Is anyone else watching this one - Saving Grace?

I'm really enjoying it.

Bailey Chase who plays Graham in Buffy season 4 is a regular. James Marsters guests in the second ep. It has what I think is a Whedonesque feel to it. I'm thinking maybe creator/writer Nancy Miller is a Joss fan.
 
See if Grace doesn't remind you of Faith. She does me. The name might be telling too Grace/Faith.
 
I have only seen the first episode so far. I do love the main character, and I always like Laura San Giacomo.. I really really don't like the religious bits though, they ruined quite a lot for me. Felt like a grown up Joan of Arcadia. Idk. Any kind of religious morality just annoys me, especially when it's supernatural and you actually get to see angels and shit..
 
I think the difference between Saving Grace and Joan of Arcadia is with Saving Grace the morality is never simplistic. With Joan, God was going to work in mysterious ways, but there was always going to be a session of the warm and fuzzies at the end where Joan realized she had somehow learned a valuable lesson. It was kind of like a South Park ending "I think I learned something today", except with Joan of Arcadia they were serious.

With Grace you're never sure Earl the last chance angel is more right, or Grace is more wrong. Grace never does "learn something today" (not really). She's as confused at the end, as she was at the beginning, and so far by ep 4, I'm not sure which one of them (Grace, or Earl) is winning, or which one I really want to win. I think the moral ambiguity is shamelessly in your face, puzzling (in a fun way), honest (in a life's like that kind of way), and telling (in a something deeper's going on here kind of way).

I never liked Joan of Arcadia, but I like this one, so something's different. I think Grace reminds me more of Jaye Tyler from Wonderfalls than she does Joan. She's kind of like a combination of Jaye, Faith, and a drunken relative.

In a future ep Grace and Earl have a wrestling match, and Grace kind of beats him.

Hm. Well you make an awesome argument there, if your goal is for me to watch the show, hehe. I never liked Joan of Arcadia either. But I love Jaye and Wonderfalls. And Faith of course. And I'd never compare the character of Grace to Joan, course, 'cause Joan is a more annoying and stupid version of Dawn. While Grace is sorta awesome. Mhm..

K, when I get home from the Tegan and Sara concert and uni of Thursday. I'll watch another episode or two of this show. Mhm.
 
I just like talking about this show, even though, other than you and Prydain from AfterDarkness (Randy Giles here), I'm pretty much talking to myself, so far.

But Oh...if you're going to watch another one, watch out for the hidden stuff. You know like on Buffy when stuff seemed to be coming too fast, and there was all these little background details, references, jokes, and such, that you knew were there but you didn't really have time to give them your full attention? It's worth going after those with your rewind button. They're fun, and every once in a while might be important.

I'm pretty sure all that Oklahoma City Bombing/Timothy McVeigh stuff matters.
