Robin Wood's hometown?

Just noticed something. In the season 7 episode 'Help' Principal Wood says he grew up in Beverly Hills. But the Spike always refers to killing his mother in New York. If Wood was taken in by her watcher why would he take him to the other side of the country?
Anyone else noticed this?
 
Well, Nikki's Watcher must have been quite close to her to take her son in after she died (he could've just dumped him at an orphanage after all), so I guess he decided to get some distance between himself and the city where his Slayer died. A new start.

What I could also imagine is this. I think I remember Robin saying he was four when Nikki died? So he was old enough to have some memories remaining of her. Maybe Nikki's Watcher wanted to make as clean a cut as possible for Robin.
 
I think the answers pretty simple, Nikki and Robin are from NY(As far as it looks) but it was never said the Watcher was, Watchers get sent to slayers.

Giles was from England got sent to Sunnydale, even when Buffy died he went home.
 
There's also the possibility that he was lying about where he grew up, the same as he was about most of his background. Willow tried to get information about Wood through the internet,and could find nothing at all, as though he never really existed (in "First Date," I think). Aside from his name and the fact that he was the son of a Slayer, raised by her Watcher, he might have manufactured his entire identity just to be qualified to be awarded the position of Principal at Sunnydale High School. He might have been spending years on the road, hunting his mother's killer, living pretty much the way that the Winchesters do on "Supernatural," and, aside from his name and parentage, everything else is fake.

This is what I was gonna say, too... I thought "Well maybe Nikki's Watcher was originally from Beverly Hills, and took Robin home with him when Nikki was killed."

I imagine Nikki and her son were probably vliving in New York at the time Nikki was killed. She does refer in "Fool for Love" as taking him over to her Watcher's house though, which implies he was living in New York at the time as well.

As Sky said, perhaps Nikki, her Watcher, and Robin lived in New York until Nikki was killed, when Robin was four. As Mumrik said, her Watcher was probably sent to her, in New York. (Aren't all Watchers British, anyway?) After that, her Watcher could have moved Robin to California to start afresh. Seems plausible. Guess we'll never know.

I can totally see Wood as a Sam/Dean kinda character, as WA said. I imagine once he was out of high school and no longer had to answer to his Watcher (in Beverly Hills, or wherever he claimed) he probably took to the road and tried to find Spike. Through the grapevine, he probably heard that Spike had stopped by in Sunnydale, that he was in fact living there, and Robin decided to forge whatever certification he needed to become the Principal at the school. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it was revealed that the entire reason Robin came to work at SH, hired and befriended Buffy, and began to fight on her side, was to honestly get close enough to Spike to kill him.

I don't think so, he didn't seem to know who Spike was.

Wood told Buffy that he "went through this whole phase" of hunting down the vampire that killed his mother, which, unless he was lying about it. would imply that he had given up on finding a single vampire among all the vampires in the world. As likely as not, he finally just decided to settle down somewhere permanently, and the opportunity to secure a well paying job that would afford him plenty of spare time for his "freelance demon hunting,"
right on top of the hellmouth was just too good to pass up. He might have also figured to form an alliance with the Slayer and help her.
