Most people seem to have one thing in Angel that they dislike, be it Cangel, Connor or something else. So if you changed that one thing how would the series go?

The "Cordelia is an Angel? Cordelia is evil? Cordelia's not actually Cordelia? Who is Cordelia again?" story line.
I would rather they had just killed her outright.

Yeah, even though I'm not fond of women being killed off shows... they didn't have to kill Kate for her to leave... but killing Cordelia on her way to meet Angel would have been so much better than what happened.
The original version of Kate as a much darker individual than she was.

James in Heartthrob would be replaced by Spike (pining over Buffy) who got the same procedure (plus his chip out). I bet that was the original intent but told Spike was too protected by plot armor, so invent someone else out of the blue.

As Angel wipes everyone's minds of Connor at the end of Season 4, Cordelia (the REAL Cordelia) wakes up from her coma and only she and Angel have the memory of Connor from there on out.. and she's there with the gang in Season 5 as well as dead Lilah instead of Eve.

I want all of this!!!!!!!!!!
Recurring characters. Let Lorne stay at his club. Let Gunn stay with his gang. Let Wes find something else to do from time to time. Let Cordie get a job when Charisma wants to leave. The show lost some thing when it became people who live in a hotel and die to leave it. Adulthood isn't about getting to see your friends all the time.

So simple and sane... maybe not quite enough drama, but so much more flexibility. I like it!! Create drama from imagination, not from killing people off or from ugly incestuous nonsense.
I would relocate Angel's headquarters to San Francisco, Sacramento, or someplace a little farther away from Sunnydale than Los Angeles obviously was (assuming that he had to even stay in California at all). There could have still been just as many crossovers. but it just never seemed to make sense to me that Angel left Sunnydale because he didn't trust himself to be that close to Buffy/wanted her to move on/had his own mission/whatever, and yet he stayed within spitting distance of the one sure thing that could take his soul away again.

I figured that was why he chose LA, it was Buffy's hometown and the first place he ever saw her.
Cangel is never a thing and in conjunction with this, Cordy remains sassy and inappropriately rude (she is funnier that way). Angel stays reserved with a dry sense of humor - none of the dork!Angel who likes hockey we got in s3.

Less Spike in s5 (but don’t eliminate him he served a purpose).

More Faith - not as a permanent cast member but more cameos. Maybe s3/s5?

More Faith is always good!
-No romantic Cangel
-Cordy doesn't die
-Fred doesn't die
-No decimation of the Fred/Gunn ship
-Wesley acknowledges his part in Connor's wretched upbringing and apologises to both Angel and Connor for his actions
-No "dark Wes"
-No Spike
-Faith joins Team Angel
-Anne Steel plays a bigger role
-Gwen Raiden plays a bigger role
-If Lilah must die, she is brought back as liaison to the Senior Partners instead of Eve

I love how your mind works. I really, really do!!
- No Cangel, vision girl or evil!Cordelia. I would love to have seen Cordelia relocated to Sunnydale before the take over of WRH.

- No love triangle around Fred.

- Make Connor more heroic and slightly less antagonist. No mind-wipe.

- More focus on Gunn and Anne's ties to the community. Attempt to handle this a little more seriously.

- More references to and cameos from Buffy and the Scoobies.

Fixing the mess 3&4 became with a Deus ex machina is both the best thing ever and the worst thing ever.

One thing? Only one? Ok I will cheat a little and say no destruction of the female AI members. So Cordy doesn't ascend and become Jasmine and all. And Fred doesn't become Illyria but someone else does (maybe Eve so she could be useful for once!).

No more women in fridges... or you know, possessed by ancient evil. I like my Cordelia shallow and bitchy with a side of golden heart, and my Fred with HER own brilliant head on her shoulders!
I'd reunite the Whirlwind on Angel so that the battle for Angel's soul is between his old family and his new one. Darla could still die which would make Spike and Dru go off into the world on their own and leave Angel alone.

I'd also prevent Cangel from happening.

I have my own version... where the vampires are on the side of good and Dru has a soul... :-)
Most people seem to have one thing in Angel that they dislike, be it Cangel, Connor or something else. So if you changed that one thing how would the series go?

Well, though I am actually kind of fond of Connor, I could see a very neat solution to the Cangel (makes me wanna hurl) mess... Make Jasmine the/a product of the souled vampire and Darla! There was definitely something evil afoot there!

I didn't have an issue with the whole Jasmine storyline if it doesn't include Cangel and murderous Connor... it was kind of interesting. Even the arising of the beast was interesting as long as it's not the avatar of evil Cordelia...

And what if you still wanted to make Connor be born directly of Darla? A two for one special is a good solution to that: How about the beast arising out of the spot from where Connor was born, and then, using (grown up) Connor's blood to raise up Jasmine from that very spot? Just a thought. And yes, definitely skip the Cordelia ascends nonsense. She was never THAT holy!! Maybe she and Groo could go away to tibet to find themselves, or fight demons or something, if they needed to have Cordelia off the show for a bit?

Groodelia for the win!

And yes, have them offered the W&H, but no, don't have them accept... Let them use the tour to end things for W&H (after all, they'll have free run of the building!) Instead of joining, have them use Connor's special powers to help take down W&H and get all their associated folks taken down...

If Connor went nuts because of his connection to the Beast and Jasmine, we could have Cordelia use her powers to soothe the madness from him -- forever.

Oh, and let the slayers come in and help take down W&H -- one last big battle where everyone fights together and winds up all the BtVS and Ats threads in a big finale that makes the world safe from The Second AKA the Senior Partners!

(Oh dear, I feel a new story coming on... I'll have to sit quietly, and maybe it will go away)
---

Or, you know, you could read my story Turned from Darkness... No, it doesn't prevent the entire season five debacle, and sadly doesn't avoid Cangel, but everyone in AI doesn't die in the end... and there's souled Drusilla...

Actually, several of my stories (Xander's New Home/The Twisted Road Home) and my WIPs work on fixing the end of Angel, the series. I might just have issues with how it all went...

So many cool ideas in this thread. I really need to finish my other stories, but... so many good ideas. I hear fanfic calling.

Ouuuh! I love all of this, definitely gonna check your story out :)
Oh deep blue joy yesssss
I love the idea of skipping Cordelia being inpreganted by Connor and instead just have the Beast raise Jasmine from where Connor was born. There was no real reason to make Cordelia "ascend"...I would've rather she try to find another way to handle the visions than become a demon through Skip. I def would've kept her with Groo (even tho I do ship Cangel, I like Cordy/Groo & Angel/Nina) and he would help her find a way to keep the visions and not die because he was thr doting Prince Charming that Cordelia always imagined herself ending up with!

And your concept of instead of the gang taking wolfram and harts offer they spend season 5 trying to take it down with the slayers and whole gang would be amazing. That would be a truly epic final season.

Also your idea of making Eve become possessed by Illyria instead of Fred is the first thing/idea about Eve that's ever been remotely interesting. Who knows if the actress who played Eve had as much range as Amy Acker did to switch between Fred and Illyria though.

CORRECTION: I meant avoid connor/cordelia btw, though i am not wedded to cordy/angel, i don't hate them together. I really wish i could edit my posts. That error is not a small one.
