If you could patent a way of playing a musical instrument, he would have been recognized as an inventor. There was an interview with him once where he showed how he played a certain part - he strummed the guitar backwards and forwards but damped three of the strings when he went backwards. This created a distinctive sound no one else had played yet. His band was one of the greatest ever and if he had not been here, the world would have been an emptier place. RIP Eddie.

"Dance the Night Away" from Van Halen 2 is still one of my favourite rock songs of all time. The intro is closest to sounding like being at a live concert of any song anywhere.
