When I was a kid I was scared of IT, haven't seen it since and I'm not planning to either. More recently I found Perfume thoroughly unsettling, I don't like people who are good at sneaking up on others... :S

The Exorcism of Emily Rose that one didn't scare me much but I was in a packed theater and everyone was jumping and stuff.

Scariest movie ever? Tough one since I watch a lot but I would have to say Se7en. It is a favorite but I don't watch it much lol I think movies that resemble real life are ten times scarier than horror movies. Like when you see a movie and then see something on Dateline that is scary. I guess the scary thing about movies is when you watch it and think is someone going to copy this? Does anyone else think like that. Maybe I have seen scream to many times.

Now if I did choose a horror film it would be IT. I had to sleep with my mom for a while after that one and the bathtub oh gosh I kept looking at the drain.

I've never been freaked out by a horror movie. I love them, I've just never seen one that actually got to me. As a kid though, one movie scared the piss out of me (not literally, no) and that was Gremlins. I remember being terrified of that movie but eventually forgetting about it. Then a few years later I got a Furby. HA! That didn't go very well.

I watched IT when I was younger too and it scared me so much. I now have such a clown phobia its not even funny 🙂 I did buy the DVD a few years ago to see if I could finally watch it all or if by watching it when I was older would scare me less, and even though the ending is not very scary, the clown bits get me every time!!

I am a wuss when it comes to scary films and get frightened very easily. The latest film to scare me so much that I had to sleep with my light on, was Paranormal Activity. I was fine when I was at the pictures watching it but after it really started to freak me out!!

A real dozen dollar movie with absolutely laughable acting, script, directing, and "monsters." called "The Attack Of The Killer Shrews," about a biological experiment gone wrong on this small island, causing a bunch of shrews to grow to the size of dogs, then start eating everything, until,ultimately, there's just them and the scientists left alive on the island. As I said, it was a truly pitiful movie, but what scared me about it was that it was the first time that I had ever seen anyone literally eaten alive in a movie. Those people's screams haunted me for days.

cant beat the old classics like halloween 1+2, the exorcist, nightmare on elm street (even if its abit funny 😀), texas chainsaw massacre, ted bundy film, candyman, and if ur scared of sharks..jaws lol blugh.
i think what makes a film the 'scariest' is if its based on a true story :s

For me, the scariest movie ever made is "The Exorcist." I remember seeing that movie when I was 13, and it scared the beejesus out of me. I can watch it now just fine and it is one of top 5 favorite films, but it took me three years to work up the courage to watch it again after that first time. Other movies that scare the crap out of me are "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" (1974), "Halloween" (1978), and "The Town That Dreaded Sundown." "Town That Dreaded Sundown" is a not very well known 1976 horror film that is often really corny in places, but the scenes with the Phantom Killer are unnerving and really scary. Plus it's based on a true story which adds to the creepy factor. I seriously had to remind myself that it's just a movie and isn't real so i could sleep that night. 🙂

Perhaps the most disappointing thing with "scary" movies to me, is that most of them, at least the ones made today, have to do with supernatural creatures/events, and that just usually isn't where it's at for me. Sure, there are moments of the 'creepy' factor in certain movies with supernatural elements ("The Ring," "Paranormal Activity," "Exorcism of Emily Rose") but that's about it. Just a bit of the creep factor, rather than the actual scare these movies are meant to provoke.

The movies I find scary are things that could logically happen in day to day life, just out of the blue. The original "Halloween," the original "Black Christmas," heck, even the movie "Otis," it's logical, and entirely too real, for a seriously deranged, genuinely sick person to just show up out of the blue and kidnap, torture, and/or stab you to death. The idea of that skeeves me out more than any 'girl gets tossed into the wall by some invisible force that is haunting this and ONLY this house! OH NO! Clearly, the smartest and most logical thing here is to stay in said house until half of the family is dead. Oh, and scream lots. Musn't forget the screaming,' type of plot.
