C'mon guys...Voice your opinion. I for one, think Smallville is a Roswell rip-off and fails in comparison, But others who have not even seen Roswell love that Tom Welling.

Rosswell is better in my opinion, I don't like Superman anyway, I hate Lana, I don't like Tom Welling.
And Smallville it's boring for me.
Rosswell was a good serie... i dont liked the last season but was ok.

Roswell all the way. I like Jason Behr so much more than Tom Welling and Liz (SA) more than Lana (KK). The story lines, acting, and effects are IMO better on Roswell too.

I watched both shows from the beginnig, But Roswell got really bad, and I fell away from Smallville.

i would have to say Roswell because it provides the best jumping off point for fan fiction. In that respect it may even beat out Buffy, for the reason that the Buffy writers had the time to tie up the loose ends--Roswell didn't even come close to realizing its potential

As far as Roswells potential, It could have totally gone far.
The past lives of the royal four should have been better exploited as well as their future...

I know i'll prolly get allot of "nuh uh he's lyke so totally hawt" but I didn't like Smallville from the beginning simply because Tom Welling is some underwear model they threw into a WB show with 1 acting lesson. He's wooden, boring, pathetic, sad, trite and all around craptastic Actor.

Why is LEX, Lana, and Clark at the same school? That's annoying beyond belief. I saw a few eps of their on again/off again thing and it's just utterly lame.

Roswell seemed to have potential and then it went splat. Smallville just had some more pretty models pretending to be real actors. If the show gets cancelled I'll cheer happily.

Wonderful depiction of T.Welling
Roswell had a fantastic first episode, but fell away quickly. Kudos for being the one of the only two (The other being, oddly, Sabrina the Teenage Witch) tv shows I've seen to feature a Smashing Pumpkins' song. Smallville never really rose above mediocrity, even in the pilot.

i used to be a fan of roswell.. but season 1 was the best.. season 2 is.. well, okay and seasson 3(big BLAH!) but yeah, smallville si kind of a rip of! and i don't really like it all that much.. they have good actors and all, and use nice bright colors, but the action and the story.. is not my thing 😉 lex's father, to me, seems to have a high soapopera factor about him... LOL(don't mean to offend you smalville fans)

i don't know if anyone of you ahev been apart of roswell groups, but i was apart of one on yahoo.. and there were some people there who had a HARD time letting roswell go! and some went totaly MENTAL when ever another roswell fan(including myself) would say that season 3 sukked(LOL kk=ck). they would go ataccing people and stuff(verbaly i mean 😉 not like this :lsvader: )

fun thread. it's alittle strange, but i was thinking about this just yesterday.

i always liked maria... i never liked liz though.. so sugar sweet... annoying! but maria is cool!! not so perfect either! i always see it as a bad idea to have someone who is "perfect" in a show... even though they tried their best to mess up liz's imagie at some points.. she still talked in that pitch... i also like the scherrif...

I don't see how Roswell is a rip off, when the Superboy(w/e you call it) legacy was wrote up years ago.

Lex actually doesn't goto the same school, becauses hes in his mid-to-early twenties, but he lives in the same town because his father made him the chairman/ceo/director of smallville's plant.

Clarke and Lana goto the same school, BECAUSE THEY BOTH LIVE IN THAT TOWN. And thats how it started with them two. Its not like they were lovers when they were fifty, they met in like the kindergarten or the third grade or something rather.

As for the the whole Lana/Clarke, it becomes quite annoying but in the end all that sexual frustration just keeps you watching.

Its not meant to be the best show, just something that preludes to the Superman era, or College Clarke (I love alliteration).

Now Roswell on the other hand was to me, a very lame plot. How overused is the whole "Aliens among us thing"(Besides the fact that Superman is one, but Superman was original for its time and Smallville is just a prequel to it, so therefore not really an alien ripoff).

The writing was good at some points, but the plots just become to confusing. Look theres Tess, Tess is an evil alien, Tess is our friend, Tess is Max's lover, But Max loves Liz, then Max thinks he loves Tess, then Tess is pregnant, but oh wait, Tess is evil, Tess is pregnant, Tess lied about her baby not being able to survive her in this atmosphere (or w/e), then Tess goes shooting off in a weird looking thing capable of traveling millions of light years(Which was pretty shooty graphics). The Max and Liz thing was somewhat like the Lana and Clarke, but the whole Cana thing does it me for me personally, like if your Bangel or Spuffy (Did I mention how much I hate the spuff!).

So Smallville=Roswell ripoff, no. The stories were there decades before someone ripped off alien stories to make Roswell.

Though in the essence of teen ridden dramas, none of them compare to the Buffy.

IMO Roswell is so much better. I never liked smallville, and its not likely that I ever will, and I can't stand Tom Welling. Plus the whole thing of Smallville got renewed but Angel didn't doesn't exactly make me want to watch the show.

Original Slayer: good points about roswell.. i only like season 1.. season 2 is watchable(to pass the time and to just she what happend) BUt season 3 i haven't even see all of it, cause it wasn't any good... and your points about tess.. and max and liz... the plot got very messy at a point... and it was just the same thing... very well said. and what was that whole thing about isabel? suddanly she was older than Max... weren't they sepouse to be the same age?

Good point about the age thing. In their home world, probably Isabel was older, but in this world, they were given the same birthday, unless they really are twins, and they just didn't say that?

But I think Isabel appeared older because she early graduated. And what also bugged me during S3 is that they never really even showed them in high school. I mean it played such a big part in Seasons 1 & 2, but hardly nothing in S3.

I, for one do not like either shows, which is bizarre because of being sci fiish but it is just not me. I have never liked them and never will.
