I seriously was gonna post this and you beat me to it!!! :)
Johansson says today
In light of recent ethical questions raised surrounding my casting as Dante Tex Gill, I have decided to respectfully withdraw my participation in the project. Our cultural understanding of transgender people continues to advance, and I’ve learned a lot from the community since making my first statement about my casting and realize it was insensitive. I have great admiration and love for the trans community and am grateful that the conversation regarding inclusivity in Hollywood continues … While I would have loved the opportunity to bring Dante’s story and transition to life, I understand why many feel he should be portrayed by a transgender person, and I am thankful that this casting debate, albeit controversial, has sparked a larger conversation about diversity and representation in film.

She goes on to say:
According to GLAAD, LGBTQ+ characters dropped 40% in 2017 from the previous year, with no representation of trans characters in any major studio release. I believe that all artists should be considered equally and fairly.
And that is exactly what people were complaining to her about when she first dismissed them and told them to tell someone else. If she would have stopped and listened then a large part of the 'controversy' would have never had happened.

Disappointed.
Every time I hear of people supporting this crap I think back to the old days where male actors would play all roles on stage including female roles, because obviously women couldn't act. It's beyond ridiculous that they can't get trans actors for the roles. And if you're gonna cast a trans man role and you won't actually cast a trans actor, then you'd be better off casting a cis male than a cis female. Like dam, look at that picture, that doesn't look anything like a cis female, which is what Scarlet Johansson looks like.

If we're going by the performance in Sense8, Scarjo is a better option. Watching Jamie Clayton act is incredibly weird. Its like watching a gay man with pretty hair acting and behaving like (they?) think a woman should act (over dramatic and emotional). Including orgasms and squealing. Yeah, nah. Go ScarJo (I love that name haha took me a while to click on the thread cos I didnt recognise the name). I probably won't be watching the movie regardless, but if acting is truly based on talent rather than sex - Im pleased they didn't give Jamie Clayton a look in. She'll get plenty of netflix work.

Has anyone here seen Boys Dont Cry? Is HIllary Swank gona cop it too? Its not a movie I could handle seeing again, but still extremely powerful.

Jamie Clayton IS a woman though. Maybe her acting is not the best but then blame her acting chops. Also who's to say how a woman should or should no act. If you don't like the way her character acts than blame the writers and the producers, they're the ones writing the script and directing this actress.
