatre experience, but I broke my boycott for this one.

I can't add to anything OM said. Great review. I love a review where the critic saw the same movie I did. Although I actually liked Phantom Menace, and Quai-Gon (is that how you spell his name?) is my favourite Star Wars character.

Angel-Babez101, you impress me. I didn't think it was possible to be alive in the last 10 to 20 years, and not see at least one of these movies. 🙂

Oh, and this was my favourite episode of the series too.
 
I dunno, maybe I'm too cynical and critical but to me it was just "alright". The opening scene does give you a look nito the rest of the film, big flashy sequences. Nothing wrong with showing off technology but I dunno, just seemed to be watching a laser show rather than a film (speaking of, the performance at the opera house looked quite funky).

Similarly, the last 15 minutes seemed like a rushed attempt to tie up all the films. I know there were conections throughout but the last 15 minutes were just connection connection connection.
 
I have to second OM3 on his entire review. This was maybe A LITTLE under Empire, but it was pretty damn awesome in it's own right. One nitpick as I told OM3 earlier and will now share with the rest of you...

The
NO!!!! at the end by Darth Vader
was cheeserific. It was the only part of the movie I didn't really like. Although, when I told OM3 this, I received a long scolding about how this needed to be done and why 🙂p 😉 ) so, perhaps I shouldn't say anything! LOL
 
My friend who didn't like Star Wars and only went to see it cause her boyfriend made her kept mocking the film for that point, it was cheesy. Thing is, yesterday I rewatched the Nip/Tuck finale and Famke did a better job at doing the "Nooo!" thing than Hayden.

Hayden didn't actually do the "NO..." That would be James Earl Jones who gets credit for that disaster...
, wouldn't it?
