Ripper and Spike Movie to Be Revived

Yep, I'm not a Pete Doughcrappy fan. Seemed made up to me, about having casting already.

beware of Buffy Issue10 Spoilers!!!:
http://www.darkhorse.com/zones/buffy/editor.php

Those of you who wish to avert your eyes to possible spoilers:
At Joss's panel in San Diego, he made some announcements that rattled many a Browncoat and Buffy fan in the audience, including the fact that he's in the early stages of working on a Ripper (Giles) series for the BBC, finally spinning a Buffy character into a new project.

A Ripper series would definitely be awesome .. but how long do we have to wait?

I have a question....
It's clear from all I've read that we can't believe a lot of this article. But, does anyone think the show ITSELF could be real even if the casting could be wrong or is it that the whole article is bunk?

I don't really care who's cast as a zombie as much as whether or not the show could be in the works.

Well, yeah, you can't confuse the different sources. If Joss Whedon says at Comic Con Ripper looks good for the coming year - and he did - you can take that to the bank. He believes that. Things could change, but for now he believes it.

The Daily Star however has a history of bogus casting rumors both with Buffy, and Doctor Who that I know of. You read those ones like those Elvis and Aliens stories you see in the American rag mags at the super market checkout.

THANKS!
In that case, it's WONDERFUL NEWS!
I'd love to show more concern about the drug addict zombie guy, but it seems to me that even if the rumors were 100% true and he was being looked at for the cast, with all the stuff I've read, he'd knock himself out of the running fairly quickly with his weird behavior....or not live long enough.

I am not too sure if I would want the Spike movie to be made. Partly because Spike has never been one of my favorite characters. But I would LOVE to see the Ripper movie be made...

Edit:

Dumb question::

If this 'Ripper' movie (or tv series) happens, is Anthony Stewart Head gonna be in it? Or is somebody else gonna play the role of Giles?

Yes ASH is signed on for it.
I'm hoping 'Ripper' gets off the ground - and also hoping Willow is in it, cos I think she deserved a spin-off more than Angel did. Angel fans, feel free to kick my shins! But I hope Whedon is very closely involved in any series that develops from 'Ripper'; when the BBC do fantasy well, they do it very well, but when they do it wrong it's bloody awful. At the height of Buffy-success they came out with this project called 'Strange', about a 'supernatural investigator'. It was embarassingly awful.

Well, I'd be happy if Joss just had nothing to do with Fox ever again.
They don't seem to give him the respect or room that he needs to just go. And I'm not sure why, since he's PROVEN that he can deliver if given the room.
Heck, maybe he should just fly to Atlanta and take his ideas to Ted Turner himself.
I'd like a Spike show AND a Ripper show. Maybe just a short Spike show that blends into the Ripper show. Stick Spike back in England and let him go. Maybe because I'd just like to see him try to find a "gang" all his own. That would take some creative writing!

id love to see both happen if possible 😀

being a massive spike fan id personally love to see a spike movie, or tv special...i think if they do it within the next year or so they could get a really good story out of it, considering how series 5 of angel ended. they could easily pick up from that.

I would love to see ''Ripper'' happen as well...think it would also make great entertainment, plus anthony head is brilliant, would love to see him return as giles 🙂

Um...yay?

Yes, I'm freaking out BEHIND the computer so none of you can see me. None of my excitedness will be displayed on this thread as it could possibly get me ridculed. But I seriously can't wait...if Ripper comes alive (which I have a feeling it will) I hope they air it on BBC America. Which I get, by the way. 😛

I'm less enthusiastic about a Spike movie. Unless it comes out in theaters, then I'd be all for it.

I dunno how I'd feel about a Spike movie or not... I guess it'd be interesting but why only share the premier of a Ripper film in England? That doesn't make sense sense the show itself started in the US.

I believe it's because only the BBC are willing to fund and air another Buffy programme/film/whatever ya wanna call it. And the BBC is obviously a British corporation thus...British release.

Giles on my screen, even if it comes out in England first = good. I'd watch ASH juggle geese if he did it in character as Giles.

Spike? Eh. I kinda feel like we've seen all we really can out of him... except for the Angel/Spike relationship. I loved that dynamic in season 5 of AtS. I could stand to go a few more rounds with those boys. If he Shanshues, I think that would be a fun story to watch. I'd also watch anything and everything having to do with Spike and Dru, if they could get Juliet Landau back.

Mostly, though, I'm more excited about a show than a movie. Joss does TV shows much better than he does movies. I'm also more excited about a Ripper project than a Spike project because, like someone else said, Spike's been done to death (literally); we just barely scratched the surface of Ripper/Giles.

Yeah, I had no interest in the proposed Spike project.
Joss is probably a real ass and difficult to work with.

He believes that. Things could change, but for now he believes it.

I hate to say it, but his believing in anything- ever- means almost nothing to me. His work in comics, film, and television combind, his "believing" in something, from making things happen to things being his best, is usually a kiss of death, as it's not just fails to happen or sucks, but is majorly terrible on an epic scale.
His believing in something snuffs out 98% of my hope.

I've been dying to see the Ripper spin-off since it was announced years ago. It'd be great that if successful, the BBC could do one per year or something, (sort of like their adaptations of Phillip Pullman's Sally Lockhart novels). I've full confidence a Spike movie could work with a decent premise, but they'd really want to get moving on that in the next two to three years.

Given the fact that the BBC love JM in Torchwood you never know. Personally I don't trust Dawn Ostroff given she cancelled Veronica Mars (still very bitter).

If we get any form of Buffy i'm pleased, it speaks for itself the fact that comics are still going and the fact that we still have an active community.

I would still like to see a Faith spinoff but thats not going to happen, but at least we get Eliza and Joss in Dollhouse.
