I don't know if this will work - given the differences between what Americans call a sandwich and what we Brits consider as one - but here goes.

What's your favourite thing to stick between two slices of bread? What bread roll filling reduces you to a quivering mass of delights? What boosts your baguette? I'm thinking of basic stuff like mature cheddar and Branston pickle, corned beef and onion, smoked ham and English mustard...not the huge, wonderful deli sandwiches which I've enjoyed in the States.

*pause whilst wiping drool from mouth*

Why do I suddenly feel hungry? Those above are some of my faves along with corned beef and HP brown sauce (probably doesn't mean a lot to you non-Brits - but trust me ...mmm, yummy)

And carrying on from, that any of you ladies who are or have been pregnant had any weird sandwich cravings?

Lets talk butties...
 
OMG i have just realized how hungry i am reading this thread lol 😀

i think that my fave sandwiches are...
Chicken lettuce cucumber mayonaise and tomato *drools at the thought*
and then theres the simple but delicious peannut butter.
ooo and saussage sandwiches
Bacon and egg butties are the best!!!

now i want a bacon and egg buttie lol 😀
 
Drat! I forgot the sausage and bacon sarnies (fried egg optional) They have to come with HP brown sauce btw, although Chris and I found that bacon and grilled haloumi cheese were a good substitute for the full English breakfast sandwich experience.
I think it's time to raid my lunchbox...🙂
 
Mmmmmm... sausage and bacon sarnies... ::drool:: Sadly, I'm on a diet! So that means no yummy fatty fried foodstuffs for me! 🙁

My favourite of all things yummy is cheese. A cheese savoury soft bite from Greggs the bakers... with lots of salady things in it... Mmmmmmm... ::drool::
 
Oh wow i love the sandwiches and stuff form Grreggs they are gorgeous especially the sasuage rolls YUM!! 😀
 
I can't have a hella lot in my sandwiches because of my allergies, but i love a nice big cheese one with salad and pickles.

Egg salad and egg cress, hold the mayo.

Mmmm, now i'm gonna have to go out and buy myself a sandwich.
 
I'm a very plain person when it comes to my sandwich. Either it's peanut butter and jelly or it's salami, cheese, and mustard.
 
I am not one for sandwiches but I can tell you that my oldest son loves peanut butter, bologna and cheese. Truthfully I think its gross but he says its great. I prefer salad, steak and baked potato.
 
I love a brwon bread sandwich with tuna, sweetcorn and mayonaise! I could really do with one now, I havn't had one in ages!
 
I used to live in Montreal Canada.

In Montreal they have this thing called a smoked meat sandwich.

Now, you may think you've had a smoked meat sandwich, (sometimes called a corned beef sandwich), but unless you've had one in Montreal, you really haven't.

In the years since my time in Montreal, I've been on like a holy grail, smoked meat sandwich quest, but never found an SMS that compares to what they sell (or used to sell) in Monteal. The west coast of North America from Vancouver to LA is a joke as far as finding even a decent SMS. I heard Toronto or New York's might pass. Winnipeg comes close.

When I'm not on my holy quest for the decent smoked meat sandwich, I like to talk about them. This one guy told me the reason they're so superior in Montreal is because the people who make them are trained from childhood in the craft. They would sooner cut off their right arms than commit a heresy like placing an SMS in a microwave. The meat must be seperately steamed. It must be sliced with trained expertise, combining the perfect ratio of meat to fat. Only the perfect rye bread baked in a Jewish Bakery that knows how, can be used.

If you should ever be in a North American deli, and you see a lonely dissheveled figure walking the desolate streets, stopping at the restaurant window, to press his face against it, taking a long sniff, then walking silently onwards, you probably just saw me.
 
I love Tuna and Mayonaise sandwiches. No sweetcorn or lettuce or tomatoes...just plain tuna and mayonaise...is gorgeous!! There especially nice from Subway 😀

Ooooo, does N4H know his sandwiches, or what!! Montreal smoked, on fresh rye, with swiss and a big dill pickle on the side...mmmmmm. The only thing that comes close is a pastrami on rye from Switzer's Deli in Toronto...Mr. P, if you come to the Great White North and then to TO, you gotta go there!
 
I like most kinds of deli meats (cold cuts) with swiss, grey poupon and maynaise on two nice thick pieces of Pumpernickle... Hmmm....
 
I love Cheese and Marmite sandwiches or just peanut butter..lol..im weird...I dont eat ANY SANDWICHES with meat cos im a veggie!hehe
 
The sandwiches that will ultimately do it for me are any variety of "Po' Boy".
Are you UK folks familiar with those? Heaven on earth, I tell ya!

The pix look great OM - the name screams Deep South or "soul food" at the very least - pray elucidate... let me hear you say po' boy!

OOh - I forgot to mention the shredded pork barbeque sandwiches Mrs P and I enjoyed in the States when we "did" Route 66 - mmm...porky - as the lady who served us our first one said "They don't look like much but they sure taste good."
