Same Time, Same Place is one of my favorite episodes of Season 7.

And I always wondered why Willow could see Anya. I love their scenes together, but why isn't Anya included with Buffy, Xander and Dawn?

I understand why Willow can see Spike, but I always noticed a bond that Anya and Willow formed (from about Seasons 5 "Triangle"). Anya took care of Tara (Weight of the World) and tried to talk Willow down (Villains). I figured that by this time, Anya would be the same caliber as the other three (pluss Anya's a lot cooler than Dawn). It's just something that always irked me about the episode. To me, Anya is just as much part of the family as the others are. Why wasn't Willow afraid to see Anya? Feel free to share any opinion.

Oh, and by the way Hi! I just registered. My name's Tyler and I've been a fan of Buffy since 1997 (Lie to Me). I'm excited to talk to other Buffy fans!!

Welcome to the boards, I'm Marwa
I think it was just the whole xander buffy best friend thing and they are most important to her. Especially after what had happened with them the season before. And of course Dawn because she tried to kill Buffy. And Dawn was not so happy about that. But she should have with anya too after killing her store, lol.

I guess maybe because there was always tension between Willow and Anya it seems (think big giant troll destroys sunnydale when spell goes awry) and competition over Xander and his time. I never saw them as being superclose while Xander and Buffy are Willow's best friends and Dawn would be like a little sister. That's my take on it at least....

And lots of welcomes to the boards, I'm Randiann by the way and I like to ramble on and on in case you didn't notice (I gave you the abbreviated version...) hope you like it here!

I always saw it as Anya wasn't really a part of the gang at that time, as she was off doing her vengeance things. So she could see Anya and not the rest. Plus, you know, Whedon-verse. If they want it that way, they do it.

another theory could be that maybe she just thought anya wouldnt be as upset with her as the others. i mean, even though anya would be upset about the destroyed shop, she was currently a demon, and would be doing bad things of her own. she probably saw many big bads in her demon days. willow could have believed that that might have lessened how bad what she did was in anya's eyes. that, added to the fact that even if they became closer after 'triangle', i dont think they became nearly as close as she was with xander and buffy (and i agree with randiann that with dawn it could be like a little sister thing), is a decent explanation.

i always thought it had something to do with Anya being a demon. maybe the spell Willow accidentally cast thought that Anya wouldn't matter because she was evil...just a theory...

Hey Tyler:welcome: 🙂
My theory is also that sinc she was demon then it might not have affected her. But also maybe willow felt that anya wouldnt hate her as much as she thought Buffy, Xander, and Dawn might, either because they still werent as close as the others were, buffy and xander were her bff's and dawn was like a kid sister or even perhaps a daughter since she helped take care of her when buffy was dead. Maybe anya was just a good friend at most

Well, interesting question. I love the episode too, by the way. I think Willow was afraid of disaproval I mean Anya has killed humans before and was a demon at that time unlike Xander, Buffy and Dawn who never did that and were never demons. I'm not making sense, am I?

I think its because Willow sub-conciously cast the spell on herself - it was about her shame and embarrasment at what she'd done that made her invisible from Buffy and Xander (and by association, Dawn). She wasn't ready to see them yet incase they didn't want to see her. I think Anya and Spike can see her because Willow dosen't care for them in the same way as she cares for her best friends or what they might think and feel about her.

oh...i have another theory! :silly: like tranquillity said, it was about the shame, embarrasment, etc. so maybe it was just because she knew that xander, dawn, and buffy would be waiting to pick her up at the airport, and see her, and she was nervous about that. anya and spike werent going to meet up with her then, and she probably didnt have plans to meet up with them later, so it was just a matter of when she was going to run into them. thus, she would not be as worried. i hope that made some form of sense 😛.

Wasn't it Willow thinking that they weren't ready to accept her, considering what she had done to them ?.
Maybe she thought that Anya and Spike would be able to accept her. After a bit of complaining, Anya was the one who helped her.
Also, if Willow had made them all invisible to her, how would the episode have run ?.
Would Willow have found Gnarl ?. If so who would have helped her escape given that no-one would have been able to see her. Much easier to omit Anya from the no see thing, than the bring back a dead character or bring in a new one. Unless Angel had come back for a visit.

ILLYRIAN, haha I know what you're saying...but I mean to be talking about the characters rather than the format of the episode.

And thanks everyone who answered! I have accepted in my own Buffy world that Willow wasn't as afraid to see Anya because Anya was a veng. demon at the time. And while Willow/Spike have a cute chemistry together....they're not exactly as close as I would picture Anya/Willow to be. But thanks again everyone!!!!
