I know this is a horrible subject to be bringing up, but I wanted to know. Did Sarah's dad really commit suicide? If so, when did this happen? I know it happened almost a year ago, but I'm not sure when. I only just found this out today because my friend showed me something online. I can't believe I never knew about this.

😡 🙁 It must be so hard for her. But I also read that they hadn't spoken in 10 years...something along those lines. Both Sarah and Freddie's fathers ended their own lives. I just wish I knew how they were feeling and that we can make them feel, even the least bit better.

Does anyone have any information on this? Did Sarah ever speak publicly about this (meaning in a magazine, interview, etc.)?

::crying::

where did you hear that he killed himself? my friend's dad was good friends with him and he supposedy died from cancer last year in NY. she also told me that her dad told her that smg was a bitch. i dunno...she seems cool to me

I read it in an article online somewhere. Click here for the article.

Anybody else know anything?

iluvspike, are you saying that your father's friend knew SMG's dad? That's amazing. I can't believe that SMG is a bitch, she seems too sweet. But, hey, I've never met her.

This is what i found from Buffy-guide.com:

Sarah was estranged from her father for many years (he died from an apparent suicide in October 2001).

I don't know if this is true but i have found Buffy-guide to be a trusty source!

Thanks, Darla. I just wish I knew more about this. Does anybody know why Sarah had been estranged from her father for so long? It seems odd that I've never learned about this. It's just a real sad thing to think about. ::nono::

I cant believe you have never read about the whole SMG and her father thing.

Im pretty sure there is some stuff on it in the SMGfan.com website.

Anyway with regard to this friends father being a friend of her dad and saying she is a bitch: think of it like this. Your buddy's daughter wont see or talk to your buddy. From your perspective he is your buddy and you like him (otherwise he wouldnt be your buddy). So you feel she is being a bitch as it is likely hurting him that she is takign this stance. So of course that is going to be your opinion of her. But you dont know the full story and given that you have a friendship relationship with the father you probably wouldnt really change yrou mind even if you did know the full story.

From her perspective her father left her and her mother when she was young and never made any attempt to be a part of her life until she was famous.

So you just have to see things from all the angles.

But from the basic point of view he did something very bad, she was very hurt by this. So whether she is goina bit too far by totally cutting him off is a matter of opinion. But I doubt she is doing it simply because she is a bitch. She has reason to takle some action. How extreme the action is almost certainly a factor of how much she is hurt by events. Not by how much of a bitch she is.

Thank you🙂, Myrddin. If I could cut my father out of my life, I'd do it. I'm not a bitch, and I am sure Sarah is not either. My father left when I was pretty young; I have no intent of keeping him in my life after I turn 18. Sarah did what she thought was appropriate because of her father's actions. It is just unbelievable that he only wanted to be involved in her life after she became famous. 😡 Simply said: That would really make me feel like sh*t. I don't think she went too far. She went just far enough.

woooooahhh people chill tha f*ck out

I didn't say she was a bitch, the father did--and that having nothing to do with the relationship between smg and her father. my friend's dad knows smg personally anyway. (this isn't one of those "telephone" things) i said she seems cool
and i knew all about her relationship with her father too cuz i've read about it in interviews. and..even if she was bitch, why the hell would it have to do with her father anyway?
but once again, i think she's cool/nice and she reminds me of me sometimes

Hey!!! I have heard many stories but the one that makes most sense is that her father left her mom and her when she was around 8 years old.He finally left her life fully at the age of 13,14!

Not sure what to believe but I don't believe it is any of our buisness.

Supposedly Sarah doesn't talk about her dad's death, as she wasn't fond of him.

And with Sarah being a bitch...I wouldn't know. I mean, her co-stars seem to think highly of her, but then, they're not just gonna say, '' and Sarah's a bitch!'' I did read an article about one of her stunt doubles for Doublemeat Palace saying she was really sweet, and she doesn't seem like the mean type, but I guess you have to have met her to know. But then, everyone has opinions on celebrities, even if they know someone who's connected to the star...I myself like to keep open minds about people I don't know. 😀

I found this article about it:

Sarah Michelle Gellar's Father Found Dead
October 11, 2001

The long-estranged father of Buffy the Vampire Slayer star Sarah Michelle Gellar was found dead in his Manhattan, N.Y., apartment Tuesday morning, police say.
Arthur Gellar, 60, was discovered in bed at his residence at 30 Waterside Plaza, say police, who were called by a friend who hadn't heard from him in several days.

There were no signs of trauma, reports The Associated Press. Authorities are investigating whether he may have died of a drug overdose, since medication was found at the scene, according to the New York Daily News.

A family friend told the Daily News that Gellar, who had been battling cancer, was "suffering from depression." The medical examiner's office is scheduled to do an autopsy today.

Leslie Sloane, Sarah Michelle Gellar's publicist in Manhattan, confirmed that Arthur Gellar was the actress' father, but said the TV star did not wish to comment.

Sarah's parents divorced when she was 8, and she has spoken bitterly, if at all, about her father in interviews.

"He is not a person who exists in my life," the actress told TV Guide last year, "Just because you donate sperm does not make you a father. I don't have a father. I would never give him the credit to acknowledge him as my father."

Arthur, who worked in the garment center, reportedly told the Scottish Daily Record, "There isn't a night that goes by that I don't think of her."

🙁

Yeah, I've read this quote somewhere as well. I'm glad Sarah said that. I feel the same way about my father. Granted, I may see him every other Saturday, but he's no father to me. Sarah has every right to say that.
