ILLYRIAN: The assault rifle was legally bought
Doesn't matter. The big problem is illegal guns, not legal ones. Banning all guns would not solve the problem.

I don't know who Christina Grimmie is (I don't watch the US Voice), but to be murdered after a show is just horrific. Seriously, what is the world coming to when people can't be safe after a music show, or in a nightclub?!
I have no desire whatsoever to get into yet another debate on this subject, but I would like to point out that the Brady Bill banned the sale of so called assault weapons and the manufacture and/or sale of high capacity magazines for a period of 10 years, and it had no effect whatsoever on the number of gun related deaths in this country. The real "need" is to find an effective way of identifying these deranged individuals and stopping them before it goes this far. Denying them one method of fulfilling their goal simply means that they will find another way to do the same thing, or worse.
Those poor people. 🙁
The number of mass shootings in America have drastically increased since all of the government cuts to mental health funding. People with psychiatric issues (and no insurance) are ending up in prisons, on the streets...this really needs to be addressed.
As for guns; NO, they shouldn't be banned. Period. Should we ban cars because of drunk driving accidents...?
I can see where this is heading...before he leaves office, Obama will have manufactured another "reason" to invade yet another Muslim country. After all, presidents who leave the post in a midst of bombs and cheering soldiers are remembered even more.
But wasnt it Bush who pushed the war after 9/11? It was going on before that too, I thought?
Also on your private psychatrist note - another discussion - but they milk you for money, and the care is no better.
I see arguments like this a lot and I just can't wrap my head around it. Maybe someone can explain the logic. A guns purpose is to kill. It can be used for other things but it doesn't change it's purpose. A car on the other hand is made to take you places. Sadly they also play it's part in way too many deaths, no matter if alcohol are involved or not. The thing is, almost everything, including not man made things, can be used to kill. By accident or on purpose. Some things are just easier to use if you do it on purpose. You know, like things designed to kill.Should we ban cars because of drunk driving accidents...?

He maybe as some claim a conservative disguised as a liberal but he still isn't a trigger happy extreme conservative like Bush was.
He's actually worse. He built upon the groundwork Bush left, and there's been far more drone strikes under Obama. At least Bush was fairly upfront about it.
To be fair living in the UK I'm not sure your in the best place to judge if Obama was worse or not. Besides which politics is much more complex than that. My guess is that all that drone stuff was already set in motion from the Bush era and so it became very difficult to stop. Maybe you can fault Obama for not doing anything to stop them, but I would question if he did much more damage.
If I'm not in a position to judge Obama, under your logic, then why are you allowed an opinion on gun control? This is a US problem which is much more complex than you think.
But I'd say its much harder to understand its politics as a whole if you are not in the country or at least educated on it
Not to see it no, but maybe to best understand it. Do you realize there is a difference between 'gun crimes and/or gun violence' and mass shootings? Mass shootings are mass shootings, not gun crimes. You don't have to be in American and part of its culture to see a disturbing pattern devolping with Gun crimes and that a lot of Americans are blind to that issue.
