Ripper and Spike Movie to Be Revived

I hate to say it, but his believing in anything- ever- means almost nothing to me. His work in comics, film, and television combind, his "believing" in something, from making things happen to things being his best, is usually a kiss of death, as it's not just fails to happen or sucks, but is majorly terrible on an epic scale.
His believing in something snuffs out 98% of my hope.

I disagree.
Joss saw a vision for Buffy and it was hacked all the hell in the movie. But, he believed and later found a better outlet for his vision. He believed in Firefly. Sure, it got canceled, but he believed in it and WHAMMO canceled TV series turned into major motion picture. Something that just doesn't happen. I think Joss's belief is a lot stronger than most people's "life missions".

I can't remember if it was posted on this thread, or not, but the last word on the Ripper thing was they wanted to go ahead with it but one party who had something to do with the copyright was making waves.

My theory is it's the Kazui's. I have another theory that goes "the Kazuis are jerks".

I don't think it is Fox in this case, because I got the impression Fox was already on board when Joss made the announcement. Also haven't Fox and the BBC already done a similar kind of project in the past with the Doctor Who movie?

Anyway...whatever the hold up is here, it isn't Joss who's behind it.

"Something that just doesn't happen"? May I remind you of a genius named Gene Roddenberry and his dream, otherwise known as "Star Trek?" You may not like the show and its resulting franchise, but Star Trek went through the exact same steps (other than the original Buffy movie) that Buffy did: first run, followed by syndication, cancellation, series kept alive by devoted fans...We can only hope that Joss' dream is ultimately as successful and long lasting as Gene's has been.

(And now the old Avenger stands by for the attack of outraged Buffy fans protesting their darling Joss being compared with Gene, Buffy with Captain Kirk, and Spike to Spock. Hey, that sings! Spike to Spock, Spike to Spock, Spike to...it's been a long day, folks...)

Buffy, Spike and Captain Kir, Spock comparisons? I've just gone to a bad visual place

AH! TRUE! And, then again, not quite true. Star Trek had three seasons before it was canceled. Firefly didn't even get to finish all the episodes in Season 1. Thus making it a MUCH bigger feat to accomplish. Heck, even a bigger feat to have such a huge fanbase! I have nothing against Star Trek. And Gene deserves his props. But, he still didn't accomplish quite the task that Joss did.

If you read my post more carefully, you will notice (though I wasn't really specific enough, I guess) that i was comparing Star Trek to Buffy, though the comparison could also work for Firefly. Interestingly, Roddenberry's original concept for Star Trek was a western in outer space, and the original special effects had no sound in the vacuum of space. He also envisioned a mixed gender crew and a captain and executive officer who had a unique "comrade in arms" sort of relationship. Sound familiar?

(One last thing: Roddenberry's original pilot featured a character named "Pike" as captain of the Enterprise, and Whedon's original movie also had a character with the same name. A coincidence, certainly, but still just one more similarity.)

Well, then that's just SNEAKY! Try not to make my brain travel...it carries so much baggage it can't all be carry on! ;)

Yes, I would love to see this, but I'm getting sceptic when nothing happens.
Well when Anthony Head was at Collectormania in March he said that he's completely up for doing it the second Joss said yes but as Joss is in the middle of Dollhouse it's not really looking good for the near future

I'd love to see a something done with Ripper but I just don't think it will happen

In fact Any spinoff concerning Btvs or Ats would be, im actually embaressed to say, just totally the best thing of 2008. I cant believe how much
i would love it. And if Ripper does happen, when its released, EVERYONE watch it, and then buy 5 copies of it, then promote it and let as many people as possible know how much you loved it, then we may get a few more spinoffs. Yipee.

lol yeah I agree with that

Anything new related with Buffy/Angel/Firefly is good ...I'd be the happiest person alive!!!!
Until then we have Dollhouse to keep us going...Joss, Eliza and Amy....that's good enough for now!
