Roseanne Cancelled!

ABC/Disney KNEW who Rosanne was when they decided to bring the show back and her along with it. They KNEW the kind or person she was. They KNEW her kind of comedy. Basically they KNEW full well who they were hiring. And now they act all shocked and outraged because the person happened to be exactly who they KNEW she was? There isn't enough facepalming one can do in the face of so much stupidity. But that's the world we live in I suppose.

Yes, its the hypocrisy that burns me up more than anything. That, and the Twitter sheep jumping on the bandwagon.

But it's a case of them getting their cake and eating it too.

Disney made a profit from the show, so that's a plus, then when the person acts the same way they always act, Disney can gnash their teeth and cry outrage thereby appearing to be bothered by such behavior, so that's a plus. They made money and get to appear as a company that cares about moral niceties. It's a win win situation for them.

It is racist because it insinuates that black people are less than human.
But then it's racist no matter who it is said to. If animal comparisons are racist, then it's racist across the board. Whether the person is black, white or yellow or whatever.

I fully understand peoples POV in regards to the history of black people in America and why that would struck a nerve. But people of other color, including actors and politicians (across the world including the USA), have been compared to animals for decades now. There are freaking memes about it online. If it was such a bad thing to diminish black people by animal comparison, why is it acceptable to continue this but just shift it onto people of other color? And it's not only acceptable to do this but supposed to be funny. That doesn't solve the problem, it just repeats it but shifted onto a different group.

ABC / Disney wanted a show that would appeal to the red state Republicans because no one else was doing one, so they got Roseanne who emulates Trump's degree of racism and they should have seen it coming because she was this way from the beginning of her career. But here is the interesting thing: the show was a Trojan Horse. Although it was about lower-middle class red state Americans, the initial episodes were about Roseanne being hooked on opiates because she needed knee surgery and couldn't afford it, so she traded blood pressure meds with Dan to get opiates. This is the kind of thing that shows socialists and Canadians that the Republican ideal of people each getting their own medical coverage and the government not being involved has a huge flaw: not everyone can afford it and our single-payer system in Canada is ideal.

Yeah we do forget how lucky we are in Canada. As someone who gave birth in a hospital and had 0$ to pay afterward, I was happy that I already had paid for that with my taxes!

But do the re runs of her old show deserve to be pulled from syndication? Cause that really
Bothers me. Tvland and other networks have decided to pull the 90s sitcom from the reruns and that’s actually a very good show and has a lot of good themes and good things to say. You dont think that that type of retroactive censorship is an extreme over reaction? House of cards wasn’t even pulled from Netflix I don’t think when Kevin Spacy was fired.
Sometimes it is cumulative. People just take it and excuse it, until a tipping point arrives and they want nothing more to do with "you and your chaos". It then becomes 'cut my losses' and everything gets shoved out the airlock. People knew she was an a**, BUT then she shows she is in fact an unrepentant bigot and they just say ENOUGH! Out you go!

Part of it is that she has made them feel embarrassment and even shame for allowing her in all this time. You see it with Bill Cosby too. People stood up for him for years until all of a sudden the light went on and all the "roaches and rats" became visible, and now they see that they were there all along.

*We humans are good at Sunnydale Syndrome.*

Usually the vampires and demons are more real & much more corrosive, but if you like a person, you want it not to be true that they are vile and rotten.

Giving them up may mean you liked a bad thing (or you just fear that). Or you have lost part of you. It is terrifying. Unsettling.

The other truth is that even truly talented people can be vile. It is also very hard to stop loving those who speak to us deeply... sometimes we even follow them over the cliff. Dangerous! Because even the most vile are usually 100% right about something. That is when this becomes truly scary.

But the media and Hollywood outrage is a freaking joke to me. If regular people are bothered by this, fine. But that ilk? They accepted the likes of Weinstein, Cosby and others like them for decades and nothing happened. These people continue to praise Roman Polanski and work with him. But Rosanne's tweet is somehow worse than repeated rape offenders including pedophiles who continued business for decades? But a tweet in bad taste is somehow worse than drugging women/children and raping them? Baffling really.

Yes the media are total hypocrites, and much more important stuff is sadly being ignored. The world sux! The media are venal. Is not news. 😛

I still say it is better they are bothered by the small stuff than not bothered by any of it!

And all the people you mention are also brginning to be held acountable. Things in this life change slowly!!

