Same Time, Same Place - 7.03 - Official Discussion

I too thought of Gollum when I saw Gnarl. That Gnarl is the only thing on Buffy besides The Gnetlemen that has creeped me out. It's voice was so creepy, and eww, the eating of Willow's stomach.

James was great, he just keeps getting better. I liked the Willow/Anya thing, I'm glad it's got that funnyness back again.
 
i loved this episode - and i loved last weeks as well.

this series is so good because it has such an intelligent way of transitioning back and forth between drama and humor.

last week was so upsetting (things still all screwy - Buffy/Spike - Xander/Anya - and the disturbing Spike/Anya fight. ouch. it made my stomach churn watching Spike punching Anya again and again - but hey - i did laugh when she jumped up and announced "i'm SO going to kick your ass.").

and then - the ending on the cross. whew.

and then this episode follows - and had me laughing out load - except for the scenes with Willows stomach being cut into strips and snaked on like beef jerky.

ouch again.

and did anyone else think the voice of the skin eating monster in this episode sounded like the characther HIM in the Power Puff Girls cartoon?

It's funny you should mention this, bean. I was reading on Tv Tome's Buffy episode guide that the actor who played Gnarl (sorry..I forget his name) also played one of The Gentleman. How appropriate is that?!
 
well.... they looked a little alike! The Gnarl thing totally creeped me out. I mean... a skin eating, blood drinking Gollum-type with psycho-long fingernails with paralysing poison? It was funny though, when Buffy stuck ehr thunbs in his eyeballys and then they flash to Dawn falling over. that was great.

On top of the insane quote, I also liked "Look, it's the Slayer and her Boy." "Her boy? I'm her BOY?"

I wish they'd resolve the whole thing between Spike and Halfrek. I really wanna know what that's all about.

Oh yeah... and that whole thing with Anya and Willow and the map? All the glowing lights that were at the school? perhaps there's some reference there with Spike's "glowing." And what the heck could it BE? the Senior Partners or something? lol.
 
OK, I've watched this ep like three times, and I *still* scream when Gnarl eats Willow. I'm glad it's not just me being a wuss! To have people rank it with the Gentlmen is pretty impressive.

Again, I think this is one of the funniest, creepiest, and sweetest episodes ever!
 
Ya I loved this ep the whole skin eating monster sure had my willies going but it was a great creature better then some in the past I must say and james was brillient he is doing such a outstanding job .

You might be onto something. I've been trying to figure out what he meant by the "glowing" reference, and I totally forgot about the map and the school. I feel as if we've been given all the pieces of the puzzle this season, and it's just a matter of putting them all together. I always associate "glowing" with The Key, but I'm not sure how Dawn would fit into this puzzle.

Can I just say that I haven't watched the episode but I have read the transcript.

Oh My God are the writers losing the plot. In Beneath You, the whole of the ending was based on Spike but in between the 2 episodes, it's like there is a whole episode missed out. Not only does it start in a completly different place to the ending of Beneath You but when it comes up to Buffy and Spike talking, there is barely even a mention of what happened in the church. GOD DID THAT SUCK!!!

Does anyone agree?

Not that I am a B/S shipper but errrrrrrrr! 😡
 
Wow, I'm a lot late on my review (my comp got a virus and school dragged me away) but better late than never. I really liked the episode. I thougt it was just good old Buffy, Xander was halarious and the monster was so creepy. The only thing other than the Gentlemen that creeps me out, too. But I mean he started peeling off strips of her skin and I'm just spazzing in my chair screaming 'eww, eww.' Anya was so great, and when they first meet up and are all like 'was it you?', that was great. And the whole conversation with Spike and the other three was the most amazing scene. It fit with both people and was beautifully acted. And I love Xander, just because he's there and wonderful and just still so cute. I just plain loved the episode.
 
Best ep so far definately!

Favorite lines: "I'm insane, what's his excuse?" and "Oh look! She's poseable!" Laughed my butt off at that one.

Favorite scenes: When Xander and Buffy carry Dawn in the house and Xander just plops Dawn on the couch - face down! Then "Oh sorry!" It was great. Then when the demon dies and the paralysis wares off - they flash to the house and Dawn just falls over!

One other thing I found so funny was when Willow was asking what happened and Anya says " Buffy just killed the demon and it was gross but everything is ok now" It's not exact but she was so matter-of-fact - it was classic Anya and I miss that in her.
 
It's a classic Joss thing to do. He constantly leaves one story line to deal with another and then returns to another story line in later eps. Buffy left, and hasn't seen Spike since. What's there to miss?

It's gonna be an interesting season. I, and many others, loved this last episode. It was very funny and very sweet. It seems to me that practically everyone has their favoite story lines, and then get riled when any one ep doesn't deal with their favorite. I, for instance, really didn't like ep 2 much but loved ep 3. Others found ep 3 boring and ep 2 great. Joss is gonna have quite a time keeping both camps happy. If he does it right, half of the audience will be happy half of the time.
 
I loved this ep and I'm lovin this season so far. Did anyone just think it was totally gross when Gnarl....well, I can't say it. That was disgusting!

I also must say that I really like Dawn a lot better this season. She hasn't whined at all! And she's said some pretty powerful things. Especially in the first ep when she told Spike that she would light him on fire if he touched Buffy again. That was very powerful. I was like "Yay Dawn! Go Dawn!" and that's saying something. Last season I was very anti-Dawn. And is it just me or has she said some pretty funny things so far? I loved the thing about how they could make a demon data base and she could wear high heels. 😀
 
I've noticed that I'm liking Dawn this season too. Last season and somewhat in season 5 she just bugged the crap out of me. She was always whining and complaining and I would sit there thinking about Bianca from 10 Things I Hate About You. She is really good so far and I hope Joss doesn't muck her up with bad writing and insessant whining again.
 
ha! Bianca. She was SO Bianca. Man... I love that movie.

Yeah, Dawn's gotten a LOT better. I think the powers that be realized that no one really liked her because she was a whiney little sh*t, so they made her cool this year. "Favourite Pasttimes include never doing this again...."
 
I have to agree with everyone, Dawn's lines were pretty hilarious this episode. My liking for her is slowly lessening in the hating area and gradually making its way into the loving category.😛
 
Hey guys - We all love the ep! haha. I love love loved it! James Marsters is an amazing actor. So happy to see Willow again. I too was wondering about all the stuff Spike said in the basement and if it really meant more. At first I thought he made the glowing reference to Buffy b/c of the idea that she's so much better than he is - he had to "hide his face". And I'm liking Dawn this season. Glad that she's a more integrated character. I like the line where she threw in the "and I could wear high heals more often." haha

Does anyone else sorta feel sorry for Spike? It's like William is inside but so is Spike and he can't sort it all out. That line about how helping is supposed to help but it isn't - it feels so heavy - just totally sums it up. He can't seem to find any solace at all.

I know that Halfrek is the girl he was writing poetry to... but they could use that in the story line a little more. All we ever saw about it was briefly in one episode where she says "William? Is that you?" and that was all. It's be cool if they would reminisce or something.
 
Dawn was good again, especially posable Dawn. But interesting thought...For the second week in a row, someone called Dawn 'scary', anyone think there's something to that? First Spike, and Xander in this eppy. Just a observation.
