Question Saddest Song you`ve ever heard.

Oh, that's hard, there are so many (great) and incredibly sad songs.

Probably a Swedish one called Under ytan (Under the surface=

Lyrics for the interested 😉
Under the surface
There are big and small
Under the surface
There is laughter and cries
There is a lot that happens there
That we cannot understand
But we always find the answers
In the bottom of ourselves
Under the surface

I know, I know, I know that you are there
I know, I know, I know that you are there
I know, I know, I know that you are there
I know, I know, I know

There is laughter and drinking
But it soon ends in chaos
Someone kicks and hits some poor person there
Whom is completely without any chance
I see that no one seems to care
Neither do I
The fear is to big and strong
To do anything at all

Under the surface
I am ashamed of myself
Under the surface
The image burns me

I know, I know, I know that you are there
I know, I know, I know that you are there
I know, I know, I know that you are there
I know, I know, I know

I often think about you
If you were my own brother
Then I also would have changed
Into a monster without mercy
When I see all the evil
That us humans have released
The meaningless suffering
Then it is hard to understand
That all of us have been children
And helpless at some point
Loved without limits
Loved without coercion

Under the surface
We are all small
Under the surface
A good soul may perish

Anthony Head's End Game is also in the running though

(fun fact: I believe it's Alyson Hannigan who does the line 'like a beetle on it's back')

So many...

Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely
by the Backstreet Boys. It came out when my grandma died. It's so special to me.

Another really sad Backstreet Boys song would be Siberia:

How to Save A Life by The Fray. I first heard it on Scrubs and cried my eyes out.

Lucky Boys Confusion - Mr. Wilmington not only scares me to death as a mother but the last verse of the song always makes cry.

Crash by Sum 41. Open up to interpretation- I view it as a break up song, but apparently the band wrote it after a friend died in a car accident. Could also be viewed about depression.

The first verse
Hold me now, 'cause I couldn't even if I tried
It's over now, I guess it really is my time
I don't want to go
But it's time I got to say goodbye
So hold me now
'Cause this will be our last time

I love playing this song on guitar when I'm sad. It's depressing but poetic. Like admitting defeat.

I wrote a song a few years ago about one of my best friends dying. I played it for a friend recently and it made her cry... Guess I've got some stuff to hit people right in the feels.

It's maudlin and sentimental, but it makes me think of my mum

When You Are Old by Gretchen Peters

When you are old and tired and gray
And wear your overcoat on sunny days
When your brave tales have all been told
I'll ask for them when you are old

When you are old and full of sleep
And death no longer makes you weep
When your body aches with cold
I'll warm your heart when you are old

And you'll still be the same to me
A comfort and a mystery
And I will be old too, you see
I'll need someone to comfort me

When you are old and pale and gaunt
And a gentle hand is all you want
I will give you mine to hold
I'll be here when you are old

I'll be old-school and nominate Moonlight Shadow and Lemon Tree.

Addiction has been a part of my life since I came into this world from a drug addicted mother, and it makes Layne Staley's words hit even harder. RIP you beautiful soul.

Here's a few off the top of my head:
Behind every beautiful thing there’s been some kind of pain...

I ain’t looking for nothing in anyone’s eyes
Sometimes my burden seems more than I can bear...

Don’t even hear a murmur of a prayer
It’s not dark yet, but it’s getting there

Down in a hole, feeling so small
Down in a hole, losing my soul
I'd like to fly,
But my wings have been so denied

I think that I've been left alone long enough to do something insane
My friends they worry I'm wasting away
i wish they'd not say a thing
'cause my momma said that no one can stop me
my momma said that no one can stop me
my momma said that no one can stop me
i wont let you stand in my way

It doesn't help that this was the ad that played the Christmas before my dog died. Now that song is forever associated with that time. 🙁

This is from a german singer called Herbert Grönemeyer and he wrote this song for his wife after she died of cancer. I have searched the web for an accurate translation and this is the best I have found (it is still not quit IT, but I guess you always loose something in translation):

I can no longer see
Don't believe my eyes
any more
Can hardly believe
Feelings all turned around

I'm much too lazy
To give up
Besides it would be too soon
Because there's always a way

We were bound together
Would have died for
each other
Bent the rain into a bow1
Lent each other our trust

We tried to
Turn while
schussing
Nothing was too late
But much was too soon

We have shoved each other
Through all the tides
We got sidetracked together
Loved desperately

We denied the truth
The best we could
It was a piece
of heaven
That you exist

Every room you
Flooded with sun
Every frustration
You turned around

Nordic noble
Your gentle goodness
Your untamed pride
Life isn't fair

Danced the movie
In a silver room
From a golden balcony
We stood in awe of eternity

Helplessly sunken, drunken
And everything was allowed
Together in time-lapse
Midsummer-Night's Dream

Every room you
Flooded with sun
Every frustration
You turned around

Nordic noble
Your gentle goodness
Your untamed pride
Life isn't fair

Your confident stride
Your true poetry
Your serene dignity
Your unshakeable
grace

Your destiny
You defied
You never betrayed
Your plan for happiness
Your plan for happiness

I'm not leaving here
I've extended my stay
New time travel
Open world

I have you safe
Inside my soul
I'll carry you with me
Until the curtain falls

I'll carry you with me
Until the curtain falls

And this is the official video for the german version:

I just did emotional songs that make you cry in a previous thread, but I remembered some more when I saw this, so here goes.

I'm not usually into this kind of poppy ballad, but the lyrics, man...they just get to me...

This one is a Danish song, it was released for a Bullying campaign years ago, but still holds up today. I get that most of you won't understand the lyrics, but trust me, it's heartbreaking...completely 🙁
