Actress Sarah Michelle Gellar has hit out at the annual “No Bra Day” breast cancer research initiative because she fears it panders to perverts.

The former “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” star is no fan of the fundraising drive, when women are urged to go braless in aid of breast cancer research.

The actress is a big supporter of cancer charities but fears the No Bra Day project merely encourages men to leer at women.

In a post on Twitter, she writes, “Just a thought, and everyone may disagree, but isn’t there a better way to raise awareness about [HASHTAG]#BreastCancerAwareness[/HASHTAG] then [HASHTAG]#NoBraDay[/HASHTAG]?… I feel like [HASHTAG]#NoBraDay[/HASHTAG] works to raise awareness about #CreepyMen… Just my opinion [HASHTAG]#BreastCancerAwareness[/HASHTAG].”

The 2015 No Bra Day took place on Monday.

I can sort of see her point, if I squint hard enough, but I also think it's a weird concept that we have to think about that. It shouldn't be the first thing we have to think about for something like this.

But mostly I think that the whole 'No Bra Day' thing was a weird concept in the first place. I mean, there are some women out there who just aren't able to go around without a bra, they need support to actually be able to go about their day. So automatically, they're excluded and then might end up feeling bad because they can't take part.

I just didn't like the whole idea of it.
 
While I don't really see her "creepy men" point of view I agree that there ought to be a better way than "No bra day" which to me just sounds... intensely ridiculous.

A few weeks ago there was a surge of peculiar comments on my Facebook newsfeed, friends writing things like "I got out of a speeding ticket by showing my breasts" or "I have decided never to wear underwear again" - and surely, being aware that it was a "campaign" to raise breastcancer awareness I understood the meaning behind these statements but as the many, many confused comments showed - very few did and that kind of makes you wonder whose awareness you're raising? Most people, when explained about the purpose, mostly seemed befuddled by the whole concept.

That's kind of how I feel about "No bra day", if nobody notices (and if those who do are 'creepy') then what is it for? What good is it really doing?
 
I actually agree with her. What does not wearing bra have to do with breast cancer? That sounds more like the feminist movement in the 60's (or 70's, idk). Unfortunately men can be creepers, that doesn't always mean weird perverts. It just means that they notice and check it out. I guess no bra day draws attention to the breasts but I don't think that people see that and think breast cancer. So yea it's a odd concept for breast cancer awareness.
 
i have to agree with with Lyri and Taake, I don't really know how I feel about the no bra day. I know the intentions are good, but surely there are better ways of raising awereness.
 
As a creepy man I didn't even know that #No-bra-day even existed. Is it a US thing?

I have plenty of awareness about the awful heartache that is breast cancer though, its fairly well represented (is that the right word? 🙁) by cancer charities in the UK.
 
I think the gimmicky aspect of it is what makes it sorta creepy. Not that it's right or fair, but announcing that a bunch of women are going to go around with no bras is almost asking for the wrong kind of attention.
