Any runners on the board? I did a 5k race this morning. No big deal, right? Well usually no, but my pelvis/lower hip hurts. It is bizarre and I don't know what to do to fix it as none of my running group has the same issue. I'm gonna google now, but if anyone has ever had this issue, let me know! (Sorry for my second vague somatic complaint thread in a week)

Also, I'm just interested in finding out who my running buddies are and what distances you prefer!

Man I miss running. Ever since I graduated High School I pretty much stopped. I used to be on my High School's Track n Field Team. Oh those were the glory days

I like running. I've did two 5ks this past summer and I had a lot of fun doing them; I can't wait to do more this spring/summer.

I've never had any pelvis/lower hip pains like you are having but runners are susceptible to hip injuries. Hopefully its nothing serious.

I'm really involved in sports (basketball and soccer) so I run to keep in shape for that. I'm not a long distance runner (I've never attempted to run long distances), but I usually run 3-5 miles 3 times a week.

How often do you run and what distances do you prefer?

I love running!! I'm not good at long distances, so what I do is sprint for a couple minutes, then jog to cool down and then sprint, jog, repeat. I only do about 2 clicks but I go everday and LOVE IT 🙂 We have some awesome back paths near my house that I go on.
Now about your hip! That's not good 🙁 It's no fun to have a sore hip. I know it may be hard, but you should stay off it for a bit. I had a really sore hip a while ago and everytime I took a step it felt like my bones were clicking together. Turns out I had some thing that has a big name I can't remember 😛 LOL! But it was something like some hip bone kept on sliding over another bone due to overuse. Anyways, it was not a fun recovery. I stopped running for two months! It would have been a shorter recovery, but I had continued to run through the pain like the smart person I am 😉 That made the entire thing way worse then it had to be! So my advice would be if the pain continues, wait to run until you see a doctor.

Thanks for the advice Emzzie!

Thanks for the advice Emzzie!

Also, I'm just doing 3 miles regularly and am doing speed intervals to try and improve my race time. I want to start increasing my mileage as soon as I get this hip thing sorted (I'm 28! Come on!)

Well I run every morning but its basically boxing training...so i don't count the miles i just keep running till i can't take no more lol then i have to run back

Pelvis/hip pain sounds unpleasant, I would recommend resting (like 1 or 2 weeks at least) and physical therapy in the shape of yoga and stretching.

Like Emzzie said it might be bone sliding over bone causing the cartilage to wear down (which will result in a lot of pain if it wears down completely and I would recommend going to see a professional about it)

It cwould also be a result over overuse and stiff muscles causing muscles to slide over bones also causing a wear and tear situation that's better to deal with quickly mainly via stretching and massage.

It might also be on account of your shoes not giving the right support for the surface you're running on. The bounce of your step will cause and impact on your bone and a repeated similar impact will wear at bone density and may cause miniscule tears on the surface of the bone (when your muscles slide over these small tears inflammatory states occur)

Either way, if resting does nothing to help I would recommend seeking the help of a doctor/massage therapist/personal trainer

And ps, yes I run too. I go stir crazy when I dont 😀

This is all very good advice, there's a particular muscle the ITB band that is on the outside of the upper leg which if it gets tight can cause pain in either your knee or your hip area, I had that pain in my knee area and streching and massage of the ITB band were the best solution I found.

I used to do a lot more running than I do now, I'd like to get back into it more, I prefer any distance from 2 miles up to half-marathon. Its a great feeling to run, and it does benefit you mentally as well as physically as long as you don't overdo it, I need to stop being so lazy and get back into it I think 🙂
