I think they get paid...they all signed contracts, so I assume they still get the money.

I feel there's too much I don't know about what went on behind the scenes to comment on it, though I will say I'm too cynical to easily accept that she was fired because the one who fired her genuinely had principles. Somewhere along the lines profit motivated them (or they won't be big for much longer). On a legal matter, I will say they have the right to fire her over it (just as they would if she tweeted Joker + Hitler = dt, or Donald Trump) as long as they're a private business, though if they already signed contracts then they're still obligated to pay whatever was in those contracts (and as far as I know, this could be a brilliant move by Roseann to collect a bunch of money without the work before retiring--hell, it's possible this entire incident was planned with the one who fired her in some cynical way to play the masses, though that's likely assuming too much). People get fired over a lot less, including just too many pix of themselves drunk and partying on their personal FB page because of how it might affect the public's ability to trust them to do good work which an cost the company money.

That said, it was obviously tweeted with racist overtones. This may not be as obvious to those not raised in the United States given that the nuances of our racial divide aren't as apparent to foreigners, but comparing blacks to monkeys and apes is a long tradition here (and it's disingenuous of US citizens to say otherwise). It's not used exclusively against blacks, of course (and white people like the last President Bush had it used against him), but that's how it has long been used even before "politically correct" was a thing, and how it's naturally understood.

I'm open to the idea that Roseanne attempted some comedy in poor taste (or more likely she just said something stupid and low class because she was offended by something political Ms. Jarrett said, and in the process made herself look bad rather than her target) and is not actually a racist, but not that she wasn't exploiting racist overtones in her tweet whether she is a racist or not. This isn't one of the all too many examples of PC gone mad (as Bill Maher gives examples of in the YT vid I linked to) but straight up knowing what she was tweeting, and no doubt hoping it would create a backlash (though whether she wanted the backlash she got is an open question).

I have discovered a new conspiracy! Ambien makes you racist. I was on it a few years too. I remember being on the phone to @Sweetescape (?) one night watching willows fireball hanging in the corner of my shed.. The day roseanne apologised - she was on the come down and probably heavily influenced by others to retract it (if we want to go along "the drugs made me do it" line. I've never seen her stand up routines, but I have seen comedians say much much worse, without the ridiculous outrage and spanking by the general public.

This is outrageous, I'm English! We're famous for our level headed ways and it's why we own Scotland.

US zoo uses 'Maori' dancers to open Australian exhibit

SAN Diego Zoo has used what they called Maori dancers to inject indigenous culture into the opening of its Walkabout Australia habitat.
The dancers performed at Friday’s launch of the walk-through exhibit, which features kangaroos and wallabies.
The zoo’s Facebook live video of the event drew criticism from viewers but is still visible.

“Do you yanks ever open a book or look at a world map?” one person wrote.
The zoo initially responded to comments by saying Maoris were “native” to both countries but later apologised for the mistake in the Facebook live video comments.
“Our sincere apologies. We were given incorrect information,” they wrote.
One commenter described the error as a disgrace: “Mixing two very different cultures and perpetuating the ignorance the US has about most things beyond its borders.”
Yet another said: “Murica, long may you reign as the simplest kid in the class.”
Fiona wrote, “Your attempt at cultural appropriation is wrong, rude, and offensive.”

The zoo initially denied that they had it wrong at all, until news spread. Please I do not understand the world (Brain dead from the ambien) - can someone tell me why its ok for an american zoo to offend TWO entire races of people? But one person, insulting another ONE person is the most hideous thing that has happened in the world in the last week?? Its a witchhunt.

I dont trust that zoo to look after our roos if they can not even figure out which country they are from. They'll probably feed them kiwi fruit.

I would love to invite THE most offended people to my home and watch the look of horror on their face as they observe blackfellas being treated worse than dogs in the street in this country. An insult about facial features is a regular occurance, if the twitterverse can gain this much media attention with a single comment - image what they could do if they actually cared about the type of racism that oppresses people in the world.

I don't like the point that Disney knew what they were getting into bringing her back. Clearly it was quite the process to get the cast back together and create a revival, so I'm pretty sure in that process there was a discussion about her past behavior at some point.

Why not give Disney the flack they deserve? They could have brought the show back without her. Just have to name it after her husband or something. You don't bring her on board period if there are concerns that her political stance is not in line with that of the company.

I don't know all that much about her, or her show, other than I used to watch it back in the day and found it enjoyable, however she's in the public eye and therefore her opinions and what she tweets matters. She posted a racist tweet and got fired. I feel sorry for the rest of the cast and crew who've lost jobs because of it.

I read this morning ABC are considering either carrying on the show without her or a similar show with the rest of the cast. I hope that goes ahead - why should their paypackets suffer because of the actions of a colleague?

Sometimes I feel that Americans tend to really overreact sometimes, they take a good idea and twist into something weird and overdramatic(most of the time). Also they forget that these people are products of their country and certain generation...

I reckon you're over thinking it. Everyone knows there's worse shit going on all over the world. No one can be involved or invested in all of it all of the time.

She's a celebrity with a large platform who has posted racist comments. Most people have just noted that she's been racist and the company have chosen to distance themselves from her. Those most offended seem to be fans of the show and those on the right who believe people should be able to say what they want without consequences as long as they like that person.

Yes probably overthinking it (wouldnt be the first time) haha I have stayed off the google news feed. Is this one of the first evil schemes since they removed the clause? I think the consequences are a radical overreaction to a throw away tweet. I do not support bashing a dude, his work, his co-workers, background and political views in the pub for making a comment in bad taste either.

I have mostly only seen single tweets in reaction to this - rather than twitter conversations. I just wonder if that many people at the same time can power so much news - what if they all did just one single tweet in support of higher standards past their backyard at the same time? Thats some Doctor Who shit right there.

This isn't a case of Disney being the PC brigade, to me that's laughable. Disney have a dodgy history of racism and pure immorality in their goal of making money. Any appearance of diversity is just that. It's marketing, not something they believe in. They are a machine to generate money. Machines don't have morals or beliefs.

That's a shame, all around… I know a lot of people who enjoyed that show and who'll be upset to see it go over a tweet. It seems a shame that a whole show is now labeled racist because of the actions of one person (compare with Joss Whedon who can do no wrong and if he does it's all "oh the shows are a group effort, not just his work"... why isn't that a thing here? What about everyone else on the show? Why do they deserve to lose their jobs or for their show not to be aired at all anymore?) Not excusing Barr, I'm not informed enough about her general actions or opinions because I'm not on Twitter, but however you spin it this is just furhter politicizing everything and deepening the divide between people.

I like the idea I saw about them just replacing Rosanne in the show with Danny DeVito and not adressing the switch at all...😎

first did not know about the Roseanne show was back on tv that been said she has every right to free speech even it if was Racist. I am Jewish you know how many people say thing that offend me But I am a big boy I can take it.

I highly doubt it. She tweets like this all the time. Disney just knew if she ever got enough flack they could jump on their high moral horse and cancel the show, only to pull a House of Cards and bring it back a few weeks later without her. They don't risk much getting in bed with her.
