Riley and Dawn

I think Riley and Dawn are quite similar, both were disliked by fans when they first arrived, and are still unpopular characters. Both after their first season had nothing to contribute the the story during their second season - season 5 for Riley and season 6 for Dawn. Both were brought in as part of the Big Bad storyline, and had hidden pasts.

I understand the dislike of Dawn a lot more. Despite her whiney-ness and (imo) cringe worthy acting...the issue with her is that her arrival tampered with the memory of the first four seasons.

Riley's character was only connected to Buffy. He didn't fit in with the Scoobies so they really didn't mesh well - and thus no use for him. I liked him and Buffy though.

I think they had a big problem!! Both weren't in season 2 or3. Those seasons formed fans. Everything that happened afterwards was not automaticly accepted! So a difficult start.

Then they had big roles Buffy's boyfriend and Buffy's sister. They changed the hole gang. Not everybody accepted that !!!

That's why they weren't accepted by everyone!! So I think!
