Did anyone else find Riley really annoying. An you know he called her names in the begining like she was some kind of freak or something. Maybe i took it totally out of context. Also the fact that there was the initiative. i think that was just a stupid as bringing Riley into the show. It was not my favorite season you know. Except for the whole spike thing. Without that there would be no spuffy.

i liked riley... but he wasn't buffy's love. he was an importante person to the show because of that "initiative mistery" at the begining. but i was glad that he left in season5.
 
I've said this before, I blame Mark Blucas for portraying Riley so blooming bland...and I blame the directors and writers for not doing anything about it.
But i'm not here to talk about Riley actually, i'm more interested in commenting you your other comment

Why was The Initiative Stupid?
It makes perfect sense in that world, and had it been tweaked just a little bit I honestly feel it could have been the greatest attribute to the Buffy world, both as Adversary and Allied.
The Demon presense is known in the real world, its just ignored by most.
However, the people with the power would want to try to use this. They would try to create expendable super soldiers, they would keep it secret AND they would place it on the spot of where the bad Demonic energy emanates(HellMouth).

I have issue with elements of the Initiative, I have issue with some of the characters, but the idea was plausibly sound and a genuine take on what would happen.

I find this less stupid then some age old evil essence that can control vast armies and worshippers yet can't so much as pick up a can of 'soda'.

agreed, totally the directors fault riley could have been taken in another direction
i just found it quite useless, it didn't really do very much if you had taken the entire initiative out the show would have been the same. Except.... you know... withouth the initiative.

Also i didn't like how they put chips and things in there heads, although it did bring Spuffy. Anyway i think they did truely try to help but they did it the wrong way.
 
The reason I liked that they had the initiative is because that is what would really probably happen. If all these demons and stuff were real, you know the government would set up shop and try to use it to their advantage.

Plus, it gave the season a different feel to it. I'm not saying season 4 was the best, but I liked the fact that the writers did different things. Therefore, it wasn't the same old big bad trying to end the world. Yes, that happened, but it was more complicated than that.

As far as Riley goes, I am one of the only Riley fans around, so I don't have too much bad to say about him. It was nice to see Buffy date a human guy for a while, even though it obviously didn't work out.
 
I wasn't fond of Buffy and Riley together. I found it rather annoying and distracting to her mission. Although, I wouldn't mind Riley being in the story, just not with Buffy. I didn't like the initiative, and I hated Adam. Some would disagree but I found season 4 to be rather disapointing. That's just my personal opinion though.
 
I realised something the other week while watching through all the episodes. I actually used to like Riley. In season 4 at the beginning, he was a fun character. Then he went downhill. When he started going out with Buffy.

Towards the end the episode he left I actually hated him! Everything he said to Buffy (and I am NOT a fan of her) was just awful and selfish. I was actually shouting at the screen.

People seem to get less interesting when they end up with Buffy.
 
Hahaha. Well, she's got her moments, but she's just a girl. And I have a little background in what its like to be a girl!
 
Buffy was far from a fave of mine too.
I liked her for the best part of 4 Years, then as the other characters evolved the way they did, Buffy seemed to become stagnant.
I guess season 5 shows this with the needing to take responsibility and further more in season 6, but even with all of this, I still thought compared to the rest Buffy just lost alot of interest from me....i wan't tuning in for her, infact I was beginning to dislike her on some levels because she wasn't evolving as much.
 
Personally, I don't really care for Riley. He was alright in the beginning, but he got on my nerves. I don't think that Buffy ever loved him. Maybe the IDEA of him, but not Riley himself. He was too 'on the straight and narrow'-all military and ready to take orders all the time without question--that is sorta in conflict with how Buffy operates. Anyhow, I don't care for him. I was happy when he left. I don't think they had much chemistry together, anyhow (Riley and Buffy that is...)
 
I found it really really funny that he was letting vampires bite him.. They made it out to be like him being hooked on heroin, which I guess is the point, but I was glad when I found out about that because I knew Buffy wasn't going to have it. It was pretty crappy of him to give her a choice between getting over it, and him leaving. Hell, I would have left him months prior, he was nothing compared to Angel. Don't get me wrong, he was an ok guy, but he didn't know Buffy what-so-ever. I guess that was the problem, huh?
 
Yeah that was pretty amusing. I think he did it because he thought there must be something that Buffy understood that he was missing. I think he got a sexual thrill out of it.
I agree, they were just plain not right for each other.
 
He's so boring to me. Sorry, I don't want to insult anybody, but every scene that he's in is soooooooooooo boring to me :/ 🙂

Don't worry I am a Riley fan and your not insulting anyone if you think he is boring. You are not alone lots of people found him boring.

agreed about adam. He was super Lame. kinda terminator demon, not very orginal... not well written. And although the concept was acceptable, the way they worked it wasn't.

Upon a second watching I am finding season four not so bad now that I am used to Cordy and Angel not being on the show. Even Riley isn't so bad, and I like the whole initiative thing.

I thought Clem was interesting and d'hauframand the gentlemen, . There were many interesting demons on the show. Adam wasn't. Mabe its because they chose a Schwartzanager look alike without the street cred accent, and even less acting talent than the original. He was just easily the least fleshed out big bad on the show (pun fully intended). Looking back I can remember what all the rest of the baddies had in mind for our little world, but for the life of me I can't remember what the hell Adam was hoping to accomplish. He was not scary.
He and Balthazar should get a nice little country place in hell together.

I *hated* Riley. The second time I watched season four, I hated him less, but I've never liked him. Mark Blucas was a bad choice for him, and the writer was just never interesting. He and Buffy? ZERO chemistry. Their sex scenes were duller than dirt.

I was always annoyed by Riley and I think he's the worst guy Buffy's ever dated on the show.
