Simple Question: Should the new slayer be concerned with a romance/love triangle? Are romances/triangles played out in 2025+?

I voted no, but that's a personal preference.
If designing, it to be popular I'd have to vote yes. It's like the rules of urban fantasy and anything involving vampires, and it's just something I grudgingly accept as inevitable.

The answer depends on what audience the production team wants.
If younger women, then some very romantic storylines are inevitable. If younger men, then more temporary asignations. Older viewers want to see "affairs" that reflect their own life experiences.
So, I am very confident that there will be something kinda- to very-romantic going on and we will find out a lot about what kind of show the producers want to create by the romances we get.

So totally true. Especially when TV series cast rediculously gorgeous actors in sensual to sexy clothing and situations. Just sit back and enjoy..... 😁

I wasn't sure how to vote, but finally went with "Yes," because it seems inevitable with a teen protagonist. Also, that's one of the major conflicts in the life of a Slayer, that it makes it almost impossible to maintain a romantic relationship, and that can make for interesting storylines.
As for whether it should be with a vampire, it depends how the vampires are in the show. But my guess is that the temptation to have nuanced, complex personalities for them will lead to one eventually becoming a more major character, which means at least friendship is likely. They may already be planning for an Angel-like character. I would be against a vampire romance, though, just because it would play out pretty much the same as in the original.

I voted 'no'. I'd rather the focus on world-building and building friendships/characters over a romance. Let's go for something different.
IF they do cram a romance in there, hopefully it's not the slayer with a vamp. Been there, done that and we've got the notes on how that all ends. Also, if they put the new slayer in a relationship, at least leave it to the second season (if there will be one).

Heck, no, to love triangles at the very least. That is pure soap opera drek and that is where such things should stay. It is perfectly possible to create a show, whose underlying premise is not romance-related, which does not revolve around something that is not its main topic.
Been there, done that twice. And given that the second time was so much worse than the first, I hate to think how awful a third time might be.

Maybe not a triangle but at least a romance of some kind. It adds another dimension that the writers can exploit.

Human feeling is part of growth into adulthood and most of is who aren't specifically aromantic or asexual will naturally form romantic & sexual attachments. I find it hard to imagine a healthy young person who isnt ace who will want to have a an asexual/aromantic existence. Even ace people form connections.
Not sure triangles are necessary or helpful but TV likes drama.

It occurs to me that I'm thinking of Joss and Mutant Enemy as being in control. Not only was it an abrasive soap opera for me (and at times contrived), but it got so downright absurd at times (or sadistic?) that if something would cause emotional upset, especially jealousy or romantic angst (even if misunderstood through jumped conclusions), then the one so vulnerable WILL see it from the shadows (or equivalent) that I literally invented headcanon that vengeance demons set up reality to work that way in order to drum up business.
I was also thinking that when they really needed to talk to someone fast then set up an upsetting scene for the desired person to stumble across (this worked so well that Buffy appeared in Los Angeles all the way from Sunnydale just as Angel hugs Faith) and post lookouts to catch them peeping. It would work better than their phones.
But with a different crew at the helm, perhaps they can do it without all that.

I voted for "maybe if it's not with a vampire". The value of romance depends on how it is written. Triangles have been done to death, like Fred with Gunn and Wesley and that was manipulative writing, so I don't want those. The romantic partner should be able to understand and play a part in the show, so Gunn and Faith were a good couple that they unfortunately never proceeded with. One or both partners not wanting a romance should be the starting position with this changing over the course of time. Love at first sight happens in real life but it is hard to write so that it seems to occur naturally.

I did as well. I think the more modern way to handle it would be for it to be human relationship. It would make it more relatable to all age groups and less cheezy if the target was to the older fans.

I strongly disagree with the human relationship. I'm not in sci-fi and fantasy fandoms for mundane 'relatable' relationships for people who otherwise hate and don't understand genre fiction and its tropes. The more epic, larger than life, angsty, tragic and forbidden, the better.
The plight of the outsider is a huge draw with these inhuman lovers and heroes. Yeah, I'm that fangirl who crushes on the likes of Angel, the Doctor, Castiel, Spock, Data, Elijah... Suffice to say, I've got a hilariously predictable type.
You can do something other than a third vampire with a soul without being the second coming of Riley Finn or Xander Harris 'done right'. Time to kill the media-illiterate age gap discourse in genre fiction when it comes to the immortality trope.

For me it isn't no romance. It's don't focus on the romance and avoid the abuse. Having 95% of the romances be abusive was a Whedon-Noxon thing so i think New Buffy will be good.

THIS defines every problem with BTVS romances. It is almost like Whedon was not as good a writer as he thought he was and he only hired newby writers who were still learning.

Doesn't have to be the main character, but we need someone to root for to get a happily ever after. Something like FitzSimmons would be super cute.
There has to be some kind of morally grey romantic partner, it will probably be a monster woman instead of monster man this time. I hope they age it up to collage and beyond rather than high school, but that depends on who the target audience is.

Yes, i also think they should age up their characters; Btvs and similar shows always put 20/25+ years old actors to play high school "kids", it is ridiculous, sincerely. 🤣
Also, the fact that these shows also depicts attractive actors to play stereotypical "unattractive" and "nerdish" characters (Giles, Xander, Willow) and preach morality on the matter is also laughable.
I hope the show will be more serious and horror, less drama, no triangles, no bullshits etc, but I doubt it. It would probably be on the same line of Btvs
