ABC have listed the upcoming SHIELD show on their “media planning and buying resource,” All Access.

If you weren’t convinced that this show was getting a full series order before, you should be now – there’s not much “media planning and buying” to be done without a show to air.

The listing includes a full blurb, as well as a fuller title. The show also officially has a name now, and that name is Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD.

Now, be warned that this blurb contains some character details that lightly spoil the first episode arc of one of the characters. A bit.

And it also makes it clear that Agent Coulson lives. No flashbacks here.

Joss Whedon (MARVEL’S THE AVENGERS, Buffy the Vampire Slayer) shows us not all heroes are super with MARVEL’S AGENTS OF SHIELD.

Fresh from his role in the summer’s box office smash, MARVEL’S THE AVENGERS, Agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) returns to the worldwide law enforcement organization SHIELD. He puts together a small, highly trained, team of Agents to tackle the cases that haven’t been classified yet, the new, the strange and the unknown. That team consists of straight arrow Agent Grant Ward (Brett Dalton), an expert in combat and espionage; pilot and martial artist Agent Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen); and brilliant if socially awkward scientists Agent Leo Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) and Agent Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge). They’ll be joined by civilian new recruit and computer hacker Skye (Chloe Bennet).

Prepare for an epic adventure that showcases the hope and wonder of the human spirit. This is a world of Super Heroes, aliens and the unusual – of action, spectacle and world spanning stories. The show will speak to the human condition through the lens of our very human, non-powered SHIELD agents – that together we are greater than we are apart, and that we can make a difference in the world.

Executive Produced and co-written by Joss Whedon, Jed Whedon & Maurissa Tancharoen (Dollhouse, Dr.Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog), Jeffrey Bell (Angel, Alias) and Jeph Loeb (Smallville, Lost, Heroes) comes Marvel’s first live-action TV series, Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD.

I think I’ll compromise and call it Agents of SHIELD if it’s quite alright with you.

How long now until the first imagery appears? I expect the May TV network upfronts would be the very latest.

With all the dots is it now MAoS.H.I.E.L.D or MAoS for short? 😉

I actually think Shield on its own was a stronger name, but I'd say they want the name for if they ever do a Shield movie maybe?

I'm not mad on the blurb, the premise is good, just how they've worded this blurb makes it sound like a kids show or something to me.

I'm curious about Ming-Na Wen.
I've liked her in other shows... but martial artist? Have a hard time imagine that.

Regarding the name, I think I'll just stick with calling it SHIELD.

You haven't seen Street Fighter then?
Hmm...weird. Personally, I just like "SHIELD" better (even if it is annoying as hell to fully type out). It's tighter, and it just, I don't know, feels like a better name. "Agents of SHIELD" isn't bad or anything, but just seems like a bit of an unneeded mouthful.

I'm probably just going to call it SHIELD, screw the extra words and the periods.

And it'll probably be a while before I accept that Summer Glau is not playing Skye. Just something that I know is going to bug me.

The new title is too long. S.H.I.E.L.D is short and sweet (as an acronym). Oh well. I'm looking forward to it regardless. 🙂

So they've changed the title again, and dropped the 'Marvels'

By the look of things online, ABC just can’t quite decide what to name its new Joss Whedon quasi-superhero action show.

First the title was S.H.I.E.L.D. And everybody was okay with that.

Then ABC revealed a new pilot title to advertisers via its ad sales website a couple weeks ago: Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. We heard that the change was due to a potential legal conflict with FX’s former cop series The Shield. But adding the Marvel studio name struck some (okay, us too) as kind of unnecessarily corporate-y. In any case, ABC would not confirm the new title nor the reason for the apparent change.

Now ABC has quietly changed the show’s official Facebook page from S.H.I.E.L.D. to … Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Ah-ha! More confirmation it’s now Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Yet the switch had some fans wondering if the studio branding was now going bye-bye. But no, we’re hearing “Marvel’s” will likely remain a part of the title regardless of what the social networking page says (and that, once again, the title may still change). So it’s all probably, as Whedon might say, much ado about nothing.

Apparently this is the shows official facebook pages: https://www.facebook.com/SHIELD

Yes, apparently the writers paid no attention to Alphas. Then again, I'm probably the only person who did. Me and Sheldon Cooper anyway. 😉
