Offhand, she's a good actress, and it will get more views than an unknown lead. Acting skill and fame is more important to identity. If I wanted someone trans involved, then I'd be more interested in putting it in the writing rather than the acting roles (though I'll now state the obvious to me that 5 different trans would write 5 different stories, and describe the trans characters in 5 different ways from one another).
That aside...I think so many molehills have been turned into mountains, and sometimes they just pull things to complain about out of their ass just for a quick self-righteous thrill while doing nothing of import beyond banging on their keyboard (and it's especially funny when the group they claim to speak on behalf of refutes them, with the example off the top of my head,
Speedy Gonzales ) that I can't be bothered to see if they have a criticism that I'd agree with this time.
Though to be fair, it's probably not that many raising a fuss, but rather reporters chumming the net by focusing on a handful of malcontents trying to make them seem more popular than they are (and with luck, the coverage will make them so, people will want to see what the fuss is about and probably get angry to share the stories with others and on social media, and hello clickbait and thus higher pay for selling ad space!). Whatever position the press tends to cover, they usually go for the most extreme and controversial in order to make it a soap opera of sorts, which is unfortunate as it takes away attention and clout from those who are much more reasonable, but from the press's point of view, the more drama the better. And that will continue to be the case as long as it's more profitable than ethical reporting.
