Hey, everyone I thought I'd share my (belated) thoughts on S3.

This is where Angel really gets interesting. The first 2 had potential, but this is where it really takes off as a series. The mystery involving Darla and Angel's child was great. Learning more about Angelus's past was a nice touch too. The final episode was great and I would have hated to wait a year to see what happens next.

Darla- I enjoyed seeing her come back. Watching her go from a soulless monster to a caring mother was interesting. Oh and the ending was awesome. Connor locking Angel in a box underwater.

Holtz- Okay, we need more of this guy. He has a really tragic backstory and I can understand why he finds it so hard to forgive Angel. I really enjoy seeing him interact with Angel

Connor- He's okay. He's an interesting addition to the crew I guess, and he plays a major role in the final episode, but still I'm not sold on him. This becomes more of a problem in S4, but I actually find him much more whiny and annoying than Dawn. I'm still a huge Dawny fan, but Connor is just not interesting to me.

Wesley- I hated him in Buffy S3, but I really like him now. He's growing into his own character. He's probably the best fighter on the show after Angel. I'm still pissed at Angel for trying to kill him, though.

Angel- Ugh everytime I start to like him, he pisses me off. I really was liking him until he tried to murder Wesley and that just pissed me off. Still though overall he is improving.

Cordy- I'm really liking Cordy's evolution as a character. She's certainly not the shallow person she was in Buffy. Her ascension at the last episode was a surprise for me. However, seeing as how I just finished S4 I'm really pissed at the writers. Why the hell is she in a coma for like half of that season?!

Gunn- I've never been a huge Gunn fan. He's not bad, he just doesn't really stand out to me.

Fred- I love Fred. She's really sweet and funny. She doesn't seem to be a major player as far as solving problems for AI, but I still just like having her in the show.

Lorne- I really like Lorne. He always manages to make me smile in every episode. Once again he may not be the most important character, but he's a good addition to the crew.

S3 is pretty awesome. All the Darla stuff is excellent, especially the end. The twists throughout the season are just incredible. Darla staking herself, all the Holtz stuff, everything with Wes and Cordy.

Connor drove me nuts from the episode he returned from hell. I just can't stand him (love him in the After the Fall series though). He's, by far, the single most annoying character on the show, especially in S4 (which started off strong but just came completely off the rails at the end). I mean, I get it, but purely from fan standpoint, as a viewer, it just gets annoying seeing the same character, no matter what happens, just repeat the same annoying actions towards Angel. The same thing happened with Kate in the early seasons. I think part of the problem stems from them just not having that many long-term ideas planned out for Connor beyond his first one.

We differ on Angel the character, but I've been sold on him since his first appearance in Buffy, and I love him in his own series, right from the beginning. I'm really of two minds on the final clash in S3 between him and Wes (another character I really, really like). We went into more depth about it in another thread, but while I get what happened traumatized Angel and understand his actions, I think I would have been able to forgive Wesley, as Angel does in S4.

It happens in S2 as well, but S3 is when Cordy really becomes one of my favorite characters. She's just awesome, and they do a great job of making her the true heart of the team. The way they treated the character in S4 is the single worst part of the entire Buffyverse, in my eyes. I love Cordy.

Gunn, yeah. I like him, and he gets interesting again in S5, but he is a little bland.

Fred and Lorne are both fantastic, all season long. They really add some great elements to the team. Out of the whole Buffyverse, Fred and Gunn might actually have the most "normal" relationship.
