I recently read that David was a bit annoyed that Sarah didn't come back for the "You're Welcome" episode.

Does anyone know if they are on speaking terms? because some sites on the net seem to think he wasn't too happy with her
 
If she did they could have changed the title (just once) to "The Spuffy and Bangel Hour" and Buffy could have taken down Wolfram and Hart by drowning them in her whiny tears. Anyway, I don't know if they're on speaking terms or not.

I'm not sure.

But it wasn't like she just decided not to make a guest appearance. She was filming The Grudge and one of her relatives died. And then she didn't come on at the end of the season because both Joss and Sarah felt it would take away from the characters (turning into the Angel/Buffy/Spike show) that had been on AtS for years.

Whiny tears? What is that about? I'm guessing you have issues with Buffy Summers?

There are plenty of fans who probably would have liked to have seen her make another appearance but she really didn't have to, especially if she had other work lined up and especially if a close one recently passed. If that last part is true, good on them as well.

You couldn't tell before? 😉 There was a point in the later seasons where I began to dislike her.
 
I can't imagine disliking her. Obviously, since she has been my favorite character from the first episode WTTH and still is through the Twilight arc. I found she complained less as the years progressed. When I think "whiner" I think of Dawn ("power hungry" for Willow, "self-righteous" for Xander, "wishy-washy" for Andrew, "love's bitch" for Spike). I'll cave and say that she does have "air of superiority" but that is not hard to feel when a lot of your friends are recovering murderers. Between taking care of her dying mother and sacrificing her life for Dawn in S5, being severely depressed from being ripped out of Heaven and having a crap job to pay the bills and deal with social services in S6, to becoming a Guidance Counselor and Head of the Watchers Council in S7 I can't imagine that anyone could not be impressed or sympathetic.

I know they were the two that hung out with each other the most during Buffy (maybe Angel too who knows?).... I wonder what SMG thinks of David's recent actions. :?

Personally, I thought Cordelia was a million times better in You're Welcome than Buffy ever could've been. Cordelia's character was a bedrock of the series, and Angel, Wes, and Gunn all had strong feelings and history with her. On the other hand, Gunn, Fred, Lorne, and Lindsey wouldn't even know who Buffy was. And I don't see how the episode could be written to focus on Angel, because I'm pretty sure Buffy discovering Spike's ALIVE would take precedence over finding out Angel's a little more depressed than usual 😛

I do wish she'd come back for "Power Play" though. I like Drogyn, but having replaced Giles in his first appearance, and Buffy in his second, I'd have much preferred those two.

David's said in many interviews that Christian Kane & Glenn Quinn are/were the only people from the Buffyverse he considers his real friends. When he was asked about it, he said something like no, I wouldn't go to Joss' house or call James on the phone, because you have to keep your work life separate from you personal life.

I would certainly understand why he was a bit annoyed over that but honestly, doesn't seem like something one would hold a grudge over. Pretty much water under the bridge by now.
 
I think had he not gotten the part of Seeley Booth so soon after AtS ended he would have been upset with her. Maybe believing that S5 would have gotten more ratings if the title character on the more commercially successful show that AtS was a spin-off from had guest starred once or twice. There was only a S5 because of James Marsters' Spike becoming a regular. Even years after Chosen Buffy Summers is still winning awards on magazines and web polls for "feminist icon" and "teen idol" and "famous figures from pop culture" and being referenced in fiction and non-fiction books of many subjects.

AtS wasn't even going to get picked up for a S5 if not for the character of Spike being brought over. The writers hoped that there would be a S6 when they started S5. The fans campaigned to keep the series on.

BtVS ended because Sarah quit and you can't have Buffy the Vampire Slayer without Buffy (unless we're talking bodyswapping her with another actress). AtS ended because it just didn't get picked up for another season.

BtVS almost got cancelled after its fifth season but quickly got picked up by another network and automatically given two more full seasons and would've kept going after that had Sarah stayed.

Here are the facts:
Angel was the 2nd Most Watched Drama on the WB when it was canceled.

The WB has said that Angel probably would have come back for Season 6 if Joss didn't demand an early renewal. But Whedon maintains that it doesn't make sense that the WB wouldn't early-renew their #2 Drama.

Joss has admitted Angel might have been brought back for S6 had he not demanded an early renewal.

The Executive who canceled Angel was fired shortly thereafter.

Angel was cheaper to produce and periodically beat BtVS in the ratings (that's why the WB kept Angel and not BtVS).

After the canceling Executive was fired, the WB publicly said that they'd like to produce at least 3 TV movies to continue Angel.

David Boreanaz declined, and said he would only appear on a television show or a Film released to Movie Theaters.
 
How soon after the cancellation of AtS did that executive get fired? Why wouldn't the WB opt for another season of AtS instead of 3 tv movies if they really thought that executive made a mistake?

AtS had only two seasons by the time the WB thought of not renewing BtVS. It makes sense they wouldn't think of ending it yet. Though nowadays great shows get cancelled all the time after one or two seasons (DirtySexyMoney, Pushing Daisies)

Well Boreanaz moved onto another series. I don't know about the rest and what they did after. It would have been far less of a time commitment. I don't know if that's what they were thinking.

I think you're completely right. Less risk, less investment, plus like you said, Boreanaz couldn't be Booth & Angel at the same time full time.

David Fury (Show Runner of Angel) said there was 100% chance of Angel getting a season 6 had Joss not demanded early renewal or cancellation. But Joss said as the #2 Drama it wasn't fair to make them wait for standard renewal.

Jordan Levin was let go within the year, and his replacement Garth Ancier said it was a monumental mistake not to bring Angel back for a Season 6.

It's essentially impossible to resurrect a show a year after it's canceled. Boreanaz was under contract for Bones, Alexis was dealing with medical issues, and J August was shooting Law & Order. David Fury was on Lost. The sets were gone, studios re-purposed. Amy was on Alias. James was on Smallville. Andy retired after the show because of the heart problem that killed him.

So with the Show-Runner, and all of the stars under contract elsewhere and set gone, renewing it for Season 6 in 2006 would have meant a lone camera shooting Mercedes McNab improving for an hour every week 😛

You just made me think of Harmony Bites, her vampire reality series on MTV.
I have read he wasn't very pleased(I don't know if it's true though) cause he was able to take part in Buffy's last episode but Sarah wasn't able to participate in s5. But if it was around the time her father died she had every right to not participate. Maybe she was filming a movie.I don't know.

I will always want to know how you're welcome would look like with Buffy. I think they would be smart enough to not turn the episode in Bangel vs Spuffy. I think Joss is smarter than that.

The part when CC takes the red sword off the wall of weapons ALWAYS felt like a Buffy thing to do and not really a Cordelia thing. I always wondered if that part was recycled from Buff's draft for the ep into Cordy's.
