Save Angel search engine

Remember the day after the Superbowl 'Janet Jackson's breast' became one of the most web searched items in history? What if we took a day to flood Internet search engines with the phrase "Save Angel from Cancellation'? Certainly if all the loyal fans did this, there would be a something published in the USA today or at least Yahoo news. Every little bit of publicity can help the show and I think this will be an easy and effective way to show our support for the Angel.

This entire week (March 8-14) plan on searching for 'Save Angel from cancellation' in every popular search engine available. The main target day is this Thursday (because more people will act if given a specific date) but the entire week would also be beneficial.

The main targets are (click each link at least one time) :

Yahoo
Google
MSN
AOL
Alta Vista
Dogpile

I've listed them in order of popularity for a more effective endeavor. I thank everyone for participating and for spreading the word. Good luck!
 
I just checked Yahoo's Most Popular Searches and Angel is at Rank #13. (Unlucky?) But it has decreased lately, so we must work hard!

Have you heard of Google bombs?

You can read about them here:

Google Bombs

Bloggers invented them. I don't know exactly how they work, but it has something to do with a large group of bloggers linking to a particular website with a specific search string.

Apparently if enough sites or bloggers do this they can influence Google's search results to the point if a person uses Google's "I feel lucky" option he will immediately go to the site they want him to. Even if he doesn't use that option, when his search results are returned the selected site will be on top of the list.

For example try a Google "I feel lucky" search on "Talentless Hack" and you should go to someone's site called Andy Pressman.

Ok, now consider how many Buffy/Angel sites there are out there. You should be able to influence almost any search string.

For example if you chose the string "WB schedule", you could send people's browsers to SaveAngel.org.

I don't know how ethical that would be, but the possibility is out there.

And it would be so easy to do. A single person could do it. All you would have to do would be research Google Bombs, then send emails to every Buffy/Angel site and Blog owner or fan with a personal website, telling them what to do.

You're right as ever n4h. It was done to Bush (a mildly insulting phrase led to his White House site biog - can't remember the exact details) and we've all Googled "weapons of mass destruction" to see the spoof IE error page, haven't we?

So, in words of one syllable, how does it work? Something to do with putting links on sites which are on Google to saveangel.org?
 
Good idea. I will definitly try. BTW, nerd4hire, where do you get all this information from? I didn't think the human brain could hold all that knowledge you have.

Yeah, well thanks, but I'm guessing there's at least 1 member, and possibly a couple of moderators who don't share our affection for the Google bomb idea.

There is a very fine line that is probably going to be crossed by the campaign. Its all good and well trying to save the show but when you start taking actions like this it will give the campaign a bad name and make the exec's think that its a good idea cancelling it. There are more productive, moral and ethical ways.
