I think that most people have an extreme opinion of him!

You must have kinda liked him if you thought he was a 'good' character ???

See above for all my views, but again, the chemistry and 'spark' or 'x-factor' just wasnt there!

I like him. At first I hated him, but later I liked him. I never loved him, but I think he was a great character!
 
I didnt like him....he was just soo annoying...and well so different from angel and spike....He just wasnt bad enough .....He was such a fake to...trying to act bad....It just didnt work for him
 
I absolutely hated Riley! I just felt that Buffy was betraying Angel and that Riley was just a loser. I mean, I know Buffy had to move on, but Riley just seemed lame. I guess I'll always be hopeless when it comes to Buffy and Angel. LOL And look what Riley did! He went and had vamps bite him for kicks! But even though I hated him, I did feel badly for Buffy when he left. It just seems that Buffy can never keep a guy. 🙁 Well, back to the point, I hate Riley.

Oh, and gman992, I quite disagree that brooding is un-manly. Brooding and depressive vampires who have awesome taste in clothing (aka Angel) is very sexy! 😀

AMEN, GAL! Lol, i find broodiness and sultriness when mixed with gorgeous sensitive good and kick-ass vampires is so very sexy! 😉
Back to riley, gman992 - i couldnt even contemplate him being better than angel - there are so many reasons i cant even begin coz id be here all night!
Anirahtak, why do you think hes a great character - i thought the idea of the character was ok, but as ive repeated many times, i didnt like him at all - no 'x factor' or chemistry.

I have to say - im in ::heart:: wit angel, lol, but i actually ::heart:: cordy and darla and spike - what a hottie! I dislike riley but just coz hes riley - not coz hes not angel, if you get my confusing point! Lol.

hmmmmmm RIley *thoughts*
well the scene that springs to mind is when he and xander are in i think the basement and hes like "but she doesnt love me"
i mean we as a fan/audience group were never positioned to love/like/trust him because
a) he worked for the government
b) he was the rebound guy
c) shes supposed to be with Angel (lallalala denial)
d) he was like blahblah the initiative is better than the slayer and plus he liked maggie walsh and beh
e) he was niceynice and did no slayerette type banter at all
plus he was broody in the bad way nott the Angel way

but after al that when he was a regular i kinda liked him, well maybe not like but adjusted to having him arounmd
but when hhe came back for that eppy in seaosn 6 i liked him again
especially the conversation when they are in the SUV and hes like oh ive got some stories and shes like "did you die?" and hes like "no: and shes like "im gonna win"
that was classic

so yeh i liked him
i dont think you could call him average though
a) works for highly secretive government agency
b) kills/hunts demons (ranted only 17)
c) enhanced bady from all the vitamins and weird stuff

so im gonna be a fence sitter and vote either wa i odnt mind
