Ennio Morricone, whose haunting, inventive scores expertly accentuated the simmering, dialogue-free tension of the spaghetti Westerns directed by Sergio Leone, has died. He was 91.

One of the greatest film composers ever. He had a diverse career and worked right to his final years. Even if you've never seen a movie or TV series with his music in chances are you will know some of it. His iconic scores will leave on. RIP.

Which version of the Thing did he do the score for? Guessing not the Carpenter 80's since that was Carpenter's own music. Can't see any of Morricone's scores being razzie worthy.

No, it was Carpenter's 1982 movie. Morricone did the score. And it was indeed Razzie worthy.

Morricone did the score to John Carpenter's "The Thing", and then John Carpenter cut out a whole bunch of it and added his own score. So there's a little bit of Morricone in the score to The Thing, and a whole lot of Carpenter. I personally enjoyed the score to The Thing, but then I enjoyed the scores to Halloween, Escape From New York, The Fog, etc., so you know where my likes lie.
Tarantino unearthed the Morricone score to The Thing and upcycled it for The Hateful Eight. Take a listen to that, if you haven't already. It's really amazing.
