hi,

i finished buffy a couple of weeks ago (started fall10), and now i want to rewatch the show, because, yeah, its a great show 😀

till now i watched around 10 episodes with the highest rating on tv.com, but i think there are better ways!?

how are you guys doing it? watching reruns on tv doesnt work for me, i live in germany and want to watch the real show, no dubbed crap.

i own all seasons on dvd (ofcourse) but because i hate to play dj, and because my netbook doesnt even have a dvd drive, i ripped all the dvds and store the iso files on my NAS (Network Attached Storage).

the whole show is "just" 270GB btw😀
if you leave the iso file untouched (no additional compression, include the extras and german/english/commentary audiotrack) every disc image is around 6-8GB, for just 4 episodes...

i know thats a whole lot of space, but hdds are cheap, you can buy a 2TB drive for 70€ (prpbly around 100bucks in us).
the hughe advantage is that i can watch buffy everywere, my livingroom tv is hooked up to a HTPC (home theater pc), and i have a WDTV live in my bedroom which is capeable ov playing iso files too, and i can copy an iso file on my netbook if i want to get my buffy fix when i drive home to my parents via train for example.

so on the technical side everything is 5 by 5 for me, and i think this option could be interesting for you guys too, so if sbdy got a question regarding how to rip a dvd-> pm me.

but the big question is how to choos what to watch?

do you prefere to watch your favorit episodes over and over again (i watched OMWF like 20 times 😀)? do you choose randomly which episode to watch, or would you recommend to just start from the beginning and follow the storyline again.

i tend to just start over again, but then i would have to watch the "not so good" episodes too. is there maybe a list of which epiodes are just filler and dont contribute to the story?

and additional i would like to know if you read some recaps or user impressions after watchichg an episode. i read the wikipedia articel to every episode after i watched it for the first time (but not the continuity section, cus of spoiler). but it was nice for me to read about the popculture references, as im not a native speaker and there were some references i didnt understand.

i found out about the sunnydale podcast, would you recomend to listen to the recap of this guy? or are there some other recaps i shoud take a look at (besides the episode discussions here)?

thanks for your time and im looking forward to your opinion,

greetings Fabian

PS: i hope is use the section the right way asking all these questions about your opinions, if not, please move my thread to a more suitable section. its a bit peculiar that there are only 2 threads in this topic, because there are prply much more "re-watchers" (lol) out there😀

Well I like to do season re-watches or full re-watches. I do seasons more than full re-watches... But when I watch individual episodes... I'll do something I really feel in the mood for. Like I think I'm going to watch Band Candy later tonight because I want to laugh super hard and Band Candy never fails to make me do that. So I guess deciding which episode to watch if you don't want to do a season, storyline, or full re-watch would be easiest by deciding what you feel in the mood to watch.

I have about 1,000 scenes on my computer and watch individual scenes that I want to see again. I've watched some scenes 50 or 60 times.

I usually just do a dvd re-watch and that is it. For some reason I can't watch individual episodes I have tried it once and it doesn't work well with me it actually drives me nuts.

I don't mind catching the odd episode on TV, but if I was going to do a rewatch I'd have to do it from beginning to end. At the very most I'd be able to watch an isolated season, or a really stand-alone-ish episode like OMWF. I guess I'm just weird like that!

I'm currently re-watching the series. I'm not sure if I'm going to do the cross-overs, though. I think i might just watch Buffy only this time around.

If you're interested, I'm posting discussion questions/thoughts over on my LJ as I go along. The link is in my sig.

I'm currently re-watching Buffy. Started from the first episode because I'm a bit rusty on my Buffy knowledge. Hadn't watched Buffy since it ended. And I only watched the entire series once. This will be my second time around.

I much prefer watching from the beginning. I caught so much stuff that I didn't catch before in all the episodes. It's like watching it with your eyes completely open. Each time, your eyes open a lot more, taking in every detail of the series. I like being excited when I catch something. =D

When I did my most recent rewatch, I watched each episode then read that episode's entry at Wikipedia, Buffyguide.com and/or TV.com to get background info, trivia etc. Then I posted on each episode discussion thread here on BB. When I got to season 4 I started my Angel watch & alternated episodes, watching them as they originally aired, to get the full effect of the crossovers. I didn't think it was that important in the last 2 seasons, so then I would alternate arcs (that way I could catch Faith's arc on ATS s4 before she appears in BTVS s7 for example).

I'm an anal nerd, I know. I accept that about myself. 🙂

I'm in the middle of a re-watch right now but I am so slow in my rewatches that I've been stuck on "Dead Man's Party" for like a month. But I'm a completionist, so I don't like to skip ahead and miss anything. 😀 Watching the whole series from beginning to end does have its merits though. Like others have said, you pick up on things you may have missed in the past. I also like to savor the really emotional or powerful episodes (like Becoming, The Body, The Gift, etc.), so I don't like to watch those too often or out of context.

Oh and I'd really recommend the Hellmouth Podcast. The host is really thorough and his insights are always very interesting. He's made me reevaluate my thinking on a few episodes before, lol.

I start from the beginning. I allow myself one episode skip, and one only, because I've seen the show so many times that I'm just done with that episode. (Living Conditions, for those who want to know. I hate Kathy.) I have all the DVDs, so I just watch them. I want to get a program to rip them all though.

In between full series rewatches, I rewatch seasons too.

thanks for your opinions, ill do it the right way 😀

it might take a while cus i dont have the time to watch more than a few episodes a week, i hope i dont forget too much half the way through. when im finished i can prply start over again as i wont remeber much anyway LOL.

edit:
