"Ripper" Confirmed by Joss

S'ok TabulaRasa, at this point it has ASH, Pete Doherty as a zombie haunting London, its set in England. Its a 90 minute TV movie, might get a 6 part run if its successful, won't start production until into next year, its being shown on BBC2 in the UK.

Thats all we really know for now. 🙂

Well thanks for that. I appreciate it. This time I actually 'read' it. I am not in the uk but I will get my hands on it some how. 😉

i disagree with all of you... i think casting pete doherty would be a fantastic choice... especially for a zombie... art imitating life anyone? he would give it the young, freshness that ripper would need.

also... maybe some of you people should not judge people based on their drug habits as you do not know where this stems from and also stop believing everything you read and see in crappy magazines as many magazines like to create a hero and villain for sales. they change these hero/villain characters very quickly, all it takes is chronicling the britney spears/k-fed fiasco to see how someone can go from being the apple of the medias eye to the bad guy.

just saying.

Good point.
I don't know, guys. I'm still in not caring about this zombie guy and loving the Giles mode. I mean, how could more Giles possibly be a bad thing? My brain just refuses to compute. lol.

Ok I think I'm letting my own feelings on adicts dictate me a little here....I have had friends and one family member ruin their lives, and that of others in pretty much the same fashion as Doherty and I really have very little time for it. I can't help but feel that a genuine young actor should get that role, cuz in fairness it's a pretty big shot, that doesn't mean however that I'm not doing handstands at the thought of a Giles continuation!

How sure are we that the Pete Doherty information is true? It sounds like a bogus rumour to me. The story originated in the Daily Star, a British tabloid, know for making up their stories.

As for the article on whedon.info, which seems a lot more believable, I'm happy Joss is finally moving forward with Ripper. I wonder what the story is going to be. Maybe it will tie in with the comics?
Could it be about Giles and Faith tracking another evil Slayer?

I don't think it's following the comics as I'm sure somewhere it said that it would be set in season 6 of Buffy during the time Giles was back in England. Sorta filling in the blanks
Photographic evidence and many of his own personal confessions, charges and evidence brought against him when the law decided to intervene and the medical/personal records at the rehab clinics he attended. Not sure how easy it would be to see the original documents in each case but if someone wanted to I'm sure contacting the appropriate authorities would help.

Not very much of his life is in any doubt, thats the problem. If it were rumours started by someone else then alright, but from his own mouth and police/medical community files? a little harder to ignore.

Speaking of Chris Crocker, aren't his 15 minutes already up? Or did it end the instant that YouTube video hit the internets?

His fifteen minutes only lasted 5! I think they were up the second Seth Green did his little tribute to him.

Tony was a guest on Jonathan Ross's BBC1 chatshow last night and mentioned that he and Joss were still intending to make Ripper but other projects kept getting in the way. Apparently they talk about it every couple of years or so. I suspect the interview is probably now online but as I can't access youtube (or similar sites) here at work I can't post a link...if someone would like to do the honours...

edit -
Old Master III agrees: The interview is not available on youtube....but I did happen to run into one of ASH's old Taster's Choice commercials. 😛
There are a lot of Ross interviews there...I suspect Tony's will turn up eventually. It may even be put there officially by the BBC 🙂

Did you hear that he said it was start off being the one film? Hinting that it would turn into more than just one? =D

The question still comes up as just where in the buffyverse time frame will this movie take place. About the only "open" times available would be the year or so between the destruction of Sunnydale and the beginning of the "No Future For You" arc or somewhere later than that, otherwise it's gonna go off canon, not that that would cause Joss a moment's pause. Tony's got the same problem James does: age. He can't play Giles BEFORE he met Buffy, he's just too old. That means that, unless we have a old Giles telling a group of young Slayers how it was in "the good ol' days," then slipping into flashback mode, it's gonna be hard to pull it off.

(...unless, of course, "Ripper" is about the OTHER Giles, the one from the "Wish,Doppelgang" universe...)

Oooh. I like the idea of a Wishverse Giles.
It says onWikipedia that Ripper is being screened on the BBC this summer, and it will feature Giles after s7 when he is in England.

I find it pays to take what Wikipedia says when speculating about future TV events with a large pinch of salt. 🙂

The Jonathon Ross episode will be repeat in just under two hours, for any of you who are british, missed it first time, and don't sleep, like me. Yay!
