MERRICK!
No this thread is not a joke although I wish it was but Steve Irwin has just died not 1 hour ago. Most of you will be waking up to find this and I wish I had happier things to say. Apparently the father of 2 was in North Queensland filming for his latest television show when he was stung by a stingray. He immediately was rushed to hospital but unfortunately the sting caused his heart to go into seizures killing him. He truly was an amazing man and will be missed by many including his 2 children and wife.

It is funny (not ha ha) that after all the deadly animals he dealed with his life was ended by a mere stingray.

Steve was not only a father but also an avid animal rights activist. I am sure that everyone's thoughts are with his wife and children!

Jess you beat me to it.. yes the news is true... i thought he was stung then drowned? anyways i only found out 30mins ago.. it is sad.. whats funny is it wasnt a crocodile.. RIP Steve Irwin.. (im still in shock) .... you were a great person.. i appreciate all the work you did..

EDIT: just thought i would add that as Buffy the Vampire Slayer said (member on boards) it is low that us as the public know about his death... and Terri (his wife) and the kids dont even know.. that is so sad... how devasted will they be.. i hope they dont here it from the media.. they should have been told before anyone...

STEVE IRWIN... YOU ARE A LEGEND.... xxxx

Update: Apparently Stseve's heart was pierced by the stingray barb and he died with a hole in his chest!

Wow. I did actually think this was a joke, but now I know it's not, it's just, wow. I spent a lot of time making fun of his suicidal tendencies with animals, and now it's actually happened. Well, RIP Steve. You were a brave man indeed.

wow i feel kinda stupid i saw this right after jess made this thread and i was like who? then just a few mins ago my step mom said u know the crocidile hunter died from a stingray i was like OMG i read that lol i dunno i'm amazed by it myself... ya know i mean i would have thought it'd be something different that ya know took him wow so sad sorry for the family's loss 🙁

It is very sad indeed he leaves behind a loving family including wife Terri, cildren Bundie-Sue (who is 8) and son litlle baby bob (who is 3). As well as many friends and adoring fans. He accomplished so much for someone who was 44 and will live on in the hearts of many.

Steve you were an amazing human being and will leave a whole in many peoples hearts!

There could be a joke made there but I think it would be in bad taste. So I'll just say he was a very respected and brave man, who did a lot for a lot of people. Well done Steve.

I just read this when I woke up. Its so sad. I didnt think the guy could die. 🙁

Such a shame for his family. My kids loved watching his shows. Viewed as brave by some and foolish by others for his daring antics. Whatever your view, this guy felt at home around dangerous animals, and I don't think anyone would of thought he would go out like this, in such a freak accident.

It's a good job his children can see him immortalised in all his documentaries, as the youngest child, being not quite three yet, probably wouldn't remember him in years to come.

Not much of a consolation really though. 🙁

Wow, I can't believe it. At first, I was thinking "Who's Steve Irwin?" but then I remembered it was the funny Crocodile Hunter guy. I used to love watching his show when I was younger. It's a shame he had to go out like that.

It is terrible news indeed. To die so young leaving behind two young children.

There is a morbidly humourous irony to his death, though. He laughed in the face of crocodiles, he mocked deadly snakes.. and in the end some daft fish killed him.

aye , was shocked to hear of his passing... very sad dudes.....

but was also suprised it was a stinkray that got him.... 🙁

hes the 2nd person to be killed by a stinkray in 60 yrs how much does that suck.....

he died what he loved doing.. they better not show the footage of him being attacked.. cos they have it on camera 🙁

Of course they will show it and do you wanna know why?
Because Steve Irwin would want them to.

He has always said that when he goes out filming if something happens they should carry on filming and let his 'fans' see it as its all part of nature, life and death.

If they don't show it thats going against the wishes the memory and what Steve Irwin stood for.

Having said that, it might be in poor taste, but I remember a celebrity death match with Steve and the Medusa(find it on YouTube) where at one point she cuts his chest with her tail and he says this
"I can acctually reach inside my chect and feel my heart beat.. What a stinger!"
talk about life imitating art.

I'm not mocking his death, i'm just remembering that life goes on

Well the number of tributes they have played on Australian TV is remarkable and the fact that I cried through each and everyone of them shocked me even more. I never cry not even when my great grandma died or when my cousin dies a week after that! Although I do remember crying when my best friend died but I was 10.

P.S Diiddy Kong is god!!!

It;s sad that he died like that. Some people at my school think that Steve died because he was messing with the stingray. I keep on telling them that he was not messing with it, he was diving and I guess it hit him or something like that.

I was watching TV Guide Channel and they had something on Steve Irwin. Steve was talking (this was before he died obvisioulsy) about how when he died he wanted to still be doing what he loved to do. Which is the animal thing. He said that he wanted to die doing something that was great to the world.

Totally. He was probably just swimming along... minding his own business.. Its not like he'd be interested in the fish

I have never really watched his shows, but I was still saddened to hear about it. My Mum says that he was so passionate about what he did. He has a wife and two young kids too. It truly is a tragedy, although not everybody seems to understand that as there have been some hideous jokes about it circulating. They made me sick, and I wasn't even really a fan. Some people are just so insensitive. He will be sadly missed by everyone that grew up watching him.
