Rewatching Doublemeat Palace and Older and Far Away

Doublemeat Palace:

- I forgot how cute James M is. He's far more goodlooking with yellow hair than brown.

- Willow and Halfrek both made attempts to scare Xander and Anya off the wedding. Willow pointedly telling Xander that he'll listen to Anya's theories about money for the rest of his life while Halfrek telling Anya that Xander tends to correct her "not-so-human" behavior constantly.

- I liked the Scoobies' approach to support Buffy on her first day at her job better than Spike's "You're better than this." Buffy needs money and she needs to suck it up and work in whatever place available. Good thing Doublemeat Palace let her in, because it seems like a long time between this episode and Flooded and Buffy was just accepted in a job. Hold on to it as much as you can, then. The last thing Buffy needs right now is someone telling her that she has more potential than this and she has to quit because she's not happy. That's life, it's not about being happy, it's about sucking it up and surviving in an adult world. People start small and then end up big, just look at Xander.

- Why the hell would Dawn make Amy come inside and meet Willow after all what had happened?

- Amy is probably paying back Willow for not returning her back to normal sooner. Amy, dear, be grateful that Willow at least took care of you these couple of years. It's not her fault you turned yourself into a rat.

Older and Far Away:

- Doesn't Dawn have friends her age? I tried feeling bad for her in this episode but why are you down on Buffy's friends? They're "Buffy's" friends, not "Dawn's" friends. 15 year old girls should hang out with 15 year old girls. I know Dawn considers them family, and they surely are, but they have more important adult things to do that baby-sit 15 year old girls.

- For all the talk I hear about Xander's ill treatment of Anya he certainly comes out like the 'perfect boyfriend' in this episode. This episode shows clearly how much Xander loves Anya, he even sided with her against Willow.

- Anya seems stronger than both Buffy and Spike in this episode, those punches she gave that demon.

- Spike crashed the party uninvited and brought a guest with him. What I find interesting is that none of the other cast seemed to mind, not even Xander. In fact, Xander was playing cards with Spike, Clem and Tara. Hmmm.

- Fans often wondered why no one commented on Spike's bruises. I think it's easy to assume that he got them from a demon fight or something. It'll probably make sense if Dawn asked Spike about it, but I guess she was too busy being happy that she's surrounded by people.

- Tara joking with Spike about his cramp seemed to be on Buffy's behalf than on a newfound friendship between them. But it's not hard to imagine these two becoming friends in the future.

About Tara and Spike's little 'cramp' talk - I thought that was lovely. You could consider them Scoobies but they're definately peripheral members. It was nice to see them have a little bond 🙂
 
Did anybody notice Spike's reflection in Older and Far Away? When Buffy and Spike come out of the living room and into the hall as Spike walks past the mirror you see part of his jacket.
 
i loved buffy getting all uncomfortable for willow and tara and shouting "Coming!" to no-one to get away, plus willow and tara were SUPER cute as they fumbled over trying to compliment one another (also loving tara getting a drink right after their conversation, "yes please!")
 
omg yes willow and tara were so cute in older and far away and it was brill when tara stood up for willow when she said she wouldn't use magic =D

Spike got his bruises from Buffy after she beat the crap out of him in "Dead Things".

I really like the newfound bond that Buffy & Tara have in that. I'm sure it's mostly to come down on her side in the Spike/Buffy thing, but it's still cute and well, obviously hilarious. XD "How's that cramp, Spike?"

As for DoubleMeat Palace. I don't know why, but I like this episode, despite how completely ridiculous it is. Though, if I was Buffy, I think I would have given working at the Magic Box another go before fast food.
 
i could never understand why she didnt work at the magic box, i mean she doesn't really have to work much, and she'd always be there with her friends but getting paid like Anya was.
 
i can understand her being put off the magic box by the trio messing with her day but aftr realising that it was them she should ahve just given it another go
oh well maybe she wanted free food so she didnt ahve to cook tea or anything. hehe.
 
who wants free fast food tho? lol... if i had the choice id rather hang around with anya all day and do the money dance of capitalist superiority
 
Working in fast food is definately not worth the free food, you end up feeling really ill. Oh and putting on weight isn't great either :lmao:

I would have loved to work in the magic shop with Giles and Anya!🙂

I've always thought there could be real friendship between them. It's because Tara wasn't the type of person who judged people before she knew them better. She also noticed things that others didn't ( for example in "Real me" when Willow says that they could have some Scooby thing like ring so Tara doesn't feel an outsider and Tara replies that Dawn would need something like this)
I think that if she'd hung out with Spike more she'd definitely see that he's not only bad boy kind of guy but he's also sensitive and caring.

It so bugs me that Tara was killed off there is so much that could happen with that character!
 
omg tara's death i still cry about that one to this day. Joss put her on the episode credits for her last episode even though i think she should ahve been on more credits than that.
But tara was deffinately an amazing character =D
 
Hmm, i think problem with Magic Box is working under Anya -- do you really think Buffy could handle that 5 days a week?

About the Dawn wish episode -- i think the demon was paying more attention to most dangerous duo, slayer and vampire, letting his guard down to Anya. Used to common people frozen in terror or fleeing i bet. Kinda ironic considering that is how Giles broke Anya power center.

In Anya vs Tara it is hard to say who was more right as they both had a point. You should not force someone to make something against their will that is dangerous especially, but on another hand not doing anything to leave house while a killer demon in it with someone possibly dying is special case. Interesting question perhaps is that why Tara did not comfort Anya after wedding failure.

Tara was trying to help Buffy to distant from Spike, don't think he was trying to improve relations with him. Especially given what happened earlier between Buffy and Tara.

Dawn about not having friends of her own age is very good point, but i think problem was she wanted the demon fighting club known as scoobies over school ones. She was good friends with Janice (spelling?) at least, not a single other friend mentioned altough.

As for Buffy being able to be anything, it's not that easy. She tried going back to school, work in construction, work in the Magic Box, not because she's qualified, but because of her friends' help. In Flooded, she tried to apply at a job, don't remember what it was, but she was not accepted. Buffy had stated in Doublemeat Palace that she chose that job because it's an easy way to get money. And I think it was also an easy way to get accepted. Talking about getting the job of your dreams is easy, but from my experience, it really is not. When you need money you have to suck it up and find anything available. Plus, Buffy doesn't have a college diploma, which can be a big deal sometimes.

In "Flooded," Buffy applied for and was refused a bank loan, not a job.

I always thought Willow invited him to the party because when he comes arrives he says "Yeah. Willow mentioned the shindig ... figured we're all part of the team."
 
Maybe they didn't need anyone else in the Magic Box? I mean Giles and Anya were always there and it never seemed to be busy. Also, I think the working in fast food (ie. crappy job) was a metaphor revolving around having to live in the big bad world and having to 'do it hard', so to speak - which was pretty much the story of s6..

On this idea of newfound friendships - I always wished they'd played up the whole Faith and Spike thing more. I love that scene in the basement in (Dirty Girls?) in seven where they're talking about how Faith took over Buffy's body and all that. There's some great chemistry there.

yes...but spike and buffy are better ;)
^ I think I read/heard somewhere that they were considering doing a Faith spinoff at that point, and Spike would have gone there instead of Angel, so they were checking to see how their chemistry worked.
