Saving Buffy instead of Fred

When Illyria was taking over Fred's body Drogyn told Spike & Angel that he could save Fred, but thousands of innocents would die in her place.

Angel's initial reaction was "screw the world," but he couldn't go through with it and let Fred die.

So what do you think... if it was Buffy's life on the line and Spike and Angel had the option of trading thousands of innocents to save her?
 
I don't think he would've chosen to save Buffy's life over thousands of innocents'. Buffy sacrificed him to save the world, and I believe that Angel would do the same thing because it's the less selfish option. Buffy wouldn't want him to do it, anyway.
 
It's really hard question and that would be very hard decision but I'm with Spikesangel11 on this one. I think Buffy would never let them do that, she is a big hero.

Gosh, interesting question. I don't like to think that Angel would value Buffy's life any more or less then Fred's. Both Angel and Spike loved Fred like a sister. They knew that Fred would not have wanted people to die in her place. I believe they made the right choice.

As for Angel's initial reaction to it ("Screw the world") I think he was simply speaking from the heart. In regard to Cordelia, he said something similar ("Screw logic. We're getting Cordy back.") When it comes to the women Angel loves, sometimes he loses sight of the bigger picture in an attempt to save them. After he and Spike thought about it, they decided that Fred wouldn't have wanted thousands to die so that she could live. I think Fred's death is one of Angel's biggest regrets. He blames himself for not being able to save her and Cordelia.

If it had been Buffy? That would have been an interesting situation. I don't know if in that instance, Spike and Angel would have had the strength to allow her to die, considering how much they both loved her.

I think the fact that they both loved her so much would lead them to make the same decision. They both knew, like everyone else has said, Buffy would never let thousands die in her place. They both knew that she had sacrificed herself for the exact same reason.

At least, that's what I'd HOPE they'd come to realise, despite how painful the decision would be.
 
Buffy killed Angel to save the world. If Angel had to let Buffy die to save it, I think he would do it. They are both the same kind of fighters who are willing to sacrifice if need be.

It's certainly a *way* interesting question. But I'd like to take into account that they might not *ask* Buffy if she wanted to be saved. At that time, neither Angel nor Spike had any contact with her. I think if it was both of them together and the situation was just the same, they'd save her. It might not be what she wanted, but... I think Angel said it in The Girl in Question: "But... it's Buffy."

I believe that either man would have made the same decision, to sacrifice Buffy, both because it was the "right" thing to do, and because it would be what she would have wanted. I think that where the difference would come is in what the results of that decision would have been. Angel would continue to fight the good fight, because that would be what Buffy would want him to do, in remembrance of her. Spike, on the other hand, would be the one to say "Screw the world," and find a way to join her in whatever comes after life, even if it meant the total oblivion of having his soul completely destroyed the way we are told that Fred's was.

That is in no way a statement on whether one or the other loved Buffy the most as much as what I believe, given the personalities of the two men in question, that they would have done. Angel had his mission, helping the helpless. With Buffy gone, Spike had nothing whatsoever to bind him to this world, not even a promise to protect Dawn, which I honestly believe is the only thing that kept him going between Seasons 5 and 6.
