Film critic Barry Norman dies aged 83

I know not all of you will know who he is but for me he was one of great and distinct voices in film criticism. Part of the old school and one of the first critics I ever heard. He had a brilliantly measured and thoughtful way of expressing his views on films, but also didn't hold back. I like that he didn't take himself too seriously either. Loved some of his interviews. The story about the bust-up with De Niro made me chuckle. 25 years on one show is something to be proud of too.

RIP to one of film reviewing greats. My thoughts are with his friends and family at this difficult time.🙂

Sad day. He was & always will be the voice of 'Film nn' (where nn was the year for those non-Brits).

Like you say he never held back if he didn't like a film (no matter how Big-budget) & I found I mostly agreed with his assessments.....

RIP Barry! 🙁

Its sad that the show is so watered down. I guess Ross did a decent job, better than you expect. But they've messed with the format a bit too much with the last series.

Must admit I pretty much gave up watching not long after Barry left...just wasn't the same......

I didn't really watch Film nn when he presented, I only really was around for the Ross years. He was a British institution though, so it's very sad to hear of his passing.

It seems as though 2017 is somehow going to be as bad a year as 2016 for all the good and great people it's taking from us. Goodbye Barry, you will be missed.
