Saving the planet...?

I don't believe in wasting my time.
That's exactly how I feel. When people go on and on about saving the planet for future generations, I'm like, "Ha! I won't be here, so I don't care."

It's up to you what's a waste of your time. But I don't really understand the edge of derision in that last post. Why are you hanging out with these people if they go on and on about a topic that clearly bothers you?

The 2°C tipping point is false. The mediaeval era was also known as the little ice age because temperatures declined during the period from 1300 AD to 1850 AD. Even though there were no thermometers then, we know that the Vikings colonized Greenland and grew crops of rye. You can't do that now, it's too cold. But some experimental crops are being tried out there now and the return to temperatures from a millennium ago will accelerate that. The Sagas and Eddas of Iceland don't mention icebergs or ice floes because they were rare.

During the dinosaur era, the world was 5°C warmer and this translated into higher oxygen content due to greater metabolism and photosynthesis (around 30% oxygen) that allowed animal life to grow large.

We have La Nina and El Nino years due, not to man's activities, but to undersea volcanoes east of the Philippines. There are YouTube videos of this including one with sound. These volcanoes are 4400 feet below the surface where the pressure is 1900 psi. This prevents boiling of the water but the hot water transfers heat as it rises resulting in a 2°C rise in the surface temperature of the Pacific in the northern hemisphere when it is active. This is the El Nino temperature rise which translates into a greater rise in air temperature in North America since water has a higher thermal mass than air.

We are now in a more active volcanic and earthquake cycle caused by the movement of the magnetic poles. The north pole moves 24 miles / 40 km to the northwest each year. This shows that there is movement far below the earth bringing hot magma closer to the surface and the warming of the earth is caused by that.

Thanks! I knew some of that, but other parts were new, one of them answering a question on how animals grew so large that I'd been wondering for years
In what way are we not living it up that we could be?
Drinking from plastic straws? We need to continue to do so. That's one. Everytime you sip your Diet Cherry Coke from a nice, one-time use plastic straw it tastes just extra cherryish and the liquid goodness is even more refreshing knowing that you are putting a finger up to all those wankers that say we must use paper straws. Take that plastic straw into Starbucks and just watch the venom seep through those fragile peoples eyes as they are being forced to use paper ones.

You do know how to party, my friend.

Get back to me when you've been here a little longer. 😴

The world has been hotter, colder, wetter, drier but it did so due to nature, now it is doing it because of mankind.
And so many animals will cease to exist because of mankind, soon the world will cease to exist because of mankind.
The best thing is that according to the bible God created the world, so why do folk claim to love God and try to end the world?
How many presidents, prime ministers do not follow the Paris protocols?

I want to bear your child. 😍
I would point out that there are plenty of places on the planet that are unaffected by more than half of the natural disasters named here; no volcanoes or hurricanes or tsunami's ready to drown entire cities like some lame Roland Emerich movie.

Still, the existential question is an important one; if the universe is fundamentally cold, dispassionate and unfeeling (as opposed to being actively hostile, which I think is false; demonizing 'Mother Nature' is just about as stupid as deifying 'Her') then how do we cope with this world and the random, tragic acts that occur; do we thrown up our hands in resignation or do we strive to live as if this were a better world?
I mean, if the mother nature and the universe is uncaring and crappy then isn't it even more important that people aren't?

Too many big words here. *slap* 😜

That's why I volunteer, among other things. And it's why I see it as important. If I thought angels or God or some such would take care of the problems then I wouldn't bother because it's already taken care of. At most I'd pray and say "problem solved" (as a great many people do, like God wouldn't know about it unless they prayed, or God was their personal wish-granting genie).

I was confused why so many who volunteered believe in God or karma (as a sentient force of justice as defined by human sensibilities) takings care of people, because volunteering then essentially becomes a sign of lacking faith, or even defiance against the will of God/karma. I later realized it was mercenary (meant neutrally, no different than say nurses who help people because it's what pays the bills), that is they believe that by doing so they will earn a place in Heaven or a better life, or even immediate effects like three times the good they do reflected back at them.

Your understanding of god/spirit is very, very different to mine.
For me, in the withdrawal OCD, saving the planet obsession was related to self worth. I couldnt work so I felt I had no worth and wanted to do something so I didnt feel like a burden to the system of things. So glad im over that now.

I realised how much of this is just the latest money making con. The next step of big corporations passing their sins on to consumers. And making the rich believe the poor are just tight and nasty people cos they cant afford all the new and now required bits of for planet health. I did my own research instead of believing the masses and most of the waste is coming from counties with high levels of poverty. If these people had drinkable water, they wouldnt need to buy plastic bottles full of water. If they had fresh food and home gardens, if sharing was a real thing, they wouldnt have to rely on food aid which is the plastic covered food that the rich now reject for organic food wrapped in biodegradable cloth.

If the worlds best minds got together for a litter/air quality solution they would solve it in about 3 days. But that dosnt make money.

The human race is doomed by its own doing and i truly believe we are in end of days. When i say that, I mean - i dont believe humans will exist on earth by the year 3000. Its why the very rich are looking for other planetary solutions, spendng billions on space exploariton to save their souls vs using the billions to make life comfortable and liveable for all who currently exist. I dont know why they want to save to human race if they rekon we can evolve from fish anyway. Wont we re-evolve once were wiped out?

In my bogan uneducated opinion, the earth will always be here. The cycle continues, ice, heat, ice heat, we cant stop it but we could learn to live with it rather than fighting and blaming and throwing money into the abyss of space. We are so narrow minded in our view of what the earth can provide, constantly fighting for control and causing suffering to millions. Does it occur to anyone else that the suffering is just as toxic as pollution?

@HoppyHippy I wasn't sharing my understanding of god/spirit, but that of others (not you, not me, but other people who are much more common than either you or me), which I thought was clear and don't see how it was misunderstood. Still, for others who may also misunderstand, I'm clarifying.

Perhaps you believe there is only one way to see God or karma (and that the only 2 things people can do is believe in God in the same way you do or be an atheist), and that's just simply not true and should be obvious given the many denominations and all else.. And I'd say your views on God are unusual just as mine are.

Or maybe this is based on the other nonsense in which some people believe that if I don't gush praise on every single person who believes in God then I must hate every single person who believes (and even if I praise some then the praise will be forgotten to just remember where I was critical), which is just so absurd that I can't understand that way of thinking, but I encounter it quite a bit online, including BB.

ta for clarifying - cos yeah the way I understood the post was how the masses seem to see it, and not how it truly is, i was probably not reading correctly in the position I was sitting at in order to understand it as clearly as i could have. Thanks
Why wouldn't you want to look after your home? I know this is mostly sarcastic but it's the ultimate in either stupidity or psychosis to deliberately damage the thing that sustains our existence.

I reread your post @thrasherpix, apologies for my misunderstanding, you were clear - my brain was not 😛 nothing unusual about that haha. (I totally missed the god genie part - so spot on lol)
