Got of to a great start last night/early this morning with a very classy and cost effective opening ceremony🙂

So what events have you've seen so far and what we you be checking out in the days to come?

Been watching the opening heats in the rowling. We've had our first comedy moment of the games with the Sebia men sitting pretty in third before they tipped over into the river, opps!😉 This mess up gave Hungary a life line and an extra day's rest.

Just watched Gringer and Watkins hold on narrowing to finish it in second just edging out France. It was a dramatic finish for sure.

Now flicking about a bit, taking in men's Hockey and might try a bit of handball too. Later football and basketball.

Cost effective is right. Lol. This is how I described the opening ceremony. Rainforest, boring, dance party and hot Tonga flag bearer. Lol.

I haven't checked anything out yet. Looking forward to track and field events, swimming, gymnastics and beach volleyball. I didn't even know they had hockey. Lol. Basketball and football don't interest me even during the regular seasons. Lol. Tennis is ok, might check that out.

So far Sweden has embarrassed them self with extremely ugly clothes in the opening ceremony and a 1-5 lost to Brazil in Football (that hurt).
Swimming looks good better. Hopefully can Sjöström get that gold medal tonight.

I havent seen any yet 🙁 Dad said the womans water polo team had gastro but were doing well.

My facebook is flooded with horse people annoyed at coverage. That is where I get my news haha

Yup, that's me!

I'm also really ticked off that NBC has the sole rights to show the Olympics. I don't have cable, so I can't watch anywhere. I think free streaming should be offered for things like the Olympics.

Yay! GB's first Gold and Silver in the pool. Fantastic! 😀

Possibly controversial opinon here, but I am quite happy Lizzie Armistead didn't medal and that the Russian Paralympic team has been banned and imo their Olympic team is deeply suspicious 🙁

Am planning on checking out some swimming myself. Just annoying so far that most of it has been during the early hours of the morning here.

But us brits are very lucky to have the BBC's wonderful coverage!

Priceless

The BBC have been wonderful
Yay, Gold and Silver to Sweden last night. 🙂
That's an extremely good day for us.

I feel a bit sorry for Emma Johansson though.
Had she take her Silver medal any other day it would've been huge news with a lot of press coverage.
Now she's barely mentioned in the newspaper. It's all about Sarah Sjöström's gold.

I'm deeply suspicious of the whole thing and have very little interest, which is a shame. You take a look at the 100m and I believe 8 of the top 10 fastest men have been caught by the drugs testers. Which leads to the inevitable question that if the vast majority are doping how would clean athletes possibly beat them? Which leads to the unfortunate suspicion and conclusion that they don't beat them.

Think the govering body have handled the whole thing very bad. As sad as it is the only fair thing to do was to ban the whole of the Russian team outright. Its bad enough that they couldn't make that important decision but then to pass the buck to individual sporting bodies is even more fimble. I mean this is what sporting governing bodies are supposed to do.

I do feel somewhat for Armistead as these do sound like speical chirmtances and part of the mistake did come from the people carrying out the tests. Then again rules are rules, and she is still very lucky to have gone.

I agree that every winner makes me wonder for a second, are you on something. So perhaps the answer is to allow doping, then it would even the playing field up as everyone would be doing it and could be honest and open about it. The winners would just be the ones with the best pharmaceuticals.

I don't feel too bad for Armistead as part of her job as an athlete is to make these drug tests. I don't know the whole story, but to miss one drugs tes is ok, two is careless, but to miss three is a bit too suspicious for me.

Am also pretty happy to see Djokovic out of the tennis 🙂

Yeah it is silly free streaming isnt offered now days!

Someone please delete this if it isn't allowed, but there are a whole bunch of sites online where you can watch the Olympics, including some of the less popular events that rarely, if ever, get televised. We have cable, so I haven't tried it, but I have some friends who have been telling me about Modern Pentathlon, not to be confused with the better known track and field category, and just about the only way to ever see it is online.

I've been able to watch some events on cbc, have yet to find a site streaming the riding disciplines though, I'm sure there's bound to be one out there

I just find it hard to judge someone without all the facts, and you have to assume that these were special conditions otherwise why did they let her go? In general I'm in favour of being strict to the rules but there should be some flexibility too. Don't forget that one of the missed tests was down the them not her. So in a way she only missed two.

You're far more generous than me :-)
Really enjoyed the closing stages of the Handball between Argentina and Holland (Ladies). Its a really eye catching end to end game, with a lot of skill involved and can be very unpredictable. Think I will be watching more over the course of the tournament. To me part of the appeal of the Olympics is getting watching and getting excited about sports you normally wouldn't. Think Handball is one I would be happy to watch live too.

Its a shame that UK sport doesn't put any funding behind such sports. Its like with Basketball. I read the other day that for youngesters between the ages of 11-15 its the most played sport.

Catching up on the Olympic coverage. Woot go USA! We got 13 medals already. Men's swimming team won a medal. Rowing was in first place. I'm looking forward to the track events.
