Scan of EW's July 2011 Issue: TV's All Time Sexiest Couples

By Jane Espenon. By Meltzer. AND by Buffy.
I actually don't hold Angel responsible for what he did, because just like in the space sex, he didn't do it willingly or by awareness for the moment.

Do you have links to those comments? Or what issue Buffy says this in? I seem to have missed them.

What do the comics have to do with them being the sexiest couple on tv?

I don't know. I said there was almost no Bangel sex in general, VG mentioned the fact that they had sex in season 8 comic, I said it wasn't sex but rape, and so on. Here, I caught you up 😀 🙂

I'm too tired to look for actual links and quotes, but I did find moopop's post from earlier, saying this:

No, they didn't. Meltzer said the opposite. Espenson said the opposite, to quote: "Buffy is better than that." By writers, you mean editor Scott Allie and he compared it to being given drugs. Except Buffy never chose to take any drugs. It is, in essence, date rape. Yes, glowhypnoled Buffy chose to do it just like spelled Buffy chose to come on to Xander almost sleep with RJ.

And Buffy said it wasn't their fault to Spike in the #37 issue. She says the universe made them do that.

So she was aware of what was happening. It was just not under her control.

Jeeze, the creative team really need to get their story straight and decide what's what.

Here's the Allie quote (Emphasis is all Allie's):

The TV series ended with a strong feminist message about empowering women. In the DVD commentary for "Chosen", Whedon says "it was very important to me to say "˜Okay, it's great that you've worshipped this one iconic character : but find it in yourself.'" How do you see this extending to Season 8 ? Is Season 8 still telling a feminist story ?

SCOTT : Sierra made a comment to me, when someone wrote in to tell us that Angel had raped Buffy in #34. I think her point was basically that while we can argue about how predestination conflicts with free will, Buffy very clearly CHOSE to have sex with Angel, even if it was a bad choice. We can make bad choices, and people certainly do. But we make them. I've seen people say that Dollhouse is anti-feminist, because the characters are turned into prostitutes. If you make a film that involves racism, and you fail to explain clearly in the text that RACISM IS WRONG, it's not that you've promoted racism, or turned your back on equality ; it's just that you've failed to make a piece of propaganda. Buffy Season 7 left us with this wonderful female power in the world"”Season 8 turned that into an army, and that army has been far from perfect. I don't think that's a poke in the eye to feminism. I hope that Buffy's continued complex romantic decisions don't ruin her as an example of female empowerment. That thread about the Slayer army, the shared power, which began in Season 7, will continue to evolve in Season 9, and that extension will likely be viewed as more clearly supportive of feminism.

As for Buffy, she says the Universe set them up, which isn't the same thing at all. The Universe set Angel up but he still made the choice to become Twilight. Buffy had the power to say no. She didn't. She said yes.

LOL don't blame it on me! Well OK, I'm the one who mentioned it, but only in the context of sex/sexiness, and mainly because I figured someone else would bring it up if I left it off the list. It's not my favorite Bangel moment either. 🙂

They really do. They say opposite things. To be fair, Allie is known as a Spike and Spuffy hater. I don't know how objective he is...

Yes, he did choose it. But after he becomes Twilight, he has no control. Therefore, he had no control over what he's done there in space, just like he's done all the other stuff as Twilight. Buffy never said yes. I believe the universe is what made them do that, while controlling Buffy as well. Buffy said herself that it wasn't their fault, meaning they were not responsible for what they did. Meaning, they had no control, no willing power in this.

Oh, no blaming! There was no blaming! I was just saying how we got to where we got. 😀

I read Buffy saying it wasn't their fault as her saying they did not do it knowingly i.e. they had no idea what their sleeping together would do. But we've derailed this thread long enough! lol :)
It's funny because this exact same discussion is happening in a season 9 thread right at this very moment.

LOL!!

Kean agrees: I read Buffy saying it wasn't their fault as her saying they did not do it knowingly i.e. they had no idea what their sleeping together would do. But we've derailed this thread long enough! lol

I read it differently. See how beautiful and evil Joss is? He gets into our heads and makes us think different things. Now THAT's pure evil! :elder:

WOW...It's awsome that they are getting recognition like this. Although....even though I adore Bangel...I wouldn't necessarily classify them as sexy. I mean, there are certain parts that are definately so, but I think of all the relationships on the show, Spuffy would be classfied as most sexy IMO

That was my thought for a second I thought it was best couples. I think they had one scene that was kind of sexy the bite scene but it can be viewed differently. I am honestly sitting her thinking of what couples are sexiest. Tough one in general.

Better than Bella and Edgar, or whoever those frauds are.

Its good to see BtVS recognized for the amazing show it is (even if they picked the wrong ship 😉 )

Actually spit out my grape soda, kudos.

In other news. Ahppysdukwpjahalnsjwjalahwkdb best article ever! Okay, happy squelch of incredulous letters complete 😀

Yeah, they had a really cute little teenaged fling. Then Buffy, at least, grew up and moved on.

"I killed Angel. Do you even remember that? I loved him more than I will ever love anything in this life and I put a sword through his heart because I had to."

"Angel, sometimes I do think that far ahead."
"Sometimes is something."
"It would be years, if ever."
"I ain't gettin any older."

Buffy and Angel are a lot of things, but finished is not one of them.

The list is a tough one I think that
Veronica/Logan
Meredith/Derek
Tim/Lyla
Vaughn/Sidney although I think they should win without even watching them because they are sexy just from looking at them and their profession 😛

Who do you think is going to win? I am going to call Stefan/Elena since they are so present and have so many fans.

I had seen this in my new issue of EW and I thought it was kind of cool to have a Buffy couple up top 🙂. However, I do love Bangel and I think they were definitely one of the most epic couples on television and all, but I don't really see them as a sexy couple. "Hides from the bangels"