Wait, Rosanne got revived?
...
Well, I guess ABC can do what they like to someone who is basically an employee who said something they didn't like. By that same token there is a huge double-standard when it comes to acceptable language in comedy regarding all sorts of hot button issues such as race.

Also, historically, plenty of predominately white countries have been depicted as unflattering animals to insult them for all manner of reasons. Also Jews. Also Irish. And it still happens and doesn't generate nearly this kind of outrage.

I'm still trying to figure out WHY Roseanne said what she said about Valerie Jarrett. Aside from her racist tendencies, I would think there was a catalyst for Roseanne saying something like what she said about VJ.

I would think there was a catalyst for Roseanne saying something like
I think it may have to do with the fact that while many democrats acknowledging Trump has lowered the unemployment rate and boosted the economy, Jarrett was/is still claiming, in conferences and speaking engagements, that it was all due to Obama and had nothing to do with Trump. The latest report on her (Jarrett's) questionable claims came a little over a week ago. That's the only potential catalyst that I could see.

Her tweet was in response to a post from a user that accused Ms Jarrett of covering up the Obama administration's alleged "misdeeds."

Either way, Valerie does bear a strong resemblance to Zira. That's just a fact.

Guess that explains why there was no outrage by anyone when it was announced Rosanne would be coming back, with Rosanne. ABC/Disney basically hired a known racist and they were perfectly fine with that. But apparently only so long as said racist kept their racist comments away form the public. And now they act all offended? YOU HIRED HER. YOU PAID HER.

Seriously where is the outrage towards ABC/Disney that they gave her a gig to begin with?

That was Taake's point earlier. She's the same person she ever was. Roseanne, I mean. Not Taake.

Basically, her support for Trump DEFINITELY made her a target. There were people just WAITING to nail her, and she gave them an excuse.

Speaking of which, a few weeks ago, Kanye West went on a Twitter spree, in support of Trump. Then on TMZ, he said, "When you hear about slavery for 400 years ... For 400 years? That sounds like a choice." And all hell broke loose. Black celebrities either distanced themselves from him, or tried to censor him. I mention this to underscore the climate we live in these days. Many people are terrified of saying "the wrong thing," of actually saying how they REALLY feel about something. It's pathetic and makes me nauseous.

It does make you wonder though if the shows ratings, which were constantly declining, were holding steady would the show have been canceled. Or if ABC actually owned the show, thus, owning all of the revenue if it would have been canceled. Especially considering her tweet was not as bad as other things she has tweeted in the last decade. Maybe if ABC had a more financial reason they could have ignored the tweet, the way they ignored all of the others.

But there was outrage. I don't know why some here are pretending like Roseanne being brought back wasn't controversial. The BoycottRoseanne hashtag started back in 2017 when they announced the shows revival. It caused enough talk that Roseanne herself publicly addressed the concerns and said that she wasn't going to be portraying a Trump apologist on the show, but that her character would address the strong divide we have in America as that was realistic. She also mentioned that she would be staying off twitter, but that clearly didn't happen. When the show first aired it sparked several opinion pieces about it and whether or not it was a good thing. Disney absolutely has been aware of this all along and decided that her latest trouble made the show not worth it anymore. They are hypocrites and any and everyone could/should have seen this coming....but I think they were hoping the controversy of it all would bring in ratings, which it did, then be forgotten. Disney got plenty of flack; but they probably deserve a lot more.

See I don't watch TV anymore so I didn't know that. But clearly there wasn't enough boycotting and Disney clearly did not care. If they didn't care then, why care now?
If the show had been #1, and stayed there every week, I GUARANTEE they wouldn't have pulled the show. No question about that.

Also, Kristy Swanson is taking a lot of heat on Twitter for supporting Roseanne. I like Kristy. She's a strong woman, and doesn't back down. Twitter is also messing with her tweets, sadly. That's so lame.

I don't like the point that Disney knew what they were getting into bringing her back. Clearly it was quite the process to get the cast back together and create a revival, so I'm pretty sure in that process there was a discussion about her past behavior at some point. There had to be. In fact, there was probably discussions specifically about social media. That's one of the most important things to consider in ANY job nowadays. So the way I see it, she was given a second chance, she knew how she needed to behave, and she flat out blew it.

To be honest, I just think Disney decided the money was worth the risk of backlash.

One more thing...I do know that she has a history of mental illness. I think she might be bipolar, though I'm not absolutely sure. It would explain a lot. People she knew had warned her about what she'd been saying/posting in the past...she knew, but sometimes when you're bipolar, you suddenly get into a mood and just DO something.
