Richard opened with general blurb on Eliza's career and Tru Calling. They then showed a clip from Tru Calling, the episode "Brothers Keeper".
R: Eliza joins us now. I love these concepts. It"˜s a bit like "Ground Hog Day" isn't it, where the central character, you, you get to know exactly what's about to happen. What power that would be. Wouldn't it be great if I could say I know exactly what you're going to do next, Judy, you're going to cough and you did, or she's going to sneeze.
J: That's not a problem at the moment, spot on.
R: Tell us how do you get into the past? What happens?
ED: Well when the show first starts out in the first episode, Tru witnesses her mother's murder and the first scene she's at her mothers side and she appears to be having a conversation with her mother. Cut to 10 years later and she's now got a job at the morgue....
J: Tru has?
ED: Yes Tru has and she's trying to get into med. school. She gets this job at the morgue, she unexpectedly falls into it and on her very first night, on the graveyard shift, these bodies ask for help and her day restarts and so she has got 12 hours.......
R: Hang on hang on..
R:So when she thought she was imagining her Mother talking to her at the graveside 10 years earlier she really was hearing her Mother, and now she is hearing these people who have passed over?
ED: Right. I mean they don't really like talk to her, they just kinda....as soon as they say "Save Me' or "Help me" or "I Need You" the day shoots back and all she has is a name and a cause of death. So she gets a little bit of crime investigation......
J: So it's not really a question of the corpse suddenly coming alive and saying "Help Me"?
ED: Ehh, yeah, it's kind of a sixth sense thing.
J: So your just........
R: (Talking Over Judy) So the Moment you.....
J: (Sighs) Richard!!!
R: ........I want to get this straight shhhhhh!!...this happens all the time, you'll have to forgive us!
(He motions towards Judy who looks extremely pissed off and rests her head on her hand).
R: So the moment you hear that appeal for help that's all you need to hear to transport you back 24 hours.
ED: Yeah we have this Whooshing! sound. This..(makes a whooshing sound complete with hand gestures)... kind of thing happens!!
R: Do it again?
Eliza does it again!!
R: Why pay for special effects, why pay for special noises when you can have that?
ED: Yeah...we whoosh! back or are propelled back and the day starts again. And I like jump out of bed or where I've fallen asleep, or if I've fallen asleep at work and everything is the same and no one else knows that the day is happening again except me.
J: Are they all murders?
ED: No some of them are fire. The episode coming up is a fire and that one is particularly disturbing. There is a little girl who dies of smoke inhalation. That's kinda ......
R: Accidental deaths?
ED: Yeah. Sometimes. It's this like...people that kinda have unfinished business. I mean were kinda starting to get outside that one formula of it's a murder and just exploring different areas and ways.
R: So sometimes you would not necessarily be able to avoid their demise that day, but make it buy them a little extra time to finish what it is they need to finish.
ED: Yeah, maybe. I mean we're trying all different things. it's cool. And then in the course of the day the little fun things, like "Ground Hog Day". Like you know..it's like someone...she has the witty comeback on the 2nd day. The first day she may be like speechless and then she has a full day to think about it or maybe stopping people from dropping things or tripping and falling....
R: It's that syndrome like you've had a row with someone and you think if only I had said..or I wish I thought of this....
ED: Exactly. Yes. If I could go back an day or an hour or a minute and just do something or think something a little bit......
J: You were only about 17 when you started Buffy and you did not expect it to work out as well. you were only supposed to do a few shows really?
ED: It started as 5 shows and I was enrolled into university at Boston. I had my dorm room picked out and I was a little excited. I'd done my orientation and I'd kinda thought "Oh I'll make some money for college.' and it just turned into this character. It was really rich and....
R: So have I misunderstood? I thought you continued with your education whilst you were shooting Buffy, is that wrong?
ED: Yeah. Because I was enrolled in....I'm from Boston and I went to LA to do the show.
R: Ah right, but I thought that there was period in your life where you were doing stuff and you were getting a lot of teasing...
J: That was at school..
R: That was in High School?
(Me..Yep but not as well as Richard!!..sorry I just can't help myself..!..:O))
ED: Yeah I have done about 15 films and I did my first film when I was about 10 years old. I really just tripped and fell in to the business, through my brother. I started playing these daughter roles. I was Arnold Schwazenegger's daughter and I played Robert De Niro's daughter twice.....emm once...I worked with him twice. So I've been really lucky.

R: But you did get a lot of teasing from you fellow pupils.
ED: I got a lot of teasing and going to public school in Boston it's not a cute thing to say "Oh Hi,. i just came back from working with Arnold". I mean people gave you a lot of grief and so.......
J: Would that have been different, do you think, if you were living on the West Coast?
ED: Probably. Because it''s not common and you know in LA or something they have that, or peoples dads work in the business or parents, Mum and Dads., but it wasn't common in the town I grew up in and I got a lot of hassle. Teachers as well. I remember teachers, you know, they'd go "Oh you think, just cause you're a hollywood actress you don't have to do your homework". I'd be "my friend just said the dog ate his homework or something and you didn't give him grief!" It always came back to, you know, "You think you're special" or "You're better than everyone else"....
J: Because we wouldn't be forgiven if we didn't show a clip and from Buffy, here is a clip. Here you are....
R: Killing vampires!
J: Well sort of taking over the mantel from Buffy and slaying everyone.....
R: Only the bad guys..
We then saw a clip from "Chosen"
J: Before we finish off, there is a huge campaign ito bring back Buffy and Angel isn't there in the States?
ED: Yeah. Fans I hear were just going....
J: Petitions and Web sites..
ED: Crazy.
R: Did you say that the really dedicated fans, not like the regular fans like my daughter who is "Sane" but the really...
J: (Interrupts) Are you implying that they are all insane?
ED: The morning of the cancellation was announced there was like a petition with 50,000 names on it almost immediately on the internet.
R: No, what I mean was you were quoted as saying that some of the more extreme Buffy fans are more frightening than the vampires cause they leap out of bushes with autograph books?
ED: (Laughs) Sometimes...No I don't want to give them a bad rap. For the most part it is totally flattering and I always appreciate their support, but once in a while you get that really kind of fanatic. the fan....
R: (Said in appalling American Accent) Will you cut my head off?
ED: that calls you by your character name.. that really freaks me out when they start calling you Faith. You're like Whoo!! there's a problem here with reality and fantasy in this persons head. That always gets me.
J: There are lots of people that want to slay vampires that the problem ..!!
R: Good luck with the new show. It looks to be a lot of fun.
J: Tuesday nights, Sky One.
R: 8pm
